    Hi Kaz, I've only very infrequently had back spasms, usually where I've over exerted the muscles or similar.  My ex hubby used to get terrible muscle spasms, so much so he would end up on the floor writhing in pain and we ended up at A&E on a couple of occasions.  It turned out his was due to a misalignment of his spine and he got referred to an osteopath who said the problem originated in the neck area resulting in trapped nerves in the back muscles.  Couple of sessions with the osteo and he had immense improvement.  I've put mine down to 'age' (as with everything else lol) and just have to realise I cant go gallivanting around the way I used to be able to without suffering the consequences afterwards.  I do hope it eases for you soon. xxx

      Oh poor you.  I remember very well how much pain my ex was in when it happened.  I only get it if I've done too much like gardening or lifting stuff.  Definitely sounds like you may have inadvertantly put something out and a little physio might sort it.  I do hope it gets sorted really quickly for you.  Gentle hug. xx

      Hi Kaz, 'morning to you hon.  Had a painful night - my right arm kept going dead and painful, every time I turned over in bed it woke me up.  But this morning is not too bad to be honest, bit of a stiff neck and shoulders but elsewhere the pain really isn't hammering me.  May try going for a quick swim during my lunchbreak from work, while I have the ability - so fed up with being a couch potato smile  Hope you have a good day xxxxx

      Thanks Kaz.  Did manage to go to the pool lunchtime, stayed in the shallow end and did widths rather than lengths but a little is better than none eh.  Not feeling too bad at present other than shoulders so here's hoping our friend the sprite wont punish me later smile  I must say I feel in a better mood for having got off my backside and done a little exercise.

      I'm sure if I could sleep for the right length of time and it be a good sleep, I'd feel much less brought down by this - catch 22 eh.

    Hi Kaz,

    I know I don't have Fibromyalgia, but I can shed light on various areas from what I've read - I have a few friends that do have this disorder. It was them that asked me to help them fill in PIP forms, when pain not would one class as normal'.

    Fibromyalgia is a strange disorder which is why so many people are losing their PIP, because of how that form is laid out.

    Push that aside for a minute...

    I searched the UK Government A-Z of Illnesses to see exactly what or more to the point how much of it covers Fibromyalgia, I can officially tell you it is only mentioned twice in a section of 5 pages, this is bad when you consider that entire document is nearly 800 pages!! Within those 5 pages it refers to Fibromyalgia, with back pain only with only 2 references!!! This is probably showing you a different way, to how ATOS look at it.

    However, has I have said before I know many specialists across the UK. The one I am referring to is a Neurologist, but this is where people think all Neurologists are the same, I can assure you that statement is far from the truth. Each Neurologist studies or let's say specializes in certain areas and in great depth, I think it is about time I introduced you to Consultant Neurologist Dr. Jon Stone - he runs his own website, and answers questions - if you have any via email.

    The page on his website I will point you to explains 'pain' but, not as you or myself at first thought would imagine. It contains a video, which I think you should watch, this is a partial quote from the page, he also has many links to websites that go to UK based sites regarding Fibromyalgia. The video is 5 minutes long, but it will give you a better understanding than anything I have shown you. It was created by many doctors, consultants and Dr Jon Stone himself.

    Because of the link is external from this site I can only post it via PM, it is a shame since Jon has a lot of detailed information available. But here is the partial quote about pain...

    Types of Pain

    The commonest types of pain in people with functional neurological symptoms are:

    1.    Back Pain – usually felt in the low back spreading to either side

    2.    Neck Pain – often persistent and worse with movement

    3.    Widespread muscle and joint pain – this is sometimes called ‘fibromyalgia’, especially when it presents in combination with fatigue and unrefreshing sleep.

    4.    Complex Regional Pain – This is when a limb becomes painful and difficult to use, usually after a minor injury. The limb may sometimes be swollen or change colour at times. Weakness is often seen in the affected limb which is not entirely due to pain and has identical clinical features to functional weakness. Likewise functional sensory symptoms and functional  movement disorders can be seen in complex regional pain.

    There is useful information on most of  these types of pain from the Arthritis and Rheumatism Council.

    I'll PM you the link, it would be better if Alan (the moderator) could get this Neurologists website "whitelisted" to stop my posts going into moderation, beings I point many people to him. It would be nice to refer people to my Neurologist, but considering he is the best in the UK, even I have to wait 4-6 months if I ask for an appointment.

    Anyway, Kaz I'll PM you!

    Regards,

    Les.

    Hi K.

    spasms usually mean that magnesium isn't getting there where it's needed. I've got another tip for you something  I learned today to mitigate muscle pain:

    fill a cloth bag with clean sand;

    heat it in the oven;

    wrap it in thick cloth and

    place it where needed for 15 minutes.

    Do this every day for 1 week.

    The man that told me this said  it worked like magic on his lower back pain.
