Neck Lump - somebody please reply?!!

In June last year I suddenly came down with a pretty severe case of dizzyness/loss of equilibrium. At its woes it lasted about a month, I steadily improved over time but couldn't work for 9 months. I'm back to work but still don't feel 'right'

At the time I was diagnosed with labyrinthitus but when I saw the ENT specialist he was dubious as my symptoms were not A-typical. All my ear test checked out fine.

The whole time there have been two constant things. The fine is a faint red ring on my left cheek about an inch and a half in diameter which I only notice since I was poorly. Not sure if it's relevant.

The second is that I can feel a lump on the back of my neck just to the right of my spine beneath the hairline. It feels kinda squidgy and I can move it a little. If it tilt my head to the side there is an audiable crack from this/near location.

I have had MRI and ultrasound which apparently came back normal ?! The weird thing is when I stand under the shower and press firmly on the lump it creates an audiable crack/pop in my sternum/collarbone area - as if something is rubbing or realeasing. I've had people stand next to me when I do it and can hear it even with shower running. Surely this specific symptom can point to something? Can it be some kind of muscular knot and is there any way it can explain what happened to me last year.

It is hard not to speculate I know. Don’t think it,d be Lyme.  When is your appointment?

Been for blood tests this morning.  Not managed to speak or get in with doctor yet but I did ask the nurse to check the ultrasound results.

It said there was a sebaceous cyst measureing 2 x 1cm - but that’s all I’ve managed to find out as yet.

Is it possible this cyst became infected last year and cause my dizzyness/disorientation symptoms??!

    .??

Had the blood results back - all coming back fine other than my vitamin D which was 18 - doc says this might be cause of fatigue.

I’m a little sceptical to be honest as my vit d was fine on three tests last year - my thinking is that another overlying condition has caused it to decline.

Yes I wld be skeptical too.  I keep up my D levels well and doesn’t make any diff to my dizzy stuff.   Lack,of D in people who DONT have our condition cld  make them tired etc. But that’s about it.  I have learned that regular GP's have very little knowledge of us and learned somewhere that they don’t actually study it in their medical training so they are just playing hit and miss!

Have you been diagnosed with something at all??

I’m beginning to wonder if it could be something autoimmune like lupus.

I have a hell of a lot of the signs - even the skin trouble and the mark on my cheek- and I’ve read it causes depleted vid D  and the fact I seem to ‘’flair’ and have good and bad periods of time.

I’m more determined than ever to get to the bottom of it.

Not really just 'Chronic Disequilibrium'.  Ridiculous eh?  Have you ever looked at the VEDA site? Vestibular Disorders Association. They have a wealth of information. Based in US. Also have a FB Page.

Well I’ve had - desequilibrium since a camping trip in July 16.

It put me in bed for weeks but slowly got better.

It’s still there though all the time like I have had three/four pints.

Still not really found an explanation. I’m no longer stressed about it. Despite all this I left my job and launched my own business (I wasn’t enjoying my employment so I decided to eliminate that stressor) and it has gone really well, but I’m fighting it daily.

They initially diagnosed labyrinthitus but it just never improved (or at least not fully) and when I saw the ENT specialist he didn’t think I had had labyrinthitus. I had full testing on my ears / balance ect and they could find nothing wrong other than a slight imbalance in right to left ear responses.

I’ve looked at the various vestibular disorders but I don’t think it’s any of them.

My gut still says it’s connected to my neck with the various troubles I’ve had in that region.

I’m considering going to see an osteopath privately and getting X-rays done to see if he can see any problems with disks Ect. I’ve been in email contact with one and he quoted me £150.

Just be careful, with Osteopaths, a really good one won’t manipulate your next if you have problems with it.  Also tbh if the MRI didn’t show anything wrong with your neck bones etc it’s a,lot of money for a regular X-ray to tell you the same.

      Update -

When I went for bloods a few weeks ago the nurse swabbed a nasty sore/ulcer I had on the front of my neck. I had it for at least 6 months.

The doctors rang today saying they have done me a prescription for some antibiotics as it had come back in the lab as infection.

The thing is over the period I have been ill I have had almost identical sores in various locations on my body - plus the ongoing rash.

They are almost identical in appearance - small ulcerated lesions which take months to heal and then leave a small scar the size of a 5p coin.

It is possible I have had some sort of systemic infection this whole time that has been making me feel poorly or a condition that leaves me predisposed to these infections ? If so what conditions ?

Hard to say. If gp only says infection but not what type! Maybe go on line and search for infected ulcers and go from there

Doctor said she was prescribing me penacillin but that’s about all I managed to get out of her over the phone.

My surgery - to put it politely - are not very highly regarded in my eyes.

What if this cyst/lump in my neck is the same thing ? Or caused by it..

Yes it is. That's why if you don't think it's a bacterial thing in your system. You will need to research viral stuff. That's what I'd do

I’m not entirely sure wether it’s bacterial - fungal or viral - but I do feel fairly convinced there is something that is widespread.

If the lab has found that the sore/ulcer on the front of my neck is bacterial in nature and I have had identical sores elsewhere over the illness period - including one right over the back of the neck area where I now have the cyst/lump deeper down - surely this would point to something widespread/systemic but bacterial in nature.   - maybe I’m close to an answer.

The lab test has come back with staphyloccous aurous for the sore on the front of my neck.

The cyst on my ultrasound was 1mm x2mm just below skin - however the lump I can feel lower down the doctor now says is a gland/node.

I had one of these nasty staph sores right over that gland - where the little cyst remains.

    • Posted

Well sounds good inasmuch as they've diagnosed a staph infection and you're on anti biotic right?

It could well be a gland or node as dr says

    • Posted

      Yes antibiotics.

I’m also waiting for a dermatologist appointment.

With more answer come more questions - I’m now thinking considering I have had these same sores in various locations on my body including one right above the swollen gland on the back of my neck plus the rashes - that maybe this was the trouble all along and that maybe it has been some sort of widespread staph infection ?? Or a condition which causes such.

      Glandular fever?

The swollen gland in my neck is has obviously remained enlarged or slightly moved location or both thus explaining my strange neck muscle symptoms.

Not sure re Gf. You'd have look up symptoms of that. Wait to see the skin people and see what they say

      I hope so! Me too

It's a frustrating g business getting a diagnosis these days I know. have friends aswell going through same s**t with Dr's. Consultants etc etc.it's exhausting too

My life has changed radically since all this happened
