My daughter needs help. Please. Kidney pain with perfectly normal panels.

Posted , 32 users are following.

My daughter, 23, has had kidney pain for over 10 years. She has been to many doctors. Please excuse the fact that I dont know all the proper names for all the tests and such, but she has had blood tests, ultrasounds, live CT/X-ray thing to check urinary tract functions, something where they filled her bladder up with fluids for some flow check, etc., etc.

She doesn't always tell me things, but she talks to her mom and then I hear about it. My daughter is tired of the same tests over and over. I am tired of seeing her in pain all the time.

She just had a blood panel done and everything is in normal ranges. Kidney and liver were normal.

I was hoping someone out there may have some insight or information about what else may be causing her to have so much pain so often.

Thank you for taking the time to hear me out.

Concerned Dad

Any solution yet??? Same here. It started with a kidney stone too big to pass, i had a surgery and haven't been the same since, i even had the same surgery again by another doctor because i thought it would fix these pains but had no effect, its not stones. Now i have trouble emptying my bladder completely. it feels like kidney pain but sometimes different. Some of the places where i get a sharp pain i can feel swollen tissue or a gland or something where my pain is with my finger tip... its been 3 years and its not getting better.. I can't sleep on my right side any more, and I so badly want to. I often have a few good days and will think I am healing or getting better only to be slammed with pain and discomfort again, the fatigue is what is ruining my life. I don't even want to sit down, I stand all day. My kidney looks fine says the urologist, my ct scan looks fine says my pc, i swear i believe they think I'm just wanting pain medicine, and I'm afraid to say that, they sure won't give me much, but offer me stuff that makes me feel even worse. I've learned you have to take 25 tandem jumps before you can go sky diving alone. Praying for help.

I replied to the other posts on this thread. I asked "do you vape?" was just currious is we all vape and all have the same kidney pain..... but IT WAS DELETED BY A MODERATOR from ever post I asked that on. EXCUSE ME what was wrong with that? Someone obviously doesn't want us figuring this out. Thanks for nothing, I will not post my updates here.

Hello Matthew, I'm sorry to hear about your daughter, for I'm dealing with the same trouble. I hope, and pray that she'll find the help she needs, one question.... has she ever been told about the size of her kidneys, like does she have small kidneys? It could be the trouble, and maybe you could find a solution there. It's worth a try. I'll pray for her, and you too! Good luck, and GOD BLESS YOU BOTH!

Hello Matthew, I'm sorry to hear about your daughter, her pain, and the trouble she's having. I'm dealing with something identical. One question; has she ever been told about the size of her kidneys? If her kidneys are small, that could be the problem, don't know for sure, but it's worth looking into. I'm praying for her, and for you too! Good luck to you both, and GOD BLESS YOU BOTH!

Hello Matthew, I'm sorry to hear about your daughter her pain, and the trouble she's going through. I'm dealing with the same trouble. I have one question for her, has anyone told her about the size of her kidneys, like are they small, compared to regular size kidneys? Maybe you could find out, because sometimes small kidneys can cause a lot of problems, and this is worth looking into. Anyway, I'm praying for her, and you too. Good luck, and GOD BLESS YOU BOTH!

    Hi matthew,

I can relate to a lot of people on here. I thought my kidneys were the problem. I was experiencing dull aches on my side/back and deep in the middle of both sides of my abdomen. Sometimes just my left side. I was also getting symptoms such as weight loss, joint problems, bloodshot eyes and even hair loss.

I've just tested positive to SIBO after months upon months of negative tests for bloods, stool and urine. Aswell as colonoscopy, endoscopy and ultra sound all being fine. I was quite surprised because a lot of my symptoms above did not seem related to SIBO, and perhaps they wasn't. But I heard that a lot of vegans have this problem and I went vegan at the start of 2020, so I thought I'd buy a test.

I'd recommend doing a SIBO test or any other gut related issues, especially if you've changed your diet just before getting symptoms. The gut can cause abdominal pains throughout your entire abdomen, so it can be confused with anything else you think it might be, like the kidneys.

    Good luck! Lewis

Hi, I'm sorry she's going through that. I've been dealing with something similar for the last 4 or so weeks. It began with random flank pain (dull achy feeling) on my left side which lasted for a few hours, and I thought nothing of it because I figured I just had a sore muscle from working out. The same pain showed up again several days later, and lasted about a day. Same thing again days later, but this time the pain started to radiate to my left upper and lower abdominal quadrants and left inguinal area. The pain was still achy and dull, with occasional sharp jabs. At this point I sent a note to my PCP. Since then, the pain has been daily, kind of off and on throughout the day. I still have the flank/side pain, but also now experience what feels like someone blowing up a spiked balloon under my left lower ribs. I also feel nauseous throughout the day and haven't been able to eat much for 1.5 weeks now, finally was given Zofran for that. Not pregnant. No fever, normal BMs (no history of constipation either), no painful urination or blood in urine. I do have occasional chills and tenderness upon palpation of my left abdomen. So far we've done a UA, bloodwork (CBC, metabolic panel, kidney function), and CT scan with IV contrast. All were completely normal, minus some mild stool in the colon on the CT. I had elevated serum creatinine for the past 2 years, trending upward, but it was normal thus time. Normal kidney ultrasound in Sept 2020. My pcp sent a note to me just a bit ago suggesting it might be constipation and to try Miralax... I am not a doctor, but I work in the medical field and I know my body. This is not constipation. I am a fairly healthy 25 year old female. I do have fibro and POTS, but both are relatively controlled.

    Hi Matthew,

Wondering if your daughter was able to get a diagnosis? If you can get a referral to UCSF, they are absolutely the best, with the best rheumatologists in the world. I had kidney pain start in my twenties when I went on a diet. It has come and gone over the years, and I suffer with the pain. I never want an ultrasound or CT Scan again as I have gone in circles with it too. As it turns out, mine is an autoimmune issue. Go in another direction and see a rheumatologist too, I would recommend highly. I had to have a biopsy which confirmed Wegener's - and but for that biopsy, I wouldn't be here! Don't give up looking for an answer and do advocate for yourself!

im hoping by now you have found out the issue but sounds like lupus to me maybe have dr do an ANA test

hi! ive been going through something very similar for the last few years but havent got anywhere with a diagnosis. have you managed to get anywhere yet?

Ive struggled with some of those same things myself. It sounds like it may be an auto immune issue. Id suggest to the Drs to do an ANA test and a sed rate test. Oddly enough certain kidney pain coupled with her other symptoms could be an auto immune issue. An ANA titer test can show if she is developing antibodies that may indicate the body attacking itself. You may want to see a Rheumotologist . A thyroid test would be good too
