Need some advice! Reoccurring fissures on perineum - herpes or yeast? Pics included!

Hi there,

I've been experiencing these fissure for a while now, they come every month or two sometimes with discharge and itching/discomfort. The sexual health clinic has not given me any good solutions - my Herpes test came back positive once for HSV1 and then negative a few times after, all the other STD's come back negative. I've tested positive for thrush multiple times and get treatment for that which helps sometimes but this current episode has lasted 11 days so far and the thrush medicine isn't easing my symptoms which is leading me to believe they are not related. Could they just be a side effect of the thrush or something else?

If anyone has any advice or has the same thing please comment as it would be greatly appreciated. Also, I have an iron deficiency and am on a mostly keto diet, not sure if that might be a contributing factor. I do as much as I can not to irritate my genitals as well - I use non-bio detergent, probiotics & vitamins daily, yogurt, pessaries, thrush cream, coconut oil, no over washing with soaps, etc.. kind of running out of options here and desperate for some long term relief as I would like to stop the reoccurrence.

Thanks!

      Hi there,

Its hard to see in the photos because the quality was lowered after I uploaded them.. basically my skin in-between the vagina and anus has these tears/cuts or I get cuts on the skin near the entrance of the vagina.

Does that make sense? I will try to upload some more photos to help show what I mean!

Here are some more photos, I've circled the bits I'm referring to - hopefully this helps show the cuts a bit better.

i have literally this exact problem ongoing for about 6 months now! same area although i only usually get one or 2 tiny fissures that heal within a day. Doctors are also unsure, i have been treated for thrush, suggested dry skin/dermatitis, possible lichen scherlosus (not sure how to spell that haha) still trying to work out what makes mine better or worse

oh also to add i also have other skin problems like psoriasis and eczema on my arms and back and also my lips (face lol) get so dry they also create similar fissures/cracks - wondering if you have any similar issues elsewhere on your body?

      Hey!

I just saw your posts and yes my fissures look so similar! They also heal quickly but then reappear again a couple days later - so frustrating.. I also think it might be an early showing of LS but unsure of how to get this checked by my doctors as they keep excusing it for thrush. I have some eczema on my arms but nothing serious that cracks, although I moisturise religiously with coconut oil everywhere to keep my skin protected. I just got some tests back today and I tested positive for a Klebsiella UTI - I have had 3 UTI's in the past 6 months with a new partner after never having one for my whole life. I wonder if the bacteria in my urine is affecting my skin and causing the cuts? Desperate for some answers!

Oh man so frustrating! that could make sense that a lot of bacterial infections could cause that area to become irritated, but yeah its hard when the doctors dont seem to have any answers. Ive been to several and referred to a specialist gyno who assured me everything looked fine and to just eliminate anything that can cause irritation. I'm still not sure if it could be some kind of side effect of a viral infection too.. I just know i havent felt normal down there in over 6 months and although i can still have pain free sex it can sometimes result in more fissures its still really effecting my life. Its nice to know that im not the only one going through this though

I know right! I think there is a possibility that the urine infection might be irritating my skin but I've experienced these fissures before ever getting a UTI so I feel like there is another underlying cause. I'm going to treat the UTI and then if the fissures persist or reoccur I am going to request to be referred to a specialist - its just difficult during covid. Keep me updated if you find any answers or things that help stop the fissures from happening - so far I've started taking daily probiotics, vitamins, apply coconut oil twice a day, switched to non-bio detergent, don't wash my genitals with soap (only water) and don't wash more than once a day. Let me know if you have any recommendations! Its really nice to be able to talk with someone about this because I feel like they are having a real impact on me. Thanks x

ive also had these type of fissures from yeast infections. if u get recurring infections you may need to get a prescription stronger medication?

    • Posted

This is something I am looking into with my doctors as she thinks this may be the cause. Did going on stronger meds help stop your fissures? My results come back on Tuesday and then I might be put on a long term medication plan to treat the yeast infections. Ill keep you updated if it helps!

Did they give you any kind of treatment after they told you it was LS? Did it help with the fissures?

Ill keep you updated at to what my doctors say when more test results come back on Tuesday!

Ive been checked for sti's and they have came back negative

      hey!

im sorry your going through the same thing 😦

i would recommend making a list of all the symptoms youve experienced and how often you experience them, talk through them with your doctor or at a sexual health clinic and then ask for them to do a physical examination and to take swabs for stds, yeast, any bacteria and then also do a urine test. if they are brushing off your symptoms just be persistent until they agree to test you and if you still dont feel like your getting proper treatment ask to be referred to a gyno or vulva specialist! if nothing comes back from initial testing I would definitely push to get referred to someone more experienced because it might just be they dont know what they are dealing with. in the mean time try and do things at home to ease the symptoms - eat well, drink water, wash the area but not with soap or more than once a day, apply coconut oil or another natural oil, take vitamins/probiotics, dont itch, apply any medicated creams you might have to treat infections and just try and be patient. keep up with seeing doctors and you will hopefully find some answers, ill keep you updates with my progress too xx
