my hubby had a hip replacement on Tuesday. He wants a shower?

Hubby had hip replacement 5 days ago. He wants to shower and wash his hair.  Is there something that would keep the dressing and wound dry? He would like to shower instead of stand up washing.

I had a shower before being discharged from hospital. Wound was closed with Dermabond so no dressing necessary. Simply had to be careful not to rub it or soak it but there was no need to cover it in the shower. You can buy stick on grab handles for the shower. They'd be unlikely to take your full weight but are useful as a "steadying" aid.

    hi rosalind

With 1st THR I was not allowed to shower until staples were removed, with 2nd THR for some reason I had my shower 2 days post-op while in the hospital ...

I am assuming that you have a walk-in shower ... what are the instructions with regards to taking a shower - can you change the dressing if necessary?

I had home nurse who washed my hair - sat on a chair, back against kitchen counter and put head backwards - bliss !!!!

    good luck and be careful

    big warm hug

My dressing was waterproof so was showering in two days wilst still in hospital.  Could you ask your Docter for a waterproff dressing? It was great to shower and wash my hair so soon after op as I was thinking it would be weeks and have to use dry shampoo.

Good Luck with recovery.  I am 14 weeks and can't believe it!
