Need help with withdrawel

Posted , 9 users are following.

Hi, I have been taking DHC for years, I usually take 6 30mg every morning, sometimes 8, I don't take anymore throughout the day, I know to most people this seems such a low dose, but I'm scared, I want to stop, but I don't know how to be normal again  [sad]  I need to wake up without taking them being the 1st thing on my mind!! In the beginning it was amazing, I was on the ball, doing things, looking after myself, now I just sit around, I keep the house tidy etc..I WANT TO STOP, I have a Granddaughter now & this should make me more determined, I know my withdrawel won't be anywhere near as bad as some on here but I'm scared, I know I'm gonna feel rough, Ideally I would like to sleep for a week & wake up not needing them, I also need to put a stone & half on...Please someone help me, I'm NOT telling anyone as no one knows but surely I can get off them quick?? I need help PLEASE!!  I have 2 left & prescription 5 days away, I shall be telling my Dr but don't want to taper I want off them, I'm so so scared I look after my Granddaughter most days & can't be ill with her.....I stopped an addiction to 80-100mgs of oxycontin years ago, just taking solpadene & that was a hellish week or so, I've been told it's worse with dihyrocodeine sad Can someone please help me sad I hate this!!!

Hey James and Free... Just  listening to Amy, Rehab... Bit cheesy maybe but had to laugh! My fave song at the mo is Godnight Moon, Kill bill theme tune. Lovely song. Also, only just watched Tarantino's Django... How an earth did I miss this... I keep singing the theme tune. I found binge watching stuff helps withdrawal move faster. I once watched the whole of breaking bad in a few days when withdrawing, I swear. Also, Orange is the New Black and The Killing too, it all helps. Music does strange wonders for withdrawal. Oh and if you have not seen Beast of no Nation, do... It's amazing and on Netflix. I saw it a while back when coming off of 40 and it took my mind off things. You've more than likely seen it but thought it worth a mention. Any thing you think is worth a watch listen... Let me know guys. Realise it's not always easy when you have to work but it can be done, I've seen it and it's often when we are are about to crack that we are so close to peace, I was reeling a few days ago xxx

Just dropping by to say that I'm still opiate free. Energy not super but I'm hanging in there. A little trouble staying off the vino BC it's so easy to swap one thing for another. I've lost count of days... Gonna check my diary.

Hi, hope you are well? How have you got on with this? I Hope you managed to get off it and are doing okay?

I could do with some advice please, my partner has just got to the last of his packet and he's been taking 12-16 tablets a day! Started off years ago with a prescription of tramadol and has also been prescribed co-dydramol for many years which they have now cut. He's been purchasing dhc from a pharmacy online but hasn't tapered and is now out! He really needs to stop this and come off it but what can I expect withdrawals wise?! I'm so worried he's going to seriously hurt himself stopping like this?

Hope to hear from you/someone X

He won't seriously hurt himself (as long as he is not jumping off Tramadol) but he will hurt for sure. I've jumped from much higher numbers if it makes you feel any better and know of many who have jumped from needle habits. Immodium (loperamide) is the best thing for withdrawal it helps with more than just the tummy issues. Google the Thomas recipe and see if you can get what on the list, it's all helpful. Let me know how things are going... Here if I can help in any way.

      Hi,

Thanks so much for taking the time to message back! He's not jumping from tramadol but went from large doses of tramadol to dhc as thought he could then taper the dhc easier than tramadol!

Will have a look at the Thomas Recipe and let you know how we get on!

Thanks again and hope things are good with you?

      A-M x

No probs at at all. So is he tapering now? Or jumping from DHC? Keep in touch if you can. He can do this. After four days the physical stuff gets better but then you have the psychological stuff to deal with - sleep, fatigue, depression etc which is hard but doable. Let me know where you are at even if he is still taking them. It sounds like he obviously wants to quit. It will only get worse as more time goes on. I never bought online (only found about that here) I had them prescribed for genuine pain, still got addicted though. I have to be extremely careful not to slip but I do have support and a doctor I can talk to. It's a challenge when there is real pain. It's also a challenge when there's not. We're all the same. Good luck, hope to hear from you soon.

Hiya, he's jumping from dhc but obviously wanting to stick with it - he has none left so can't atm anyway! I got all the items for Thomas Recipe last night thank you and he started straight away. He was prescribed codydramol for long term pain but then tramadol after a trip to a&e which got him hooked back on that and the dhc. He recently stopped the co-d whilst using the tramadol and then dhc! Long road of years of mental pain and then physical pain - he's already prescribed benzos which i saw was part of Thomas Recipe. We were doing daily trips to mental hospital walk in Dec 15 after he had tried to come off benzos, I was 8.5 months pregnant then!

He really wants to stop all this for himself but also for his kiddies and me. I know he can just another roller coaster to ride...

Please to hear you're doing well and have a good network of support!

Will update soon & thanks again for showing support and help x

No probs at all. Some are now against using Benzo's in the Thomas recipe BC they are addictive but the odd one here or there can be very helpful during opiate withdrawal but you gotta be honest with yourself and Careful not to swap one habit for another. If he has them prescribed and is already dependent on them, I would tackle one drug/med at a time. Coming off Benzo's cold turkey after long term use, is not advised, in fact it can be dangerous and can cause seizures. If I understood correctly and he is still on the Benzo's he will need a proper taper plan to come off of them. I would not attempt to quit both at once unless a doctor is involved. If he is off them already (sorry I was uncertain), you run risk of him becoming addicted to benzo's again if he uses them for opiate withdrawal. Hope this all makes sense to you. Also, remember the L tyrosine is meant to be taken when the physical withdrawals stop and fatigue kicks in. Sure you read that. There is also something called DLPA that some find helpful when going through withdrawal. It's suppose to help a few things, energy included. It has also been suggested that it lessens the amount of opiate needed in users so is could for tapering also. I've just bought some to see if it helps with energy as low energy is an issue for me. Google it and see what he thinks. He can do this!

Thank you will look into that DLPA. Sorry to confuse, he's been prescribed diazepam for many years and although was briefly off it year before last, when he had the breakdown that December he was put straight back on it and will be for the foreseeable future - he needs that one for long term condition.

L-T is 2000mg from about day 4 or as physical conditions turn to mental only, is that right?! Don't worry about replying, you've been great thank you and I will read again to make sure I have this right.

Let me know how you get on with the DLPA another time too.

You're obviously doing really well and my other half is getting there for sure!

Thanks again and will message again with update

Glad to hear your other half is getting there. I will of course let you know how the DLPA works for me. I never mind answering questions. If I can, I will if I'm too unwell then I won't so don't worry if you ever feel like asking something. Hope your partner is doing well. The thing that works for me these days is that I tell my doctor everything re my meds.
