My cure for LPR!!
Posted , 24 users are following.
I was diagnosed with LPR in July 2017 having gone to my GP with a feeling of a lump in my throat.
The standard PPI's were prescribed and many of them, all with no effect. My symptoms became worse and additional symptoms developed. Pains across my chest, pains under my arms, painful lymph nodes, back pain, headaches, feeling of my throat swelling, choking, sore throat day after day after day!
Camera down my throat into my stomach, camera up my nose and then down my throat, voice therapy, bland diet for six month!!! and I mean six months, no alcohol, chocolate, fatty foods, I didn't cheat once.
Alkaline water everyday, books bought, research conducted, DGL, Mastic Gum, Slippery Elm, natural alternatives. Gaviscon Advance, probiotics, we've all been there.
Paid privately to see a specialist who was happy to take my money and tell me I was going to have this for the rest of my life so "Get used to it"
I felt SO BAD!!! depressed, looking for a miracle, prayed a lot! I really thought it was going to be the end of me. Anxious, unable to enjoy my life anymore knowing that this pain was going to be with me forever.
The alternative medicine did help ease my pain but it didn't get rid of it. At the end of everyday my throat would be so sore.
I've mentioned the probiotics and I was taking these for around 3-4 weeks before I started to notice a slight improvement. I was taking 2 x 3 billion good bacteria in tablet form about 30 minutes before my evening meal.
I continued on this dose for months until a friend came over just before Xmas and handed me an un opened bottle of Acidophilus 20 billion. It may sound silly but in all the hours of research conducted It didn't dawn on me that I could up the strength.
I started taking just one tablet before my main evening meal since Xmas.
Gradually all my symptoms have subsided, so much so I had 2 cans of a Cola yesterday and no issues at all. I had one just to test it and then another as I couldn't believe I wasn't experiencing any pain!!
I'm not saying that this will be the silver bullet for everyone but for me by upping the strength has made such a MASSIVE IMPACT. I'm still in shock that I no longer have a sore throat, any feeling of swelling or difficulty swallowing.
I wanted to share my findings as I know exactly what hell looks and feels like.
Its not a quick fix and has taken several weeks to to get to this stage but they have really helped me.
If you stumble by this post I hope that this information may assist.
Good luck and if I experience any changes I'll come back and post again.

Hi Simon, i have similar symptoms as you and the chest pains going into arm pit area and across back really freak my out. I will consider the probiotics , i am also vitamin D deficient but felt the tablets i was given made my acid worse. I got a vitamin d mouth spray as it doesnt irritate my stomach.
It gives me hope that you have found something that works for you. Best wishes Frances.

Hi Frances,
Funny enough I've just had some blood tests and I am Vit D and B12 deficient.
I've had a course of both for the last two months and have now re addressed the balance. Sad thing is my LPR symptoms have returned.
I have continued to take the pro biotics and have had to slowly increase the dosage.
I'm currently taking 6 x 3 billion with my evening meal.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Best Regards,
Simon

Hi Maria,
They were doing really well and all of a sudden I've seen a return of my symptoms.
Many things run through your mind including I wonder if I've got a bad batch of tablets?
No reason why they should stop working.
Needless to say I will up my dose and see if that makes a difference.
I'll let you know how I get on.

I read your initial post with some interest as I have been having LPR for around 18 months.
I have seen two ENT specialists and a Gastroenterologist.
Numerous tests, with cameras, scans and probes fitted. PPI's do nothing at all. All the tests come back in the normal range. The ENT can see the damage and irritation when he looks with his scope at the back of my larynx.
That only leaves me with diet and lifestyle to change.
I am making changes with those to try and find if there are triggers or reasons for my LPR which I can address to help me to manage this.
It is a most difficult and persistent chronic condition to manage.
My throat and voice, I believe it also affects my ears, are not good.
When you mention that yours had returned what are your primary symptoms with LPR..?
Best wishes

Thank you so much for posting this. Your experiences are so similar to mine - I developed "chest pains" about 20 years ago and was eventually diagnosed with stomach problems (just before the consultant was about to refer me to a psychiatrist because he thought it was imaginary!) I had treatment for helicobacter twice and was then advised to continue with PPIs but I found they made things worse. Gradually the pain and reflux became worse so that I woke every morning with a sore throat and dreaded having to eat because the after-pain was so bad. There were packets of Gaviscon in every room in the house! I'd tried mastic gum, slippery elm, and occasional bottles of kefir, but nothing worked until I followed your advice and bought a month's supply of high-dose probiotics. They worked like magic - within 2 weeks I could almost feel my stomach healing. I've not had pain for months, and no sore throats any more. I occasionally take lower dose probiotics to keep things topped up but just as a preventative. It is quite strange being pain-free! Thank you again for your most useful suggestion.

Hi Simon, currently in the process of being g diagnosed LPR well got given a bit of paper from the doctors (cheers for that) been struggling 2 months with a feeling stuck in my throat which turned into this feeling of acid travelling up. Nothing has changed and after changing my diet not much has changed apart from massive weight loss which is worrying. I have just come across this page and will try the probiotics, im starting with 3 million first to see, any other advice you can give?
