Mirtazapine withdrawal, how long does it last?

Hi, Just looking for some reassurance/support. I was on mirtazapine for about 6months. I went up to 45mg and decided to taper down as I felt they were making me worse and the weight gain was nasty. I felt fab tapering down and generally, its been better than I anticipated however, I'm approaching the 3rd week off of mirtazapine and have started to feel a bit anxious the last few days. I've read withdrawal peaks around the 3/4week mark, so I'm trying to stay positive that it will pass.

This is a reply to everyone on here going through this, I'm 22 and i am also going though this all. I am experiencing hell, feels like im going mentally crazy, hot and cold flushes with sweating constantly, depersonalization, nightmares, crying spells ect. I cut my dosage down and they were the side effects, I'm back down to 45mg and I'm cutting down again in a week or two, but I'm replying to tell you guys that you can do this, you know what's coming now so you have to mentally ready yourself for what the future holds, keep strong and know that when it comes you can beat this nasty effing drug. We can all beat this, I hope that everyone who ever reads this gets a bit of motivation, these side effects are just a mental battle that we can all beat, you just need to find something to clear your mind or talk to friend like I do, read the bible, that's my armor in this battle. I really pray for everyone single one of you that you can get through this, at the end you're are going to be a stronger person, mentally. God bless to all of you and I hope you can all can get of this killer (not literally) of a drug! We can do this. Prayers are with you all.

Some people are lucky with Mirtazapine withdrawal. It’s extremely variable how it hits people.
You may be okay. My only caution would be that the withdrawal can sometimes hit further down the line than you think.
I’d been on 45mg for may years and, yes, I had some withdrawal symptoms but I got off lightly when compared to some of the horror stories I’ve read.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed it all goes well for you.

Im a health professional. A patient weaned down from Mirtazapine 30mg over 4 months. All was well till stopping then the crippling insomnia started. The appetite decreased +++. Then followed a trial of Phenergan 25-50mg at night. This helped the sleep but the hangover the next day wasn’t tolerable. Then went back on 15mg Mirtazapine at night. Slept returned but so did the appetite. A second trial of Mirtazapine was tried. It was weaned off quite quickly and the same insomnia appeared. Then a trial of bedtime Traxadone was initiated. Doses between 50-100mg were tried. After a bit of dose tweaking the 50mg suited the patient. Sleep returned without the appetite. Patient was happy. Some next day sedation occurred but bringing the dose forward to the evening meal helped.
Trazadone is weight neutral. No drug is without side effects buts this is the best solution I’ve seen. I’ve posted this to help those who are/have stopped Mirtazapine.

Yes, if you’re one of the unlucky ones that get withdrawal, you will get it regardless if you CT or taper.
I have been reading about mirtazapine for 3 years, thousands of stories. Many that have experienced CT by following their inept provider’s ill-informed advice, reinstated and did a slow taper, then discontinued.
So they had both experiences under their belt.
They said the w/d from CT was far and away much more severe than the taper discontinuance w/d, no question.
I am also one of those people but still in the midst of tapering.
