Nearly there

Hi Everyone, I am nearing to my THR and I can say I am ready for it. I am hoping that there will not be as much pain, as what I experience at the moment. I have been sleeping on my back for at least 4 months as I couldn't lie on either side due to the pain. I have read some of the threads on here and people seem pretty positive. I have asked if I could have the sedation, and nerve block when I saw my anesthetist last week, he agreed, however, if they had a problem with the spinal I would need to have a general, so, Im fine with that, just looking forward to being out of this constant pain, have to say the nerves and butterflies are starting to kick in now for Tuesday. I just wanted to say this site has been a great help reading through other peoples posts, as we want as much information as we can get when faced with a major surgery. Thanks

Wishing you all the best for Tuesday!  I had mine about 15 months ago, and it was loads better than I was expecting. Now I hardly think about my hip. Just take it steadily, do your exercises, take your meds and rest when you need to.

    All the best, Judith

Thank you, Judith12644, I am looking forward to that daily grinding feeling with every step I take, to be gone. Or the slightest movement in a chair or bed, followed by that electric, bone grinding feeling I have. Its just terrible pain, my medication hardly cuts through it at the moment. 100mg slow release oxycodone, liquid morphine, amitriptyline, naproxen and topped up with paracetamol, Im afraid that's where I am now in waiting all of this time for it to be done. But I am rolling along in anticipation of the end, and life without pain. Thank you again for your reponse, its nice to know others know how it feels.

I remember that horrible bone on bone pain. It was an amazing feeling when I first walked post op, and that pain had gone. Not long for you to wait now, hope it all goes really well, Judith

    Dear Katleen,

warm welcome to the hippies forum ...

You are not alone any more, darling ---We have been there and know that pain -

Also how that pain will be gone after the surgery --

I found this is by far the most challenging part of the journey-

Unfortunately there is not much that can be done about the pain but try to breathe through it - As painful as it is , try to relax in to the pain ...

And come here any time okay - we are here to listen to you and understand what you are going through -

    big warm hug

      Hello Renee

Thank you for your help. Well I am sat in my hospital bed replying. Its all over, I had a great surgeon, the terrible pain I've endured for such a long time has now gone, it's been replaced by another one, but I'm on alot of meds. Not doing to well today, been feeling cold, hot, headache etc

I have been out of bed on my second day as I had the nerve block and sedation, and it was perfect. The general anaesthetic scared me more than the op it's self, I came back refreshed and unable to remember anything after the anesthesia room. I'm so glad it's done

Thank u for your support, it's just wonderful

      Well done Kathleen

Now take it steady and work at your bodies pace but remember that it is important to do the exercises so that the muscles are built up to hold the new hip joint into the cup position and give you the strength to stand and walk.   All rather boring but well worth doing!

      All the best,

      Richard

      Hello Kathleen,

?Well done, I'm so glad you are on the hippies side of the team now! Don't expect too much of yourself, you will be surprised at how quickly you are doing things anyway. Even just getting up and down from the chair, walking to the bathroom etc are therapy in themselves. Look forward to going home but make things as easy for yourself as you possibly can - you would be amazed at how often you have just sat down and want something else, and then have to get up to go and get it. Eat well, enjoy the TV and read some good books too!
