Mirtazapine withdrawal horrendous

Hi! I have been off and on Mirtazapine several times over the past 14 years. I have also taken Gabapentin (off 2 years), Zoplicone (off 2 years), and Seroquel (off 11 months). I have now been off the Mirtazapine for 4.5 months and the w/d symptoms have been horrific (chronic insomnia, burning, tingling, numbness, vibrations throughout body and head, adrenaline surges, depersonalization/derealisation, myoclonic jerks, burning brain, feeling like I'm either going 2 drop dead or go insane at any moment and the list goes on. I have had a few windows the past couple of weeks, but it very soon goes back to being extremely debilitating, painful, terrifying and horrendous). I am feeling extremely weak, exhausted and hopeless.
Has anyone else suffered so horrendously getting off this poison and if so what did you do to manage your symptoms so they were at least tolerable? As I am extremely paradoxical to almost all psych meds and a ton of other pharmaceuticals, going back on any drugs is out of the question. I don't want to have to live through another w/d like this for as long as I live which may not be much longer if I soon don't start getting some regular sleep. At best now I might get 2 hours per week. Please answer as I am desperately in need of some advice and support as I am getting weaker by the day. Thank you.

I have been on Mirtazapine 30mg for almost six months, and decided to come off it six weeks ago. I cut down to 26.25 mg by cutting tablets, quite difficult to do. A few days I started feeling anxious which I put down to withdrawal symptoms. This morning I woke up feeling fine normal! Fell asleep again and woke up from a deep sleep and felt terrible panicky, and anxious all day. I know how you feel and I can only hope I will feel normal one day.

hi, I know what your going through and can empathize , I'm the same. its 3.5 months since stopped mirtazapine tapered over month. I've been taken it for 6 years. along with headaches, nausea the worst is the 4am paresthesia pain when wake up its hell. we need to persevere. I read & my doctor said it will eventually go. I'm hoping there will be someone out there who has come out the other side. I'm living in hope. I know going back to mirtazapine will end it but I'm determined not to. never taking any SSRIs again. I do take zopiclone occasionally to help with sleeping.

Ive made the decision to make appointment with a doctor and go back to mirtazapine. it's been 2 weeks so far back on this and I feel so much better. No moreparesthesi, nausea & niggling headaches. I was advised by the this doctor that a month was not long enough to taper off mirtazapine for the length of time I've been on this.I'll consider tapering off in about 6 months but this time over longer time of 4 months. I think with mirtazapine probably best to do this the longer the better. Also I find I'm sleeping a lot better now 🙂

A bit of positive news for people wanting to quit. I was on 30mg for 3 years and tapered to 7.5mg in 5 weeks with not many withdrawals so far, i feel a bit lazy and have had some head zaps and 10 min headaches that come and go but nothing dramatic yet. I'm coming off them because they have caused me joint issues for the past 8 months so i'm prepared for withdrawals now with all the information here i appreciate everyone sharing experiences . I'm on 7.5mg now, ill stay on till monday then ill go every other day for 2 weeks then every other 2 days till i come off. I am hoping my joint pain goes away while im still on them so i can quit at a more suitable time but i'm in an impossible situation.. has anyone had any joint problems as my doctor was convinced its the mirt. My knee feels like my bones are rubbing together and my elbows wont straighten. Both sides so its very strange if mirt is to blame.
