Muscle/Tendon Pain with Hypothyroidisn

Posted , 67 users are following.

I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism for 4 years now and am still struggling with my endocrinologist to get my dose right. The last few months I have been suffering with severe pain in my shoulder - which a physio says could be related to my thyroid problem. I thought others might like to be aware that an under-active thyroid can cause muscle and joint pain - I certainly did not realise. I have been reading the info on this site and now I can connect other things like stiffness and difficulty walking upstairs at times, odd pains in other joints - knees, hips and back ache.

Are you on thyroid meds? I have hypothroidism and I'm on generic for Synthroid 137 mcg. But Synthroid does not contain T3, only T4 and I'm not able to convert the meds to T3 so my doctor started me on Liothyronine SOD 5 mcg. and I seldom have the pain I had in my legs. With the two meds I also take 400 IU of Vitamin E and 200 mcg of Selenium. I'm taking these when I get up in the mornings and not eat for at least 1/2 hour. I feel so much better.

Wow. Some of these posts are years old, but I just wanted to express my gratitude for people's sharing, I'm at least finding some relief knowing I'm not alone in this crazy journey of health.

I'm 37 and was diagnosed with hashis in my mid 20s, been on a stable dose of 88mcg for years but recently really struggling. I think due to b6 supplements a doctor told me to take, has perhaps changed my levels of tsh. I've had headaches for weeks, pain over the back of my heart or in my muscle lining my back lungs, leg pain, nerve pain, fatigue and jitteriness, and really worst case scenario anxiety

I know that there is so much doctors and all of us don't know about the body. But I'm so tired of feeling blamed for these symptoms with the umbrella of anxiety.  It's part of a dog chasing its tail to always be hearing that my health could change if I just changed my mind about it. I mean, I would love to do that, but that advice is also what keeps me in the gutter. Thanks for sharing your stories. We're not alone, not crazy, and not making this up just because we're not happy about something. Sending love.

I saw a naturopath who figured out I was hypothyroid. She put me on t4 and naturethoid, but I didn't seem to improve much. I did lots of reading and found many who say t3 helped. I asked to try it. It helped tremendously. I didn't have near as much fibro pain, headaches, and lost 40 lbs. Doc said I had to increase t4 dose but I felt worse. She said I became hyperthyroid. She decreased the t3, but left t4 high. I feel terrible now. Will need to go back and get t4 reduced, and t3 increased. If doc won't do it, I will find another doc. Most conventional docs dismissed my hypothyroidism. I've heard naturopath and functional medicine docs are better and will help. Best of luck.
