yet I read that this is not completely true. It says as long as you continue to do you PT at home it can still improve greatly. Does anyone else have a PT that is very pushy and seems to enjoy others pain?

Windows closing for what. A silly comment to make as everyone heals at their own rate. Scar tissue will build up yes but at home exercise is better than pushing yourself too hard and setting yourself back. Can you ask for a different PT? It should t be that painful otherwise it'll have the opposite effect. Keep us posted and sending best wishes. X

My problem is I'm very lax at home with PT because of the pain. I walk, do stretches and squats but the knee bending is murder!!

Unfortunately it has to be done ;-( however, keep doing the bending up to the point where you feel the pain is just becoming unbearable. . and perhaps take a good dose of painkillers before attempting it! I certainly went on improving the bend for a long time .. . probably four or five months . . until I decided I was ha whhad achieved (134 give or take a degree or two!) My PT was very nice, but certainly expected me to put up with incredible pain , so I'm afraid I said goodbye. . . . . .

Hi,
A lot depends on when your TKR was done. Yes, scar tissue continues to build up as part of a healing process. Once that happens it will be impossible to flex any further..then you are looking at having a "manipulation under anesthesia". I would encourage you to make an appointment with your surgeon and talk it over with him asap.

My surgery was 4 weeks ago. I'm at 106 per my PT person.

You are being pushed rather hard. . at six weeks I was only at 85, and as i said, am now at 134 . . . I wouldn't stress too much about this. But of course, perseverance is definitely necessary . . . . I just don't do agony myself

Hi Bak
No my Physio told me when she discharged me that I would keep on improving my bend just need to keep up with the exercises.
She never pushed me to the point of extreme pain. She never diminished the work I was putting in, even though I wasn't the quickest to get a decent bend. She never laid a hand on me, except to massage the incision scar once.
She was a lovely girl who tried to get me more invested in my own recovery rather than bully me.
Don't worry, with home working on your exercises you will get there.
After reading what some of the physiotherapists have been saying, I wonder if they trained with the SS!
Keep up the good work.
All the best

IT's so important to exercise at home. I don't understand the question but in order to get the knee bend you should have a set if exercises to do at home 3 times a day. Heel slides work particularly well in getting the bend gradually. I read once on this forum if you sit on a table or counter and swing your leg back and forth that it gets the bend too. If you're not happy with PT change to one who comes recommended for this therapy. Best of luck xx ,

It is time to go to a different physical therapist...I recommend not to stay within the same place of therapy itself...there are plenty of therapy business & I had been to a few of them... the first two was horrible to say the least agravating my knee that caused more harm than good...as other member posted elaine what window are they even talking about?...there is never...never...I say it again never a time frame when a person is suppose to heal period.....I am going on 11 months of a knee issue that I can't even say when it will be near normal again everything heals when ever it heals but for a therapist says that the window is closing I think a business that tells me that it is time to walk away from their stupidity being they obvious don't know too much & sounds they shouldn't be in business....
I wish & pray the best for you but start looking around for another therapist,God bless

Hi Bak!
ANYONE who pushes you to endure pain when you are recovering from extensive surgery HAS IT ALL WRONG in my opinion!😨
Physical therapy can be a very rewarding experience yielding great improvement, increased confidence, and a true pathway to getting your life back. Done in a kind and humane way, it can help you believe in yourself again!
I would suggest that you switch therapists...NOW!
I was in physical therapy for SIX MONTHS in 2015 as I recovered from my two total knee replacements. My first therapist wanted to push and tug my very sore knee. I spoke to the head of the department who listened to me and understood this plan was DEFINITELY NOT the one for ME. I was given my new therapist who took a more gentle approach from the get-go. My progress was exceptional, and I not only developed a strong trust, but I also developed the courage to try new exercises and use new equipment and machines.
I am enjoying my new knees and the absence of the horrible pain I had prior to surgery. More importantly I have great memories of the hard work to get where I am right now that was possible BECAUSE I had a physical therapist who SAW ME and HEARD ME.
I stretch and exercise every day at home, while waiting in line at the grocery store, when I am outside working in the yard, and even when I am reading or watching TV. It works quite well!😄
ALWAYS be your best advocate!
DO NOT settle for ABUSE!
Please let me know how things go for you! Sending prayers of clarity, strength, and love to you today!??

Each and every one of us is different although most of us have been on the same journey my physio consisted of three physio visits he was a very nice guy who insisted the brst way for recovery was slow and gentle exercise which i have carried on with since after three sesions i was almost straight and a 90 degree bend that was almost four months ago i havent measured anything since but i feel comfortable with where i am at i think the best method is a pace that suits each individual good luck in your recover.

yes, fine, but the overall feeling i get from this discussion is that people are worried that they may have "missed the bus'.
in my own case my knees have simply been too swollen to get that extra ten or twenty degrees.
i sit post 4 months and 9 months tkr

when the swelling finally goes down, and eventually it does . . you'll probably find you suddenly get an extra 10 or so. At least, that was what I found. it took a VERY long time for the swelling to go down though . . .
