mild gastritis -- WHY BIOPSY?

I had a scope done yesterday. Doctor said mild gastritis and reflux esophagitis. They took two biopsies and they said that's to see if there's infection. This scares me. She said the doctor would have seen if it was something bad like the C word. He said my stomach and esophagus was just red. I guess the word biopsy scares me.

Anyone had this happen?

    long term use of antacids destroy the good bacteria in your gut and mask other conditions that can develop, i was taken of mine and within 6 monthes the reflux started, not a little bit creep up on you but a full on red hot poker like sensation from throat to stomach

    I'm having the same exact problem. Same exact results for blood tests and endoscopy like you. 

    Can you please tell me if the problem went away with meds? Can you check your private messages?
