mild cold before surgery

Hi all,
Do you think you could still have surgery if you had a mild cold..I'm about to have a hysteroscopic mymectomy this fibroid and been told I will have a general anaestetic.
I don't have a cold as yet but I feel like I'm about to have one..my chest feels tight and my voice is a bit funny...I'm frantically drinking orange juice at the moment.
I've read that you could have my operation under local or regional anaestetic...If I did have a mild cold would the surgeon;s do that or will my operation be cancelled..I don't think I could wait any longer I've been sooooo depressed and stressed in the last 5 months.. besides I've already had 6 zoladex injections..I know I can't have anymore..
Any advice or help would be much appreciated

That's good - use the First Defence and you definitely WON'T get a cold. It's a funny feeling when you use it though - it sometimes makes me sneeze and feel a bit coldy but that feeling doesn't last for long.
Tezi, when you see you GP, tell him how anxious you are (I'm sure you'll be doing that anyway  ) and he may feel it is a good idea just to give you something to make you feel less anxious.
Good luck and let me know how you get on.

That's great news - you're almost there now and it will soon all be over and done with.
Don't worry about your funny throat - keep gargling with salty water. The anaesthetist would only be concerned if you had a really nasty, chesty cold - and you haven't got that and you aren't going to either.
Brilliant - I'm so pleased you are back on track - all will be fine now.
Tezi, when you type your postings I think you click on the submit key too many times and your postings are duplicated twice or more just click the once - sometimes it's a bit slow to react. That's why it looks as if the moderators are removing your posts - it's only 'cos there are often more than one of them
Take care, and try and get a good night's sleep.

Operations are scary for everyone at the best of times but the first time is the scariest.
Nothing is going to go wrong and hey even if it did you wont know anything about it lol because you will be asleep
I remember just before one operation I had the nurse said jokingly that I was the person having my head removed - I misheard her and thought she said hand! As it was my arm and hand being operated on I panicked for ermmm 2 seconds before waking up and it all done with!
My daughter had an operation aged 5 and had a reaction to the stuff they use so they just brought her back round minus the operation - she had the operation 2 weeks later and no problems.
What you need to do now is concentrate on how much better you will be AFTER the operation and stop worrying about the actual operation. Let the professionals worry about that side of things and hey! Do they really want a family suing them for misconduct.
STOP worrying and START thinking about how much better you are going to be after the operation.
I know when they operated on me because of the fibroids all I could think about was finally I would be getting shut of them and all the pain and distress they had caused me for years. Of course i had a few worries about the operation and recovery but that is normal.

I'm sure by the time you receive this your nostril will probably have unblocked itself. Don't forget Tezi, an operation would only be cancelled if you had a really nasty chesty cold and was bringing up all sort of horrible gunk from your lungs. I'm sure most of your symptoms are caused by your anxiety. You can use your First Defence today but don't use it tomorrow. Also (something that I had never heard before) when my daughter had her op. she was told she musn't even chew any chewing gum once she was nil by mouth - just in case you were planning to have some. Usually, before an op patients are told to have the last food or fluid before midnight - you will be fine not having anything to eat or drink at 4am.
As Melbi says, it's perfectly natural to feel frightened at the thought of having an anesthetic - but once you've had one, you will realise that there is absolutely nothing to worry about. Just think, this time tomorrow it will all be over. You will be in the hands of highly-trained people and they are not going to let anything happen to you. As Melbi says, they have their reputation to think of as well.
When I had my fribroids removed I couldn't believe the diffence it made to my life. Wearing light coloured clothes without worrying (again as Melibi says ) plus not having to remember to take loads of pads and tampons with me - just in case. I felt so much better in myself - much more confident - and this is how you will very soon feel too, Tezi.
So be brave - you will be absolutely fine, I promise.

I had several quite large fibroids and as I was 40 and had completed my family I requested a hysterectomy from the start. (I actually ended up being taken in as an emergency because I had left it so late and was bleeding heavily - typical nurse!!)
This was fifteen years ago - and since then there are quite a few other options you can consider, depending really on the size of your fibroids and your age. Several of my friends have had myomectomies with good results.
I have never regretted having my hysterectomy and am certainly not one of those women who feel they have lost their femininity - I was very glad to get rid of my bit and pieces. I did opt to keep my ovaries (providing they were healthy) as I didn't really want to be plunged into an early menopause.
Good luck with whatever you decide to have.

Yes, I do hope that Tezi has got on okay today. When I initially saw the posting I thought, OMG it's Tezi to say the op has been cancelled!!!

I made it! I had a few complications like I lost a pint of blood and too much fluid was absorbed in my blood..Which is why I ended up staying the night at the hospital. But the operation went well..The anaestetist was really nice and reassured me everything will be ok. Thank you guys for being there for me..
I did go to see a bowel specialist as well last week..He examined me and said it's likely to be internal piles or IBS. But just wants to make sure so he wants to do a colonoscopy..Previously I did a stool blood test over 3 days and I came out negative..I'm not sure If I should have this procedures because of the risks involved...i.e perforation of the bowel..which is dangerous..The specialist said it's not bowel cancer but he just want's to rule everything ok but there's no urgency to do the colonoscopy yet but in a 2 months time.
