Negative blood test but herpes symptoms present

On June 19 (monday) I noticed some bumps on my vagina and thought it was just pimples from shaving. I later had unprotected sexual with my boyfriend (now ex) that same day. Later that day, i started feeling like I'm about to get sick and pain during urination (classic symptoms of herpes). Also, I was extremely stressed out from school as it was finals week (stress triggered herpes?)
Tuesday, June 20th, i went to the doctor just to make sure or clarify what I have, I noticed the bumps gotten worse, forming into blisters and it also multiplied. So then, when I made the trip to the doctor, he looked at it and said it was genital herpes. He ordered, swabs, blood test, and urine and tested me for everything (full std panel) just in case & also specially wrote, look for HSV 1 & 2. He also prescribed be with Valtrex 500mg to be taken 2x a day. That same day I got tested and started taking the meds. The meds didn't work until the 3rd or 4th day and by Sunday, June 25, he asked me to come in and confirmed it was HSV-1, he did not show me the lab results though but gave me some advice. Told my boyfriend at that time and asked him to get tested. His results came out negative. I'm so confused why he tested negative, when we were having unprotected sex 1 month prior to my outbreak & even the day of my outbreak.
4 months later, I got tested again (still waiting for results), & asked my ex to get retested and he said he tested negative again.
Oct 14 night time I am was having herpes symptoms again (pimple/ulcers) so I took valtrex (left over from last time) I went to the doctor the next day oct 15, to get another prescription again. It was a different doctor as I go to a walk in clinic and asked me why I need one so I told him I have herpes all that stuff he said he's confused! He said, here look, you tested negative for both HSV 1 & 2 so I don't know why you need to take valtrex.. I asked him is it because it was a new exposure and didn't show in my blood test?? He said possibly. I also asked is it possible that I was misdiagnosed? Again he said maybe.
TLDR:
1. Doctor diagnosed me for having HSV-1 because I was having an outbreak and prescribed me with Valtrex that worked but blood, urine, and swabs came out NEGATIVE for HSV-1&2. Also boyfriend got tested 2x (4 months in between) still negative. How is this possible?
2. Is it maybe the "anti-bodies" were new and didn't show up in the blood test? But I was currently having symptoms when I got tested.
3. Could I have been misdiagnosed with something else?

I'm not really sure! The STD panel lab results that the doctor showed me says:
HSV-1: absent
HSV-2: absent
then negative for everything else.

On what basis did your first doctor diagnosis you with HSV1? That is rather specific, so I'm assuming there must have been a test result to convince him of that. I would ask for a copy of your lab report. That way you can see if it's the IgG or IgM antibody test as well.

I'm assuming maybe the culture test and visual diagnosis?? I didn't see if the culture test even said positive. But I'm still confused on how it was negative on blood and bf didn't get herpes (which I'm also glad)

Better ask for your lab report, so that you know what's going on. A visual diagnosis alone is not reliable, in case that's all your doctor based his diagnosis on. Many things are possible with herpes and herpes testing, so I wouldn't worry about your partner's status until you confirm your own.

Hi there, was wondering if you got your IgG test results? I am in a similar situation - classic primary herpes-type outbreak, but no way to have gotten it (3-yr boyfriend tested negative). Positive IgM (I know it can be unreliable), but idk what else could explain my symptoms. I have to wait 3 months to get a new IgG test (which was negative after my "outbreak."

Hi there.
I have similer problem too.because of my fault me and my wife got infected with something.but all our 3months tests are negetive.we did igg test also.but everything negtive.but after this expouser i got small blisters and we both got flue like symptomps.my wife having terrible vergina burninig now almost 5 months.but no blisters in her vergina.doctors never prescribe any thing untill get test poditive.this is too hard feeling for her.even i have genetsl mild burnning and itchy all over the body.i had lots of antibiotics but couldnt help.please advise me..we will do 6 months igg test on march..thank you

I am in a similar situation. Tested negative at 5 weeks then at 10.5 weeks and at 13 weeks. I have off n on vaginal burning as well as a pinching sensation on my inner thighs. My skin feel like something is crawling all over and under my feet. To date I've had no bumps/blisters. I've been to 6 different doctors all said I don't have it and it's all in my head. I'm negative for all other stds. I must mention that I've consistently tested positive for hsv1. I've also done a swab even though I didn't have bumps/blisters and that's negative. I'm really confused. Can I still have it after all these negative results.

Hi there
Do you ever find out what was happening with you. My situation is still on going. I did another blood test and swab at 18 weeks. The swab came back negative for both hsv 1 and 2. I know that swabs in the absence of blisters could be pointless but I'm having an unusual clear discharge and that constant crawling vaginal feeling. Im still waiting for the blood results. Hopefully I get those this week.

I got my results back and it's hsv1 positive 4.0 igg and negative hsv2.... I'm at the point of believing I have genital hsv1

Did you say that you tested consistently positive for hsv1 in the previous post? Did u have u protected sex with your partners often or What was your encounter?
So what made you think you have genital hsv1? And after how long did you test positive consistently? I have been having these stupid symptoms of crawling itching, redness soreness without blisters on and off for the last last two months. I only had a protected encounter last briefly for 5 min over all. I am having these symptoms and they r not going away at all. I tested negative at 4, 7 weeks but both igM and IgG turned or negative.
I am scared to death I have spoken to many experts including 4 dermatologists and ASHA specialists and none of them believe it is herpes related. I am concerned and confused. It is just 9 weeks post exposure now. May be I need to wait for more time to get tested.

I had a 1x unprotected encounter. My first test was at 5 weeks anf i was positive for hsv1 with an index 3.5 and negative for hsv2 all the way up yo 18 weeks. I feel its ghsv1 because I'm having all these weird symptoms vaginally.
I am going to repeat the test at 26th week which is the 6 month mark.

im in Canada!! its a nightmare..to be honest if Medical system in Canada took this more seriously there would be less mental stress related to herpes. . ive had the classic hsv flu like symptoms with next to zero outbreak but bug bite sting tingle burn ants crawling numb wet sensations every day for 13 months. i believe i have HSV1 oral. no culture test due to no outbreak big enough. Public health will only swab test for genital hsv. Oral is not a concern to them. Go to family doc. and prescribed benedryl and face cream. went to family doc 11 times in 8 months. Did get the blood test IGG Elisa combo 1/2 non type ( get this .....réquisition from family doc but sample sent to Public Health Lab (5 day turn around) Did this test at 10 weeks. Negative...no numbers.. lots of stinging burning crawling daily..so at 15 3/4 weeks did a IGG.immunublot type specific and it was negative .no numbers. Paid $160 to life labs for test. turnaround time 14 days. At 30 weeks went to walk in as im tired of bugging family doc. He said its Exzema Herpeticum ( herpes) HVV6? . Did the Public Lab test all over again ( non type Elisa IGG) at 30 weeks. negative. crawling itching burning as in post herpetic nueralgia continues.. Family doc sent me to nuerologist who did motor tests and told me im fine enjoy the summer. then as im leaving he asks ablout the rashy spots on face and i tell him that is why i waited 8 months to see him.. ??? hello? End of appointment ! Then family doc has me set up to go to MS clinic in Jan.2020.. 16 months from start if this. why are resources being wasted. well maybe not but nothing helping because there is nowhere to go ! .. i want a western blot HSV test as it is 99 % accurate for HSV 1 and similar 99 for hsv2. Immunublot is only 80 to 90% accurate for hsv1. thus the problem. But university of washington is only lab in world to do western blot. they have test kits but will not ship out of country. we can print off forms and directions and take to the lab . the Canadian labs will only run the test if it comes in a kit even though they have all the proper stuff to complete the test!!? so now i have to drive to USA and find a lab to do the test without the kit and just draw and send sample.. Does it need to be any harder to get a simple lab test ? . only in Canada you say.....pitty
