Mono need help

Posted , 34 users are following.

Hi so In June I woke up one morning feeling very weak. I thought I needed to eat something but when I ate breakfast I still felt weird. I ended up having my first panic attack. My entire summer was filled with ER visits for weakness, low energy, fatigue, dizziness, off balance feeling, and generally feeling unwell. It turns out I have mono (diagnosed a week ago). I don't know what to do. Just looking for others' stories and well and recovery process. It's my 3rd month and I just feel so helpless. ?? Thanks guys ! Blessing to all

Its heart breaking to see how long this virus can affect a person! I have really bad anxiety so I always tend to think the worst. I'm not sure why I do these things but like, my son saying "my noses feels weird " or showing me a scratch since this virus has sent me in a panic... (did both these this morning) he really is acting mostly normal now, we saw his doctor Friday. His doctor told me his throat looks 100% better), glands still swollen though. Spleen less enlarged but still not 100% normal. It looks like he is on the mend but yet I still can't 100% relax.

      Hi Lea,

He is making a pretty quick recovery, It is very normal to have weird symptoms for many months, so try not to worry they will eventually go away.

Did anyone here go on special diets to recover ? I read online Gluten isn't good for you so I've been on a "gluten -free diet " the best I can and I try to stay away from sugar ?

Do these things really matter ? Because every now and then my appetite sucks so much and my energy isn't great , I really don't have the energy to ALWAYS eat gluten free and sugar free. Do you think that's stopping the recovery process ?

      Hi Christy,

yes, I heard that we should steer away from sugar and gluten.

i haven't gone on a special diet, I just try and eat healthy, fresh fruit, porridge for breakfast, good dinners with veg. I would find it difficult to cut sugar and gluten out completely 😬

Thanks Caroline. I never have much energy to make special meals. But every now and then I REALLY just can't do it. I'm going to keep trying my best but it's whatever if I can't lol

Christy, I tried gluten free. I tried many things suggested on Dr Google. I don't believe he has ever had EBVsmile

With you struggling with poor appetite I think it would be wise to eat most anything you can get down. Once you get well you can focus on a more healthy diet. I could not gain wt until I added things with high caloric value. Still eat as healthy as possible.

Like Mono said her daughter ate healther and exercised more thanthan her or the granddaughters and has struggled the most with this awful virus.

Lol yes Dr.Google doesn't know much. He still thinks the virus only last 6 weeks haha.

But yea I'm going to just try to eat healthy but I'm not going to let it get to me too much if I can't. And you're right I definitely need the calories/carbs. I once heard that it takes eight salads to equal up to one cheeseburger. So yea while it's healthy it's not filling you up enough to fight off the virus.

      Thanksss Rhonda !

      Hi Rhonda,

?I agree, I started eating whatever sounded good, not that much did. My daughter is gluten free& sugar free. Her 94 year old grandma says to stop being so healthy. Poor thing she really does wonder why we feel better and she is struggling, I think it is the fact that she continues to work. She has had a few hours here and there of feeling a little better, her brain fog is slightly better. We will take any good signs at this point.

OMG I'm glad you all brought up the link in the email being off! I thought it was just me.

Today was hard. His cousin came over to play earlier. He was pretty much normal all day but out on the couch by 730. Hes my kid that hates bedtime and asks to stay up late on weekends. I know this is all part of mono but it kills me seeing him not be his normal self and not knowing when he will recover completely. My anxiety has been super bad and I may see my own dr soon. This afternoon my husband randomly felt lightheaded which is not like him and I immediately thought of it being mono for him too. Ugh. Im glad to have a place to get my frustrations out cuz I don't think my friends/family really understand and I don't really know how my son really feels.

Aww lea I'm sorry to hear that. The good news is , you already have a suspicion of what could be wrong with your husband so that's good. This way he won't over work his self because he knows the protocol for mono.

I know it's hard not too worry because I watched my own mom and dad stress over my current state of health. But all will be well. This week was one of the toughest Weeks for me but I know I'm still improving. Even if your son isn't feeling to well, him going to sleep early is a GOOD sign. He's giving his body time to rest

Hey christy! I'm in the same boat as you: I first got the classic terrible sore throat 4 months ago in may, and throughout June I had bad nausea. The nausea slowly healed, and I finally felt myself for a week, then the fatigue and malaise and flu like symptoms hit me. For the last 2.5 months I have had a constant sick feeling, like fluish with no symptoms, or like a constant drowsiness and malaise. It's awful, but every doctor has told me that I'll fully recover, it's scary for sure but I guess we just have to be positive and sleep. Let me know what you guys think or if you've had a similar experience

Hi Chase I know the feeling. My first night day of sickness I felt so drowsy , like there was a cloud over my forehead it was so weird. But I've been told I'll fully recover and I'm sure you will too ! What else do you have ? Ever get dizzy or anything ? Or are you just one of the lucky ones that can just sleep this virus off lol

Oh I'm glad that it's not just me that the links are not working for anymore....for some reason none of the links to any of the strands of the forum are working in the last few days I've had to go back to an old link that did work to get into this - I'm not sure if anyone knows if there is a way to fix that or not?

Anyway just checking in and hoping everyone is having a better weekend....October is going to a good month for everyone on here I am believing that.
