More Pain Caused Trying To Stop Tendonitis

I'm very annoyed that at almost 8 weeks post op my pain is increasing in my new hip because I have to wear a boot on my OTHER foot to stop the tendonitis in that foot. It's one of those big, bulky boots with Velcro straps and a hard bottom that keeps my foot flat. I could live with it if it didn't make my legs so uneven, even with a shoe of equal height on my left foot. It causes me to limp to the point that my left hip twists and moves unnaturally with every step I take. It's causing more pain in the hip and I'm afraid it's not going to heal properly if I keep walking on it.

Has anyone dealt with anything similar or have any suggestions about how to make it easier for the next 5 weeks that I have to wear the boot?

I don't think I have the same problem as you have but with my new replacement being 1 in shorter it is making my right leg bother me.I'm kind of walking like the old mummy movies sadVery uncomfortable ! !

Yeah, a mummy or zombie! 😩 I know the boot is temporary but I hate how it makes me feel when I walk. I can only imagine how hard it would be if my legs were that different in length. I'm sorry for what you're going through.

I can tell you one thing as having suffered tendonities in both leg from the hip to the knee on the side of the leg, that Tendonities is NOTHING to fool with. I was literally handicapped by my Tendonities that turned into a perment condition, Tendonosis.

My right leg was always worse thn my left leg. When I got my total hip replacelemt April 30, 2014 it wa like a Miracle for me that it cured my Tendonosis in my right leg. I felt my tendonosis was MORE debilitating than my hip, really.

If you are 8 weeks post op, no doubt your hip has mostly healed. Please please take care of your tendonitis. If caught early the tendons can heal and you won't have a perment disability like I did. I never went to the doctor until 6/7 weeks after my attack and that was my mistake. IF I would have rested the tendons, they would have healed and I would not have gone into tendonosis. Instead it was our busiest time of year in our business and I jsut worked through the pain and went to the doctor later. By then it was to late.

Please do what you have to do to prevent a perment Tendonosis condition. It is really horrible to live with. Rest the tendon, protect that tendon.

Please can you explain to me what tendonitis is and how you can distinguish it from any other pain.

Thanks. I started feeling it in my foot before surgery and my therapist treated it a little but rest after surgery helped the most. Then as I started walking more after surgery, it came back. I'm in the boot for 6 weeks and I'm also getting orthotics for my shoes for support going forward.

The iliopsoas is a little better but they both severely affect my ability to walk. It's very annoying, especially when my hip itself seems to be doing very well. 😡

So meany of you having hip problems after op

I have very bad Bursitis for five years and very weak muscle that never joined back. Tryed everything in the last five year since my op and still in pain and a inch longer in the other leg that makes me limp. I think that the after care is not as good as it

should be. I live in the uk.

I am now going private for acupuncture

So I am hoping that will help. I do feel for you and hope you soon get better and when your boot comes off everything will be ok. Could you put something in your op leg shoe as it might be to sort while you have your boot on. Making it to long in your un op leg

Wow, I'm sorry you've had to deal with for so long. I don't think I've ever had bursitis but I've heard it can be miserable. I was treated for it before my labral tear was diagnosed but it didn't help because the steroid shot should have been in my hip capsule if they had known it was a tear instead of bursitis.

Im beginning to think my left leg may be a little shorter than the right but I'm still dealing with so many muscle and tendon issues that I won't know for sure until they settle down.

Im seeing someone tomorrow for orthotic supports for my feet. I'm hoping she will be able to help me find something like you suggested to even out my legs a little more while I'm wearing the boot. It takes a few weeks to get the orthotics anyway so maybe she can recommend something else in the meantime.

Thanks for your suggestion. I hope acupuncture works for you and you get some relief.

Beryl I agree with you. There is a serious lack of aftercare which in the end must cost the . NHS more. Now I know why I was advised to wait as long as possible before having op. Because you can't turn round and say I wish I hadn't had it done if you weren't a complete cripple.

Yes they know you are in lots of pain that you cannot live with before the op is done where did you have yours done was it uk

Our healthcare system in the US is different than in the UK and I'm very grateful that I can get the care I need. It can be expensive but I've always been able to find a doctor who will help me with whatever problem I have. I hope you both can get the care you need.

I think this is a case where the rehab of your hip takes a step back and you don't do extra walking. It might be worth having a word with a physio to look at exercises you can do to build up the muscles in the hip without actually walking. That way you can try to maintain what you have gained without teaching the hip to walk with a poor gait.

Poor you, it must be so frustrating. Hope in 6 weeks time you will be able to make progress again.

Thanks. You're right, I feel like I keep going backward instead of forward. I'm seeing a therapist twice a week and doing exercises at home but I can't do several of them because of the boot. Then if I take the boot off, I can't do the exercises because of the pain. 😟 I emailed my doctor for a prescription for patience but I haven't heard from him yet. 😁 I really wish they could send us all home from the hospital with one of those prescriptions!

Cindy once a hip replacement always a hip replacement. That's been my life, it is always a challenge each day ... Expectations of a life we had before all this...cannot ever get us back to who we were before hip replacement. It can cause issues forever. I have been in the ups & downs of hip disease arthritis issues just continues to take its toll on my body.

It all began for me in the year  2000 it was a struggle finding the cause of the hip pain, experiencing really incorrect diagnosis even surgery for a hernia and no hernia to fighting my way thu the health system at a young age. Still in pain i continued the constant saga of finding my way thru the medical industry. Even after hip surgery we are treated like a machine with parts that wear out & need replacement.

A mechanical hip pieces fit = your fixed. No care or very little after care treatment ... The tests shows the parts are good.  So UR good to go!

So we as patients have to follow thru with the rest what is expected. But healing is not black and white ... This is so crippling emotionally and physically. We are not machines.. Doctors in the hip joint profession profess their dedication ... To the patient or the ability to implant a device that really does not do what they are told by the manufacturer reps or doctors DONOT ell u of he many issues ahead and who have a few success stories. Many have staff who back up thi d. ( he's the bes..)& profess many of the misnomers we at told & uphold the process & greatly exaggerate the whole process, protecting their employer..

Where are the patient advocates.. Just those of us who have experienced this enough times with stories that would curl toes... I really think no one has any way to improve this tightly un- moderated  med system.  Or no one reporting the other side the long term care of hips after surgery. Not I have never talked to one referred to me from my dr who would ever tell of the horrors we have all faced.

My first time...No pain meds after surgery in recovery pain pump is broken... This is still happening, and more untold mistakes and issues.. Yet we never hear of other issues, it's all the well guarded truth. Therefore we have been given only enough information to protect the drs. Who protects us? I woke from surgery screaming in my sheets from the pain as my husband desperately clung to me prodding the nurses to at least give me a pain shot intil the issues why the pain pump was resolved. All I heard before and after this from my dr is ...nothing other than follow the after care instructions. And only ten years or so down the road the parts need to be replaced . This is now a life long issues we all face daily . This was never the walk in the park described. This has slowly like a cancer robed us of our futures because we were never told the truth...

instead we are left to fumble along on web sites in hopes to connect with others & find answers.

its fine to try to encourage others that there are better days ahead & there are a few. True.. How long  it lasts, a year, 2 or three pain free, for some not more than a few months after hip replacement.  we have all been there. In a yr or two things should get better, if UR lucky. Then again like after 3 experiences with hip joints surgery , the truth is they were all very different and all very painful and really scarry. Now the other hip needs replacing along with the painful recalled hip..see the truth is sad but better than the alternative...hip joint replacement is certainly not fo sissies...as Betty Davis once said, neither is the aging process.

stay positive life is a gift....

Peace, Luv & laughter... Ok mabe walking should be added too! No cane or pain.
