My frozen shoulder has come back again. Did yours?

Hello,

Looking for some advice as I can't believe it's happening again.

Had a frozen shoulder last year which ended with a cortisone injection just before Christmas. Thankfully it worked.

However over the last 10 days those horrible familiar movement restrictions and pain are coming back. It really is coming back. Has this happened to anyone else? Can I stop it or do anything to help?

Here's hoping.

My guess is the pain management from cortisone last Dec has worn off. It usually lasts up to three months, longer as it heals, so that Dec shot worked well for you. When my non-FS shoulder started having symptoms, I knew what it was this time, saw the doc right away and had cortisone very early on. Instead of letting the process happen, he referred me for a second preventative shot several months later (always guided), in conjunction with gentle physio. You might consider having another shot ASAP since the first one worked so well. Cortisone doesn't seem to work when either we wait too long into the freezing/frozen stages (the tissue is too adhesed) or have it injected in the office without its being guided. Hoping the best for you!

Oh poor you!I didn't think you could get it twice in the same shoulder. I am getting some pain in my original left FS at the moment but not the restricted movement. I just presume I have been over using it as my right arm is just about useless now.

Are you still under an nhs pysio? I would try to get an appointment asap to see if another cortisone injection is needed. I had two cortisone+saline injections two months apart before my first FS started to loosen up. I have to wait another four weeks before I can get one this time due to waiting lists and it is driving me mad.

    Good Luck

Hi Mad , as now you know FS lasts from just over a year to as much as 4 years. Do you think you interupted the sequence of freezing, frozen and defrosting and now resuming the usual routine and it will complete it's cycle in the time alloted by the severity of the disease.

It would be interesting to know of the history of your onset of FS and are you between 40 and 60 and if any family mmmembers were afflicted.

I had FS in my left shoulder it got worse with physio i had cortisone it didnt touch it i went and had another cortisone injection it worked for a fortnight at which point i complained to my practice manager. As i had suffered long enough and spent mostbof my time sittingvaround waiti g for tests and results. I finslly got somewhere saw a surgeon he sent me for hydrodilation, had my hopes pinned on this, it didnt work. So.my next step was surgery i had a sub acromial decompression and capsular release. Had it done was great i had no pain i had movement this was in april by August it was painful.ad movement was declining and pain increasing. Not only that it had also gone into my right shoulder so i have i have 2. The issue i have is thry wont operate on both so i am having surgery again on left and cortisone on the right then atva later date surgery on the right. Nightmare all in all pain lack.of sleep lack.of movement lack of life i cry so much and have put on so much weight through being dormant.

Thank you everyone for your replies.

I started in August with the pain which rapidly got worse and left me with limited movement and constant pain. Struggled sleeping etc.

      Physio did nothing.

I eventually went private and had a cortisone shot just before Christmas. After initial agony for a couple of days it worked and I have been pain free. Now the pain, niggles and limited movement have started to return.

So what now really? Can I prevent it from getting worse?

Hi everyone! I am new to this forum. I just had MUE & Arthroscopic release on April 20th. Started PT the day after. Everyday for 2 weeks, then 3x a week and now I am going 2x a week. I am so disappointed!!!

The only thing I have gained from the surgery is that I am able to lift my Right arm high enough to shave my armpit and a lot of debt!

I asked my PT today what his thoughts were as to my progress- should I be further along etc.? He said Yeah, I should be, if it was successful and apparently, it didn't do much for me and where I am at now, is probably the most I can expect.

I don't see my surgeon for a follow up for another 2 months. But I do see his PA again on Tuesday. So we will see what she has to say.

Oh, by the way, I'm still in pain - Now it's just a different type of pain and constant. Ugh....

I am on here for the same reason. Got it in October 2016. Once I finally got it diagnosed I worked hard and got most of my ROM back, the pain did not ever go away but got better.  Now it is getting worse. Since I fell and broke my greater tuberosity and tore rotator cuff, On the other arm I am in agony.  Both shoulders hurt all the time! Not sure how much more I can take. Any suggestions welcome

      Have Manipulation Surgery performed!

It helped me get to about 90%+ movement (left shoulder) and it's getting better.

I had a severe case of Frozen Shoulder some years back....after intense P.T. four days per week I recovered completely.  My three surgeons all convinced me to do P.T. intensely everyday and to embrace the pain associated with rigorous P.T. workouts.  They were exactly correct!  Though I screamed and yelled at times as I stretched and worked out my Frozen Shoulder--in the end it was all worth the temporary suffering.

Let me first say I am not a professional. I will comment (my opinion) as someone who has been through this horrible pain with my left shoulder freezing last year (2017).

Cortisone shots are Band-Aid's. In fact the two that I had injected did absolutely nothing to reduce inflammation or pain. On the contrary, it only brought on burning pain when being injected.

I went through about twenty cessions of unsuccessful physical therapy until I finally said enough and decided to have Manipulation Surgery which helped out tremendously. I still had to continue physical therapy but after seven or eight cessions I am back to about 90%+ movement. NOW, it has started in my right shoulder. I know what I'm dealing with now and I'm starting up my stretching exercises again (at home). If I can't break up the scar tissue on my own, I will schedule Manipulation Surgery again.

I'm not diabetic (which it becomes more common) so it must be just one of those things. Hopefully after I get total movement in my right shoulder it never comes back.

    Hope this helps!

      HI All,

Wondering how you all made out? I had FS in my right dominant shoulder JULY 17' to JUNE 18'. Then this AUGUST my left shoulder started freezing . Within the first month went to get started on Prolotheray shots (not cortisone). Its a restorative healing therapy that is supposed to make you shoulder stronger. Shots are scheduled about 2-4 weeks apart. I'm hoping that starting the shots earlier will encourage quicker healing. I'm kind of tired of being that sick person. And people who haven't had it DO NOT UNDERSTAND how debilitating and constant the pain is.

I have movement but if I lift anything over 10 pounds, pain returns, in both shoulders. Pain is wearing me out.
