Nausea 12 weeks after gallbladder removal
Posted , 108 users are following.
Had my gallbladder removed 12 weeks ago due to pain from 1 large stone. Had the dreaded diarrhea for 8 weeks but has settled. Have the most horrendous nausea I have ever experienced. It's worse in the mornings and I can hardly get out of bed its that bad. Some days it goes by lunchtime and I feel ok and other days it lingers until the evening and then I feel ok. Was back in hospital last week and other than a little gastritis everything is ok. My surgeon said it will go in time. I am just wondering if this happened to anyone else and how long did it take to go. Its starting to depress me now!

Did or have you been dealing with anxiety after the surgery? I woke up this morning and the nausea has subsided a little but I’m finding myself getting high anxiety. I don’t know why. I freaked out when my husband didn’t call me to let me know he got to work like he usually does. I was about to call his job when he called me and apologized and said he was fine. I was never like this before the surgery. My heart is racing a little. Maybe I need to drink more water. And I’ve lost my appetite again. Trying to stay positive though. I hope y’all have a good weekend!

Hi Shannon, Its been about 22 months after my surgery and im still dealing with nausea, bloated stomach extreme pain in the upper right quadrant of my stomach. Im still awaiting a gasterologist appt. I think I'm also dealing with some big anxiety maybe because of everything. About 6 months after my surgery I started getting short of breath, chest pains and high blood pressure. They have been running all kinds of cardiac tests thinking its an artery blockage and angina attacks. The cardiac tests have come back ok so im worried maybe is this anxiety from being sick so long? But my lips are also blue so i dont know? Hang in there!! One day at a time! I keep telling myself "and this too shall pass" take care.

I’m sorry you are having to go through all of that. The blue lips is definitely a red flag. I hope your doctors can get to the bottom of it. Yesterday was a rough day for me. I found out that I can’t eat dairy right now. I ate a Activia yogurt yesterday morning for breakfast, and my stomach was not happy. My nausea had been going away little by little, but after eating the yogurt, it came back full force, and it was also coming out the other end as well. I broke down and took a Zofran which half works on me, but yesterday decided to work. I hadn’t taken a Zofran in 2-3 days before that. I feel better this morning, just tired. My anxiety seems to be a little better. I now get some mild heartburn at night, and I take a Tagamet for it and it goes away. I pray everyday that I keep improving, and I pray every night for the people on this forum that we all start feeling better. This surgery is major, and the doctors keep saying oh it’s no problem. I didn’t have all these problems when I had my tubal 11 years ago. Anyway hope you’re doing better today.

Hi Shannon,
Sorry to hear you are still going through this. It is tough I know. How long ago was your surgery? I'm trying to find something that will help with my nausea but haven't and the anti-nausea meds I've tried haven't helped and cause side effects. Does the zofran work for you and do you take the 4mg or 8mg? I hope you are feeling better today! Praying for you and all of us to recover soon.

I used Carafate and my nausea started feeling a little better. Nausea isnt all the way gone, but its better.
Lets all pray for one another and continue to be faithful. This season is all part of God's plan. I have been depressed at times as well, but lets try and be positive and believe in one another. Lets encourage one another as we all get through this dark time. I don't wish this upon anyone. One day we will all be back to feeling 100%.
Prayers continue for all people in this forum!!!!!

Hi Johnette
I am on day 15 post op so its still very early for me. My doctor gave me Zofran 4mg. It half works, but it's better than nothing. The nausea comes and goes now during the day, but i haven't thrown up since Saturday. It usually disappears in the evening. When my nausea was bad, nothing helped it. I prayed multiply times a day for God to help me. I wouldn't wish that on my worse enemy. I lost about 13lbs, and got weak. All my tests showed everything was fine though. I have been getting mild heartburn now after eating so i've been taking Tagamet and it's helped. I Still don't have a appetite during the day. I still drink Pedilyte to help because i'm borderline Hypoglyimic (sorry for my spelling) I get low blood sugar. I had that problem before my surgery. My appetite comes back at night though. It's weird. Nobody tells you that this is a tough surgery. I had to have mine out though cause it was causing problems.
How long has it been since your surgery? I'm sorry, i'm bad at remembering things. I pray everyday for everyone on here that we will feel better and recover. I hope you are having a good day.

Hi John,
Sorry to hear you're still dealing with the nausea. It's awful isn't it. I took carafate to help heal ulcers they found after I had the gallbladder surgery. Maybe I can try it for the nausea. My nausea and feeling sick to my stomach pretty much persists all day. I've been eating ginger chews, peppermint (which help for a moment but not long) and tried other anti-nausea meds but they haven't helped. How long has it been now since your surgery? Are you able to eat more normally now?
I agree, we have to stay positive that this will pass and we will recover. People do get better, that's what keeps me going and trying to not get too low. Prayers to all that we will recover soon!

Hello,
I'm happy your nausea gotten better and are you able to eat more at night when your appetite comes back? my surgery was about 8 weeks ago. I do feel hungry and want to eat but my nausea and the sick feeling in my stomach persists pretty much all day. I am able to eat small portions at a time but I always feel sicker after eating. I eat bland foods. Hoping it will get better soon! Just try and keep positive we will recover as others have, its just taking more time. Take care. 😃

Hi Shannon,
How are you feeling?

Hi Johnette
The nausea is still coming and going during the day. Maybe thats why i don't have a appetite during the day. I Still wake up with a lot of anxiety. I Don't know why. I still get tired real easy. I've also been finding myself get a lot more emotional especially when my husband leaves for work. He works 10 hour days, usually he works 8-9 hours, and he's been working 6 days a week to bring in extra money.
I was getting mild heartburn and started taking my prilosec again, but i've noticed when i have been taking it the past couple of days, my nausea kicked up a little more so i'm gonna switch back to just Tagamet and see how i do.
I go back to work next week. If it were up to me, I would wait until i am completely better, I have no choice. My husband is working extra hours at his job, but we can't make it on one income. I used up both weeks of my vacation, and i'm not getting paid this week that i'm out. When i go back, I will have been out for 3 weeks. I'm nervous about getting back in a car because of the nausea. I haven't been in a car in 2 weeks!
Other than that, I watch tv, and keep my front door open during the day so I have some sunlight and fresh air coming in as it's finally fall here in the south. I even try to sit on my front porch when the mosquitos aren't bad. I also am newly saved so i have started to read the bible.
How are you feeling today? I did want to mention have you tried ginger root capsules? I take 550mg, and I take one in the morning when i first get up and it seems to help lessen my nausea a little bit.
I still pray that we all recover, and we will. Remember one day at a time.

Hang in there Shannon! I know its rough. You sound much like me. I had my gallbladder out 8 weeks ago today. Still nauseous and sick to my stomach and very tired. My anxiety is very up and down. I also sit on my porch, it's good to get out of the house and get fresh air. I also feel better when my husband and children are home. It's good to try and keep busy. Doing housework or running the kids around. I know this is very stressful but you will get better in time as others have. I just keep reminding myself that others recover and feel normal again. I pray we will recover soon! Best wishes.

I had a great weekend. Thanks for checking in. How about you?
I wonder if the cooler Fall weather will start making people feel better?
I am reaching for things on the positive side. 😃
One thing I try to do is surround myself in positive thoughts as much as possible. When a negative thought comes in my head, I hit the reset button.
I keep telling myself things will be back to normal soon, and its just a matter of time.
This is is season that God is wanting us to experience, and to believe in his plan. We need to learn from his plan.
Prayers for everyone on this post to have a good week.
John

Hi John,
I appreciate you positivity so much. I agree with surrounding yourself with positive things and people. Going through this has really made me look at life differently and not take things for granted like your health, eating normal and feeling good. We will all get better and feel normal again.
How are you feeling? Has your nausea improved and do you still have any pain? I hope you continue to improve every day!

I am doing good. I Had a good day yesterday. No nausea! Still get full real easy, and i get heartburn, but I rather go through that than what i was going through before.
I started back to work today. It's weird being off 3 weeks, then going back. So far today i'm just exhuasted. Nausea is at a minimum. I know my body is still recovering so i am not pushing myself too hard. Baby steps.
I thank god everyday that i continue to get better.
Hope you have a good week.

Great job getting back to work Shannon. I think getting back to work may even help distract your mind from focusing on symptoms/etc.
When I went back to work, I felt better because of my mind being occupied.
Hang in there and just take it easy and listen to your body.
Glad to hear nausea is staying away. If nausea is at a minimum, its tolerable.
Prayers!

Thanks for the positive thoughts Johnette.
My nausea comes and goes. When I do get it, its probably at a level 3-4, which is tolerable for me. I feel much better than I did a few months ago, Each week has been improving.
I just look at the positive side, because my nausea is not at a level 8-10 any more. Initially I was extremely nauseaous, where I couldnt eat.
As far as pain, I luckily haven't really encountered any real pain.
The main post-op symptoms I had were Nausea and Fatigue.
I am so thankful for this post, so we can all discuss with one another. We can also be sounding boards and let each other vent, and encourage one another.
I continue to pray for everyone on this thread.
Thanks
