My boss feels I can return to work in 3-4 weeks after a vaginal hysterectomy

I just made the decision to have a vaginal hysterectomy done aug 24th . I told my boss on friday and he seemed ok. However he must have been freaking out over the weekend as he now feels that this will be a minimally invasive procedure and I should be fine 3-4 weeks if not 2!

have just finished breakfast in my hospital bed after having a vaginal hysterectomy only the day before yesterday.
trust me, if you are given 6 weeks off to recover, then take it my lovely. I had a biopsy done about 6 weeks ago and went back sooner than I should. Thankfully they could see I still wasn't myself and sent me home. Would your boss be happy if you went back not on form and something happened that meant you were off for a longer period of time, all because you were not putting yourself and your health first?
i feel bad as I have only been in this post since March this year and already had lots of time off!! It can't be helped.
no one was more apprehensive than me about having this done, but can honestly say, the only pain I have had is that if wind!!!
trust me, you'll have a nice little sleep and before you know it, it's over. It's a killer not being able to do anything as I am not one for sitting about, but make the most of it. Will be thinking of you, you'll be fine.

I wish you all the best and recover soon. I will take the time off, although I am like you and constantly on the go. Maybe I will actually read the books I bought for christmas! Lol. The weather will still be nice so I will sit in the backyard. My job can be very stressful, I am a secretary for an eye doctor in a hospital. Sometimes we see 60 patients a day. I have to be on my best game when I am there.......
I am afraid of the surgery like most people I guess, but I am trying not to dwell on it. I have to trust that my surgeon will do a good job and I can move past this.

Yes, try to do other things to take your mind off it. I'm sure your surgeon will do a great job. I just had to keep telling myself that thousands of women have this done and live to tell the tale... This time next year we will probably have forgotten that we had this procedure. Hopefully our fears and story's will help others.
Take care

As you know I had a TAH & BSO 3 weeks ago tomoro I know this is slightly different as I was cut open but inside all the work they did is the same in my eyes x I had my op in the Tuesday and got out on the Friday I would of got out earlier if I could as they did nothing for me, I got myself out of bed which my husband thought was terrible, they did not change my catheter which was in almost 3 days and this burst all over the floor disgusting, getting back to being off work sorry went in a tangent ha x take as much time as you need as I have found out your body will tell you enough us enough, I went for a short walk yesterday and felt ill thought I was going to pass out u am saying this because it's been 3 weeks and still in pain please listen to your body not your boss xxxx take care I'm here for anyone xxx

You are so right about listening to what your body says. I have a tendency to want to rush things but I think having this done makes you realise that you can't hurry the healing process. This goes for going back to work too!!!
Take it easy. X

My surgery is coming up and so far I am working on not worrying about it. I told my boss I will let him know as I dont know how I'd feel after. I have a letter for him from my surgeon and it says 6weeks recovery. I am currently on my period and it is horrible! My flow is like a river and everytime I stand up I feel faint. I pass huge clots and have to take meds for pain. I need this to be done with, i am tired of being tired.....

I had my operation at 10.00 on Saturday morning and am going home tomorrow. I am recovering well but I think they like to make sure you are 100% ready. I think this is about normal. 3 days/ nights.
I was nervous too but it's over before you know it. Good luck. Jo

I just had one on June 26th. No driving for 2 weeks, which is the norm. I went back to work 3 weeks later. Wednesday is my 6 week post op and I feel great. I am waiting for the green light to work out and get back to normal. Everybody is different but vaginal rather than abdominal is an easier recovery. You can go to work but you still can't push or pull for 6 weeks or lift heavy objects. I say after the 2 week post op see how you feel. Your doctor will say it's up to how you and how you feel. If it's a desk job you're ok. Good Luck with your surgery!! I promise it'll go well.

I think I will be fine to go back to work in 3weeks. It is so hard to know ahead.
Thank you and I am glad you are doing well.

You will be fine. I was a bag of nerves when they took me down. Debbie is right, we all get scared I don't think you would be normal if you wasn't. Please let us know how you are afterwards.
