My hormonal test came back OK. So how can that be if i am showing signs of perimenopause

I just received a call from my doctor informing me that my hormonal blood work came back ok. But how can that be if i am showing signs that i am in preimenopause. My symptoms are anxiety, panic attacks, internal shaking, head pressure, ringing in the ears, weak legs and arms, heart palps, heart racing, back pain lower and upper, dizziness, rib pain, breathing, throat problems which feels like something in throat, a few hot flashes, sound sensitivity and light. sweaty feet, brain fog etc. I do not feel like my old self, she is gone. I am crying right now because i just want answers. I have been confined to my bed for the past 2 days with such fatigue and crazy symptoms. I saw a elderly couple walking past my home looking happy and i started crying. I am 44 and feel worst than a 80 year old. I am afraid to go out alone, afraid to get an attack . My life feels robbed and i do not know what to do. Dr's look at me crazy. I am so tired of running to the ER only for them to take blood work, ekg and results showing nothing. Thank God. Why don't they have answers? why are us women suffering ? This is a time in my life when i thought i would be the most happiest. My children are all grown. I had so much planned. And now this. I just cry because that is all i can do. Have any of you got back hormone test that came back ok ?

I've had several blood tests come back absolutely normal. The first time was about 12 years ago as I was still on the pill which skews the result. My great female GP took a guess at early meno and started me on the over the counter help such as st johns wort and oil of evening primrose.

I was 43 then. At 55 I'm almost, I think, through the other side. Hot flushes are subsiding. The brain fogs are clearing. Panic and anxiety attacks are less frequent and I might just be able to see the end of the crap.

I ended up on anti depressants as I cant have HRT which made a huge difference. could not have made it this far without them.

You aren't alone and this is a great place to find answers and reassurance.

There is a brilliant thread with the 66 signs of meno..... at least something like that.... I found it weirdly therapeutic to tick them off as I got them 😧

if you don't mind, which antidepressant did you take? I am on the verge of starting one since I don't want to take HRT for personal reasons. TIA.

I took Citalopram. Its one of the more widely used and suited perfectly. At the worst point I was on 30mg a day and then went right down to 10 which just kepr the hot flushes nder control.

Unfortunately according to my OBGYN, hormone tests aren't always accurate measures of how close you are to menopause. Especially as your hormones can drastically fluctuate, especially during perimenopause and based on time of month, day, etc. Mine also came back normal, FSH etc. My FSH came back several time as 3 but then another time 12. But if you are in your 40s or older and have perimenopause symptoms you are most likely in peri. My symptoms began around 44/45 and started with increased anxiety esp at night trying to sleep.

Also, are you progesterone levels completely normal? That is the first hormone to drop.

if you went to gyno they wont test it all they will test estrogen but wont test progesterone and your estrogen can be normal but if progesterone is low in comparison you will have these symptoms this is why im sick of doctors i went to a hormone specialist and found out that i was estrogen dominant eventhough my level was normal but my progesterone was low in comparison anyway i stopped goingbcause it was out of pocket too expensive. im 49 and feel like a crazy person not knowing if its my brain my hormones or i have a disease lol! lately injust want to explode crying but i am stressed too with two kids and stuff too! i know it sucks but it will pass i just had blood work done and i cried cause the stupid nurse was causing pain and not doing it right now i have a bad bruise but it kicked off my anxiety when i was there and that never happens to me!!

I'm the same. My estrogen was "normal for my age" but my progesterone is crazy low which makes me estrogen dominant too. Apparently that's what happens in peri ...

My sister in law was period free for two years and was told her bloods were showing that she was well into the menopause. There was a family history of early menopause three generations in fact.

Well imagine her surprise when they found a beautiful baby boy when she complained of pain.

The point I'm trying to make is the doctors know no better than we do as I was told us was peri menopausal at 41 and I finally had my last period when I was weeks away from my 52nd birthday so obviously I wasn't pre menopausal for eleven years it's just what they think on the day.

I hope that things get better for you.

Actually my OBGYN and a lot of research now says you can be in perimenopause from 1 to 10 years lol. So 11 is prob true too. Tho I agree with you, they clearly know nothing about women's hormones or how to help us if they can't even tell when you're truly close to menopause. 😦

doctors miss the subtle changes in hormones sometimes. you may be very sensitive to shifts. i had symptoms before i was officially there. people telling you that you are wrong makes it all worse with added anxiety
