Nausea and vomiting on Azathioprine

i was diagnosed with UC in April this year and currently taking prednisone and Azathioprine. My specialist is reducing my prednisone dose while slowly upping my Aza dose. I've been on Aza for 4 weeks now and things started off well but the last week I have started really bad nausea and vomiting which starts around 2 hours after I take the tablet and lasts for around 2-3 hours. I use to take the tablets in the morning after breakfast but due to the vomiting I changed to after dinner so it doesn't effect my work life. I always take after food but it doesn't seem to make a difference.  Day 9 and I'm struggling and feel like I'm at breaking point. Has anyone else had a similar experience? My specialist has just suggested seeing if the side effects subside but I'm over it.

Sorry if this response isn't very helpful but I did want to mention that the same thing has just happened to me.  I was put on 50mg of AZA 5 weeks ago and all seemed fine, I did not experience any side effects.  Then the dose was increased to 100mg/day yesterday and I have just spent all night vomting.  I did not even feel sick, just woke up at 2am with violent vomitting which I can only attribute to the AZA.  Either the side effects have now kicked in from when I started taking it or the increased dose has caused it.  Woke up this morning with a blinding headache and just feeling awful!  I just don't know what to do now, don't want to spend another night vomitting but I am taking it for Behcets Disease which has caused multiple pulmonary emboli so I am between the devil and the deep blue sea so to speak sad

I realize I am late responding, but I just found this post.  I have never vomited and had such severe nausea in my life.  Three weeks of it.  I was living on popsicles and, when I was brave, bread.  I had emergency buckets around the house.  I didn't think it was my meds because I hadn't just started taking anything.  My doctor was at a loss.  Called my rheumatologist and he said to stop taking Azathioprine.  I was SO sick, I'm afraid to go back on any of my meds.  Tomorrow, when I don't have to bring the grandkids to school, I'll try taking some of my other meds.  I'm really afraid of getting sick again, so I pray it was the Azaioprine that was the problem.  These posts give me hope!
