I finished my 3 ML treatments about four months ago. I still am experiencing vaginal dryness but not vaginal burning. Now I've developed urethral burning which comes and goes. I've used estrace on this area and sometimes it helps. I do use Aquafor as well which helps a bit too. It just never really feels normal. I'm now trying a change in my diet, particularly cutting down or out wine to see if possibly that helps. I also started taking two supplements. Mycozil for fungal and yeast balance and Latero-Flora which is a probiotic.  I've done so much reading online about this problem and didn't realize it affected so many women! If anyone can used something that really has worked for the urethra burning please share!!!

I put coconut on urethra and up vagina.  My burning is worst since she did the fourth treatment.  I wish I never had this done.

Sugar in wine n tannins are just not a good thing. Have to try everything as this condition is life changing.

I saw this comment about wine and tannins earlier on these forums and would be interested to know why they are considered a no no and are associated with dryness I have no idea?

Have read wine increases chances of breast cancer by 10%.   I attended a place in San Diego called optimum health and their teachings agree.  Nothing about dryness but for me made no difference on atrophy

Hello many thanks for the reply, is it just wine that increases the risk or all types of alcohol, I know that it is stated in the media now, that there simply are no safe drinking limits. I think everything in moderation is the best option any way.

I feel really concerned about your comments stating that the burning is worse after your 4th treatment, has it improved any since you wrote this was it just a temporary hitch, I had my first ML last week, and I know people say no improvement until after the 2nd treatment but to think that someone is actually feeling worse must be a nightmare, I do hope it has improved please advise?

Not meaning to sound stupid but how do you distinguish between urethra burning or vaginal burning? Also does anyone know if it is ok to use vagifem a few days after a first ML treatment I had no aftercare advice, and felt so stressed I just wanted to get out of the clinic and didn't ask any questions?

Hi Kathryn saw specialist last week.  He told me I had contact dermatitis.  He said I should have never had the mlt.  Because the burning was from my urethra not vagina.  He gets a lot of patients in his office who have had problems after mlt.  I believe what I have is based on what she did.  After the fourth I had urethritis for the second time was on antibiotics and two weekx later burning really bad over a month.  Coincidence I do t think so.  I am doing what this doc says and had good days.  Seeing a doc next about getting natural estrogen treatments since I can't take hrt,

Hi, I suppose if a patient has been diagnosed with VA by a GYN they are a suitable candidate for the ML treatment then , is the contact dermatitis due to low oestrogen levels then, not sure, hope you make good progress with your natural alternatives, I am always looking for natural remedies but when the burning returns with a vengeance I opt for HRT immediately.

Hope you don't mind me asking this but was your female Gynaecologist based in London and you have had to resort to seeing another specialist as you state you should not have had the treatment in the first place as it was the urethra?

I had my First Mona Lisa treatment yesterday , as advertised a non invasive procedure, so surprised that there only seems clinics in London in the U.K. that perform this procedure, unless someone can advise me different, a very quick procedure the 2nd part of the procedure more painful than the first part but totally ok I walked the 1.7 miles back to the train station afterwards to take my mind off things took a 2 he train journey with a couple of pain killers got home and applied cold yoghurt slept ok the next day hardly knew the procedure had been carried out, one negative the Gynaecologist said even after the treatment some women still take vagifem, I had this done to stop taking HRT at all but still feeling positive it's early days and hopefully things can only get better that old cliche

Hope you have good results. I did and don't use HRT.   It's been almost 2 years and for me stopped constant UTIs

    • Posted

Thank you for the reply that's really encouraging to know your UTIs stopped after the ML treatment and didn't need to continue taking HRT what a result .

I know that the ML treatment is supposedly a revolutionary procedure regarding VA UTIs etc and I do understand the theory behind the procedure, revitalising the area, however I don't understand how it can have any effect on the lack of oestrogen surely this issue still remains a problem ?

Hi. The lack of estrogen wasn't an issue after Mona Lisa as tissue was in essence healed for me.  Had another treatment 10 months later as I started feelings my irritability.  Took care of it for me

Hi everyone.  I was one of the first to report on the Mona Lisa procedure along with Nancyo. I will say that what works for a person is very individualized. There is no one thing that works for everyone and therefore it takes a lot of patience and experimenting. I can honestly say that it took me about two years to come up with what works for me and now I have been feeling normal for quite some time. I had 5 Mona Lisa treatments ( yes, I finally got results after 5 of them) I also use Vagifen 2x a week which is a big improvement from 5x a week !!  I use a topical compounded oil of estriol and olive oil on the external tissues. I use a moisturizer there also, as needed. It seems like a lot but you get in a routine. All I care about is that I feel normal. I am anticipating a ML- repeat in the Spring.

Hi just a couple of questions , were you using HRT before the ML treatment or have you never found it necessary to use HRT , I know that the ML rejuvenates and heals the tissues builds collagen etc but presumably the oestrogen levels remain the same after the treatment as I haven't heard anyone say anything contra to this, not sure such a diverse topic, thanks.

No, did not use HRT ( systemic) but did use Vagifem. Just needed so much Vagifem and really did not help anymore by itself.

As far as contact dermatitis, my Gyn suggested that first . I think that is what they always suggest first. I eliminated all sorts of soaps, even shampoo and found the culprit to be fabric softeners and dryer sheets as well as Tide. Now use unscented in all brands. That helped a LITTLE!  . As the tissues thin and dry with menopause, they are more sensitive. The estriol compounded in olive oil was the cure for that and now when I visit my grandkids and use their detergents, I have no problems.

I used Premarin  it helped a little but not with uti's then caused yeast infections. All I know is for me it worked

I am now doing that but that doc should have never do mlt.  I have to use aquafor before peeing. Then coconut oil.  No pads special soap. Special detergent.  Estradiol cream at bed time.  No underwear. Seeing doc next week for natural estrogen.

I had one Gyn tell me the Mona Lisa was a money-making hoax!!  He was an uninformed SOB. I am living proof it works. Needless to say I will never go back to him. Did you inquire as to the reason he said never to get the ML? I sure would have.

I agree Jean.  Many doctors have no idea how women suffer and are not informed on the MLT.  I found it myself on line and then took all the info to the urologist/gyn... she was familiar with it and thought highly but had never suggested it.  We all have to take care of our own health.  doctors are not informed on all new treatments.   Estrogen did not work for me..... My take and only my opinion is that it is a mechanical breakdown of tissue, and estrogen does not fix it

Agree !  When I went for my first treatment the Dr. asked how I found out about it and how I found she did it. I said it was a desperate internet search. She said that is how everyone was responding and her practice has grown by 300% since she started doing them. She actually trained another Dr. to do it and take some of the pressure off of her !

when I first started researching Mona Lisa did not exist.  This website was the first time I knew other women were suffering.. It helped me to not feel alone and crazy.... doctors I saw had no idea, took two years before I heard the words vaginal atrophy.... so to all the women out there, don't give up, keep researching and trying methods outside the medical field, as they don't have much info on this condition except to say lack of estrogen... Many women I know have lack of estrogen that don't suffer from this, and topicals did not work for me

Are you in the UK I have just visited a Gyn in the U.K. and had the ML carried out first time after a very quick consultation, I am concerned as not enough questions were asked about my problem although VA had been diagnosed by a previous Gyn I'm concerned that yours was carried out and shouldn't have been and comments on these forums about it being a money making racket and ending up with more problems than you had initially

    • Posted

Hi can you tell me the reason why the Gyn said you should never have had the ML procedure done I thought all patients suffering from VA were suitable, is this because you were suffering from this contact dermatitis and If so how do they diagnose this condition?
    • Posted

Hi Kathryn I never had a problem with my vagina.  The burning was in my urethra only.  She should have never done the treatments.  It is contact dermatitis.  I called her on the phone and spoke to her.  Told her what other doc said.  She could have cared less.  I was just $ to her.  When I get better, I am going to contact an atty.  I should have been on a cruise this week.  Trip next month and 3 concerts cancelled.  I was not going out. Was too afraid.  Going out a little bit locally.  Now going to lunch with friend.

so Linda... its was my understanding (may be wrong) that the person who did the mona lisa did not diagnose.  My gyn diagnosed, I did my homework and decided on mona lisa... was told at that time it was used for rejuvenating sexuality but had helped with uti's and vaginal atrophy.  no guarantee   Tried it for atrophy because I was desperate.  for me it worked .... hard to tell difference between vagina and urethra, mona lisa did away with uti's so urethra improved after treatment.  did the mona lisa cause your contact dermatitis or was it there previously

Can  I ask what your initial diagnosis was and was it vaginal atrophy? How long was it before the dermatitis was diagnosed and how many visits to a Gyn.
    • Posted

Before I had my first ML treatment, I had to undergo a very complete vaginal exam to make sure of the diagnosis. It was also to rule out reasons I shouldn't have it such as a prolapse or other gyn. disease etc. Did you have a complete exam or did they just do it? If so you certainly have a case. However I hope by filing a law suite the FDA doesn't pull this treatment from the market. It has been a life saver for those of us who actually need it !

Hi I had VA diagnosed by a Gyn after self referral. I then chose the ML treatment by another Gyn there was virtually no consultation before procedure other than ascertaining I had previously been diagnosed with VA , I blame myself for this as I chose this Gyn as a consultation fee is wavered, after seeing all the discussions on this forum this on my behalf was absolutely the wrong route I am now left in an unknown situation other than feeling so so positive about advice on this forum about estriol I have some serious decisions to make .

I did not have a complete exam by the GYN who performed  Monalisa… I was diagnosed by my regular urologist gynecologist  and along with her information made a decision to do the Monalisa   Was told at that time there were no guarantees that it would fix my issues

am retired from the legal field and unless the patient is suffering continual issues that are life-changing there is not much of a case

In the United States another doctor would have to say that the Doctor Who performed the Monalisa  did not adhere to what other doctors in the area would have  and you have to find a doctor to testify against the person who performed  it.  not likely

No I was having burning in my urethra only.  Saw 4 doc Gyno 3 uros.  Finally the last said I had dryness to start using coconut oil.  She mentioned the mlt and had it done at another uro.  Two uros sent me to this specialist and he last week diagnosed me with dermatitis.  It's from lack of estrogen.  Seeing dovpc who treats estrogen on Tuesday.  Went to this specialist today and told him externally on one area where my pubic hair half way down I would getting itching and burning just as bad as in urethra.  So he gave me a steroid cream to use there only if I'm burning.  Twice a day on burning day then one day later.  It comes and go.  I give up one thing after another.  the urethra area is so much better.  Aquafor before peeing spray water after then coconut oil.  Can't put soap near private area.  Use special soap all over rest of body.  Special detergent.  No pads and fabric softer.  If I go anywhere it's a trip carrying everything.  Good thing I don't have smallhandbag.  I joined the face book Mona Lisa touch.  If I had read some of the nagative comments, I would have not jumped the gun.  She made me worse.  I will pursue down the road.

No nobody did an exam on before treatments.  I was just a dollar sign for her.

No no exam was done on me before treatment.  I was a money maker for her.

Hi is contact dermatitis associated with VA or low oestrogen, due to the menopause, or was this condition there previously, or do you consider the ML caused this, one thing is very clear a thorough examination needs completing before this procedure is carried out to rule out other issues, I personally did not have a thorough examination carried out prior to ML as I had previously been diagnosed with VA.and thought that the ML would solve all my problems, I feel a bit negative about it now after hearing many controversial issues with the procedure. There does not seem a concise route to follow, either with the procedure or anything, I am feeling really low at the moment and my issues are nothing compared to some unfortunate people.
