    Hi Sue,

I am sorry to hear this --- wow - does she live in a home, a care facility ?

6-8 weeks is a long time to be in the hospital, however, maybe due to her age and also physical condition, this might be the best and safest solution ..

Is there something bad about that hospital ?

Please come back and keep us informed, okay.

wishing you and your mum lots of strenght and please, have faith !

    big warm hug

renee, thank you. Mum lives at home with my sister and myself, we live upstairs she lives down.  The doctor explained that they will keep her in as she is 91 will have to learn how to walk. , because we live above a shop we have 13 steps to get to our front door and her doctor nearly had a fit expecting her to go up them.

the hospital ia amazing, i cannot fault any part of the royal free, the way they looked after her last night in a&e was just brilliant, and i know she will be cared for by an amazing staff as she will be in the ward next to the one i was in.

      thank you once again.

Sue I pray that your mother has a quick recovery and can leave the hospital sooner. You have to make sure that they get her out of bed and mobile. Take care!

That's very upsetting! The same thing happened to my husband's dad. He was 97, I think, and had severe dementia. His fall was a very minor one, but it broke his leg near the end of the femur. He had a partial hip replacement, with a new ball, just like your mom. His recovery was amazing. He regained the ability to walk. He was quite bent over even before he fell, and that didn't change, but he could walk using a walker and having a helper to prevent falls.

Something about his dementia or who-knows-what meant that he didn't feel much pain. In situations when the rest of us would have been screaming, he was just fine. He never acted as though he was in pain at all. So I hope things go as well for you mom as they did for my father-in-law. Hope her hospital stay turns out to be as good as possible for her surgery and recovery.

Annie, thank you for giving me some hope to a sometimes bleak out look. My sister and myself are mums main carers but we have a fantastic care who has been living in helping because i cant.

what happened to your father in law is exactly what happened to mum, we had a doctor come in on saturday gave her antibiotics, because she cant tell us she kept telling us the pain was in other places.

her op is now over, now comes the hard bit.

      thank you again.

I think it is good she will be in the hospital for awhile. It will be very hard work managing her care while she is this debilitated, probably beyond that of you and your sister's abilities. I know you will still be there for her as much as you can, and will do all you can, but the heavy lifting will be done by the people in the hospital - literally!

Hope your mum is ok , she must be made of tough stuff if she is 92. Good luck to both of you.

    Hi sue

i can understand your concern. I would be worried too. All I can advise you is try to go see her as often as you can. Take a few things she can eat and you know she likes I case she isn't happy with the food make sure while you are there you get some fluids into her. Nurses don't always have the time for paitents like your mum. I am not trying to worry you. I am just saying you don't know what is happening when your not there.

I I hope you and your mum will be fine

Hailea, thank you spoke to the hospital this morning and she is ok, eaten her breakfast, physio was going to try to get her out of bed.  The ward she is in, is next to the one i was in so I know the food and caring is brilliant.

her carer is going up to help her to, we are going to do it in shifts.

they are still a little concerned as she is not really weeing, even tho she is on a drip and drinking. Will let you know later

how are you doing hun, how was your bacon sarnie.

Glad you have everything sorted for your mum. It is good to know she is in good hands.  I guess if she is not passing water that would be worrying because she could end up with an infection but I am sure they will be making sure she is comfortable and that doesn't happen.

I hope she gets over that and she heals well.

Im doing ok except I have now got to go back to hospital because my brace was fitted wrong. rolleyes

it didn't feel right when I was trying to walk round the ward but they wouldn't listen. But they are Deffo listening now. I phoned my surgeon and told him. He is angry that I was sent home like this. I am sure I should not be in pain with it. I am sure I am supposed to be able to bend my knee and only my hip would be restricted so I could at least walk. I am sure it isn't supposed to rub the wound. I am also sure that it is not supposed to rest on or behind the knee but on the thigh area. So they have messed up big time. sad
