Migraines everyday, all day, for 9 months. Help!!

Remember your worst migraine. How much pain you were in and how you just couldn't do anything. That's how I am everyday.

Right so I'm a 20 year old female, I'm and student and work as a waitress part time.

So, I started with a headache on the 18th January this year, pain killers didn't touch it. Woke up the next day and still had a terrible headache.

I have a terrible headache all day, everyday, without fail. It's got to the point now that I'm stressed; fed up, hardly sleeping, can't concentrate at uni or any time really.

Please understand that the pain never goes, the headache never ends. I have literally had a migraine 24/7 for 9 months now.

I wear glasses (short sighted) but I know it's not my eyes causing the migraines.

I've cut out everything that's apparently supposed to aggravate headaches. Stop drinking caffeine, stop eating chocolate and cheese. No change in the headaches.

This continued for a week or two before I went to see my GP who referred me to a neurologist.

The first neurologist thought I had tension headaches caused by stress.

At this point, I wasn't stressed at all, not with uni or work, nothing. So I didn't quite understand this diagnosis.

Anyway he put me onto tablets called amitriptyline, which is an antidepressant, and told me to gradually increase my dosage up to 50mg a day. This didn't help at all, had horrible side affects.

I then saw another neurologist who diagnosed me with migraines, put me into Topamax, which are an anti epileptic drug meant to also treat migraines. I got my dose up to 100mg within 3 months and the side affects were horrible and didn't help at all.

I've had a CT scan, which was normal. Had an MRI scan, which was normal. I've also tried Imigran and some migraine medication that melts into your tongue, with no affect what so ever.

After trying all this, an idea was put forward that I could have raised intracranial hypertension, so yesterday I had a Lumbar Puncture. The pressure was at 19 and a half (apparently if its over 20 it's high), so it's not thought its that. The migraines were worse for a week after the lumbar puncture, I couldn't even sit up without being in agony and being sick. Spent a week in bed unable to move.

I've got another type of MRI scan booked for the end of this month that's apparently going to look at the veins/blood vessels in my head to see if there is a problem there.

I feel like I'm not being taken seriously now by doctors, because "there isn't anything to be worried about, like a tumour" as I'm always told! As much as I'm so very glad I don't have anything serious to be worried about, I hate spending everyday in so much pain that I can't function.

Please don't think I'm over reacting/attention seeking/whatever, but I am literally fed up and can't cope. I can't get a minute of relief, I'm constantly in pain (different variations of pain, but pain all the same). As I'm writing this I'm crying my eyes out because I haven't managed to sleep more than 3 hours a night in that past 4 days. I'm exhausted and depressed now. I've even told my GP that I am so depressed now, I have thought on more than one occasion of overdosing just to end this pain. And he literally turned me away saying he couldn't do anything. I feel so defeated.

If anyone has had this type of problem before or knows someone that has, please let me know.

      Hi.

Sorry things are so bad, especially with your big day on Tue.

So, what have you tried so far to get better?  There are many things that you could try, but if you let me know what you have already tried, I wont repeat the suggestion.

      Best wishes and take care

Have had very similar situation for a year and a half.  They are dulled by carbamazepine and gabapentin but I still have bad days.  Even had a ganglion nerve block procedure.  My doctors think it was triggered by meningitis I had 3 years ago.  Did they ever find a solution?  I also have a sensitive spot at the tip of my nose.  They even did a complete nasal reconstruction!

Please have your hormones checked. I had a migraine for 27 days and my doctor gave me progesterone. 5 days later my migraine was gone. I tried everything before this- all kinds of pain mess, acupuncture, ENT, etc. hormones play a huge role in our systems no matter your age. They also just put me on estrogen and migraine came back after a couple months so they are taking me off it. Progesterone was like a miracle for me. Hope you all get relief. It is so dibilitating and depressing. Praying for you all!

hello, i realize this was posted four years ago, but i'm hoping you still somehow receive this post, and that they ave found the cause and the solution to your migraine and they hell you must have been living in.  It's a hell I am familiar with unfortunately.  I am not however, they victim of the horrible migraine, but as the wife of the victim I live the hell with him helpless and powerless to help, feeling like even getting near him will aid his agony. My husband is a proud man and is not a whiner and has a high pain tolerance, in all our years together I don't think I've heard him complain once even when his gout flairs up, but this 4 month and counting migraine has him crying and sometimes even screaming. I'm so frustrated because we've seen so many specialists and all they ever say is yep you've got migraines, duh thanks how do we get rid of it? what is causing it? your a specialist for god's sake! they gave us generic responses information that is readily available online about food triggers and ways to relieve tension i mean why are we paying them again? i'm sorry i'm just frustrated Last night I heard him asking God what he had done that was so terrible My husband is a good man to hear him thinking like this scares me he then screamed out as another sharp pain pierced his head and then crying, asked God if he wasnt going to help him then please just let him die, I know four months is a long way from nine months but i seriously don't think he can take much more so I saw your post wen trying to find answers for him and was hoping and praying that it being four years later maybe you found some answers and possible solution please if you have any suggestions or even possible paths to finding suggestions i would be so grateful i feel so helpless and want to help him so much

I'm 19 months into this migraine nightmare. Your husband should get the usual tests- CT scan, full neck MRI. If you have seen specialists this has probably already been done. Now, 80 % of the solution is up to the patient. Try every treatment you can find, even the wacko ones, and DOCUMENT what happens. I do physio, neck exercises( every morning ), spine exercises, hard workouts at the gym twice a week, walks or bike rides outside as often as possible. I have a small neck buzzer/massager that is priceless for quick temporary relief. Current meds are very small dose gabapentin , nabilone or medical marijuana, just starting some flunazarine. My list of foods and drink to avoid keeps growing,  I cut out gluten, dairy, chocolate, alcohol, limit caffeine, and a number of others. After about 16 months doing all this stuff, my migraines dropped from 25 days per month to 8 - 10 days, and severity has lessened.

I have tried accupuncture, peppermint oil, hands in ice water with feet in hot water. garlic in one ear, nasal rinses, No relief. The 2 meds I tried for migraine attacks were zolmitriptan and cambia, of which only the cambia provided about 50% relief after 2 hours. Other meds for prevention were ineffective : Amytriptylene, nortriptylene, propranolol.

Don't take my results as an indicator of what could work for someone else. BUT, I encourage your husband to try as many remedies as possible, even the ones that did not work for me. Everyone is different in response to certain remedies, and my trial and error approach is getting some results.....Jim.

Hi, my name is Sarah and I’m tryimg to tell as many people as I can about a real cure I’ve found, I am 40 years old and had dibilitating migraines/headaches since I was 16, nothing touched them and I went through the same misery, no sleep and constant pain, I felt like my life was over, then one day I met a fellow migraine sufferers who said I know a cure, This is what he told me:

      Take 3 aspirin (3x300mg)

      2 ibuprofen (2x200mg)

      Drink a strong coffee

Then hold an ice cube in your mouth against the roof of your mouth

Run your wrists under ice cold water for 5 minutes

Drink a pint of ice cold water.

I was initially scared to try it but thought well it can’t be worse than years of pain and misery.

I did it all and within 20 mins my migraine was gone. Now if I get a migraine I just do the above steps and migraines are no longer a problem for me. It has seriously changed my life from misery to relief.

The only thing I would say is be careful with aspirin if you are on blood thinners or have stomach problems and be careful with ibuprofen if you are asthmatic. I am personally asthmatic and get a little chesty on Ibuprofen but take my inhaler and it far outweighs days in bed crying.

I’ve told this remedy to everyone I meet who has headaches or migraines and everyone who’s tried it says it’s amazing and works. Of course I can’t promise it’s right for you but figure I want to help as many people as I can as I’d tried everything before this and nothing else ever helped.

I do recommend though to still get checked out and find the cause of the headaches.

I wish you the best of luck and hope it helps.

My daughter is 14 and I took her to the chiropractor she suffered from daily constant headaches that never went away. She had an issue with her C2 in her neck. She still gets a headache every few days but nothing like she had. She isnt on migrane medication anymore she is now taking naproxen as needed.

      Hi Jemma,

The problem is migraines are so diverse and confusing even for the experts, so imagine how it is for us.

Even your drs cant explain why you cant sleep more than 3 hours a night without tablets, its all wrapped up in your neurological issues.  I get a varient of migraine that causes me to become disabled and I have to be hospitalied.  I also ask the neurologist WHY and they just dont know.  I am also unlucky enough to have cluster headaches as well.

Unfortunately you need to stay on the tablets that help you sleep because if you dont sleep much, it will make your issues worse as you know.

Sorry not much help but even the experts dont know.

Best wishes for 2018. Take care
