Naltrexone and Bupropion ??

Posted , 9 users are following.

I'm on day 3 of the Naltrexone.  I was researching online if anyone gets really tired.  I start to get tired soon after I take the pill and before my first drink.  Anyway, I came across something that said not to take Naltrexone if you are taking Bupropion because Naltrexone actually contains Bupropion.  I do take 300 mg daily of Bupropion.  My doctor never mentioned a thing.  My pharmacist didn't say anything when I got the prescription filled.  Does anyone have knowledge if I should be taking these two medications together or not?

    Hi Kelly,

What a nuisance... the night from h*ll... after such a good start.  I hope to goodness that things calm down.  I am a sensitive soul, too... I always have side-effects to medications, allergic reactions, etc., etc.,  I hope you feel able to carry on through this phase.  Usually, the old "system" gets used to the new tablet, after a while.  The "while" is the unknown quantity !

    I wish you WELL.

    Blessings from

Thank you. You can read my comments to Joanna as I need to sleep. I feel like I can't move. This feeling was worse than drinking. I was scared of the dreams and jittery feeling. I could deal with bring tired then anxious and the stomach pain, the nausea and I forgot the dry mouth. But there's a line I draw to sensitivity. Like I said I out the video on fb promoting this. I do believe it can help others. 100%

I would call the pharmacy and ask them the direct question.  I don't know how their system works..but I do know that they get notification of "high" risk if there is an interaction.

Moderate risks may not matter....since people take higher doses of medication than others..the combination of you already taking the Balfocen with the little bit in Naltraxone may not be high risk for you.

For example...my Trazadone...100mg is enough for me..but it is a low dose....I take Celexa....and the warning for Trazadone says not to take with Celexa.  I was told by Dr. and pharmacy...that I am taking low doses of both of these drugs so that I would not experience an interaction.

Hope that helps..but call pharmacist to double check.

Thanks Missy.  It's all good.  And yes, if I got anything at my pharmacy they would tell me there is an interaction.  Good thing Joanna mentioned ingredents on the bottle and I looked and felt better that she was indeed correct.

I look up that stuff online too and did not see any intereactions with anything I take except immodium which I had not taken in about 2 weeks anyway.  Thanks for you help smile

The baclofen may yet be a contributor here. I see some info that indicates it may be in your system for 3-6 days after the last dose. Night Terrors was one symptom that was encountered during withdrawal. Per Wikipedia, withdrawal symptoms are more likely when baclofen is used for more than a couple of months, but they can occur with low or high doses.

Do you have any idea why you're sensitive to medication? Some difference in your liver enzymes, etc?

My last dose of Baclofen was on May 24th.  I started the Naltrexone on June 2nd - 9 days later.  Plus, I was only on a low dose of 20mg.

I have no clue why I am so sensitive to medications.  I'm also sensitive to the sun.  Imagine that!  I break out in a rash.  I actually have a doctor's note that if we have any outdoor activiites at work for our residents that I cannot participate if the heat and sun are a factor.

I always knew I wasn't normal but it's getting a bit ridiculous, lol!

Just trying to keep my sense of humor!

Oh, and I only took the baclofen for approximately 2 weeks.  A week before I quit and a while I drank.  Thus stopping on the 24th of May.

But you seemed to do ok on 12.5mg, with some tiredness?

Well, that might be a way forward, perhaps you just don't clear some meds from your system as quickly as others. Hopefully your doc will be able to shed some light on the matter.

She don't understand TSM.  She just prescribed the Naltrexone.  It was a doctor that comes to work to see my residents that is familiar with TSM.  He is not taking new patients but has given me advice on the med.  It's just not many doctors get it.  She most likely thinks I"m being abstinent on the Naltrexone.  But, it was this forum and a local doctor that game me the correct info.

I also have a sun allergy, Kelly.  The weather is beautiful here, but I am worrying about rash and anti-histamines.  All medications are a minefield to me... I think it has something to do with the immune system.

I hope things are improving for you.

You have to keep your sense of humour.
