Hi Maggi,
People keep telling me that everyone heals at a different pace. I'm almost 8 months post op and it's hard for me to put my shoes and socks on. It causes pain in my buttock and groin from stretching, I guess. When I would sit, it was so painful--like a baseball was under me. Just four days ago, I realized that the "baseball" was gone. What a relief! It still hurts down the side of my leg and my knee won't bend. I'm very discouraged. However, I think you sound like you're doing fine. Eight weeks isn't very long for such a procedure. Just don't overdo it. I have a feeling I might have done that at the very beginning, and I also had a local PT that was extremely aggressive. I quit going to that one. I am going to one now associated with our local hospital and the difference is night and day. I think there was damage done that is now the culprit. I don't think I'm expecting too much too soon, but I guess time will tell. If not soon, I'll get a second opinion. I'm still in extreme pain. So, I'm certainly not a specialist, but it's just my opinion, that you don't have too much to worry about. If it keeps hurting and won't go away, I'd get it checked, though, even if it's just to ease your mind. Your pain is just like mine and I've had it xrayed it seems like a million times. Remember to rest. I don't mean to stay in bed all day, but those muscles have to heal after such an ordeal, so rest a lot. It your exercises cause pain, I'd say to stop. That's only my opinion. Don't get discouraged--just take it easy for a day or two and see if that helps. Good luck--and don't break those three precautions! Have a great day!!

Thanks for that Dana , I was disappointed that I wasn't told that you can never rotate your hip again or bend more than 90 degrees or bend over sideways to put on your shoe , it make doing yogi a lot more difficult

Maggi,
I wasn't the one who told you that. The 90 degree was the first three months. I've never heard about not being able to put your shoes on or rotating your hip. I hope you'll check with someone else about this. I'm having a slow, painful recovery--I'm 8 months post op but I can and am doing all those things you mentioned. Sorry for your worry or any misunderstanding. Dana

My surgeon told me I could never for the rest of my life bend more than 90 degrees or rotate my hip , I don't know you can't win they tell you to exercise and I walk 40 minutes morning and 30 minutes afternoon then do three sets of 20 squats, standing lunges on both legs and then step up then the next day suffer but do it all again ????? I am now 9 weeks post op

Maggi,
I'm so glad I didn't make it sound wrong. I've never heard anyone told that . I think I'd ask another doctor. I think he's very wrong unless something went wrong or was different from the others who have had the same surgery. Best of luck and I hope you get GOOD news.

Dear Maggi,
Why would your surgeon tell you that?
What was the diagnosis and reason for having hip replacement surgery ?
Are you sure that that is what your surgeon told you ????
You had the posterior approach to THR surgery and therefor there are restrictions like:
do not go beyond 90 degrees - do not bend over beyond 90 degrees
do not twist
do not rotate
Or B (bend) L (Lift) T (twist) for at least 6 weeks or until you have your follow up appointment -
At follow up appointment your surgeon will check your range of motion, look at new x-ray and probably will release some restrictions - Sometimes it is necessary to extend some of them..
Who are "they" who tell you that you HAVE to do this exercise routine ?
Maybe you can make another appointment with your surgeon and have him explain these Lifelong restrictions and ease up and your routine ... apparently it is too much for your body right now ...
When is your next appointment with your surgeon scheduled for??
I would take one day off ... one day of just taking it easy ... no rigid schedule , but just leisurely go about your day -
You are doing so great - you really are - be gentle and kind to your self instead of beating your self up for still being in pain, okay
please come back here any time -
big warm hug

Oh Maggi,
don't wait until your next appointment with this surgeon .... how can you live in fear like this for another 10 months ...
Something is not right - perhaps a misunderstanding -
swollen knee and leg are normal, even at 9 weeks post-op ... you mentioned your daily exercise routine and that might be way too much and strenuous for now -
slow down Maggi, you move too fast ... go back to basics - when it hurts, stop !!
there is NO GAIN IN having PAIN in recovering from hip replacement surgery ...
tjis is not power training, body building or training for the marathon --- this is a healing process where muscles, tendons, bone, joints etc. need to be repaired - your body is doing that, so please allow her to do her job - she is screaming at you right now , now listen ...
Angel blessings sweetheart -

Not really but as already said people heal at different rates. I was the same at 8 weeks by 12 weeks it was a lot better. 👣

I can't believe the difference from 8 weeks to now at 12 weeks, thought I would never get better, but now I am going in leaps and bounds. Don't be disheartened you are early in healing stakes and doing well

You are doing find. We all expected to be fine after few weeks. Every one heeling difrently some fast some slow. You are only 8 weeks give your self same time. Listen your body, rest when you need, do some excersice but if is started hurting stop and rest.
Go for short walk. Take day at the time. Every day will get better and better and remember heeling take time.
Good luck , hug MADLA 💗
