My husband is so depressed

Hi I was just wondering what help there is out there for the depression caused by PA ? My poor husband has been battling with this since 2014, he only got diagnosed in August last year. Today he finally cracked under the pressure, he's been up all last night crying and went back to bed this morning in the same state, he's never been emotional like this. It doesn't help matters when we are battling with the dwp over his PIP entitlement. I just don't know what I can do to cheer him up, I've tried but he's just lost intrest in everything.

    Hi Paula,

how's your hubby today? As someone else said you sound like a lovely supportive person and we who have this disease really need help. You mentioned biological meds; they are usually given when 2 of the DMARD's have failed. DMARD=disease mmodifying anti rheumatic drugs (I think, or similar ), such as methotrexate, sulphasalazine, leflunomide. The bios include Enbrel & Humira. The bios are frightened expensive, they are usually self-administered by a subcutaneous injection which is easier than it sounds. Depression is part of this disease not an additional problem, please stress that to your hubby. Men seem to regard depressionas a weakness (sorry, Robert and other guys on the forum, no offence meant!). Keep in touch, Paula and please look after yourself too, it's exhausting living with someone with a chronic disease plus your hubby will be grieving for his old life, as Lainey says. It has taken over 2 years for me to accept this.

He's not too bad today thanks sheila, I think the day out yesterday and all the support we had on here is helping. I'm just taking each day as it comes especially concerning the DWP they are the one who are stressing me out ! I'm sick of fighting for what we're entitled to.

As for the medication based on what you've said it looks like we've got a long road ahead as he's only been on methetrexate so far and he had a kengol injection which has dine nothing. Thanks so much for your support it means a lot x
