Nervous but I know the truth

Hi Im 53 female and have been a heavy smoker..I have never had it formally confirmed that i have COPD. A doctor 5 yrs ago sent me for an Xray but I never went back for the results.

I have all the symptons and some days are great and I am fully of energy. Other days I get up at 8am and my lungs come alive at 11am. I have a cough etc. I have noticed my breathing is getting worse and of i get out of breath. I went on Holiday and I bought a blue inhaler and I bought one from Boots Chemist in the UK. No still not seen a doctor. The cigs have to go and I am not really smoking them I light them and put them out.. i know waste of money. Okay support needed. How well can i get again quitting smoking and exercise daily. I am normally healthy and I can walk steep hills. I only use the inhaler recently but have 4 in stock. Doctors...I really dont want to go for a lecture etc. Any support advice welcome

I don't know Lowry, it's quite rare to have it in your early 30's, I don't need inhalers or anything yet but I do cough up clear sticky mucus several times a day as horrid as it sounds

I have good days and bad, today was a good day and yesterday was a bad day.

Even though I believe I have mild COPD I'm still able to play football and run every day but I get up of breathe quickly and fatigued. I was before a pretty fit guy considering I smoked but never got out of breathe like Ido now.

I was mate, I've got moderate copd but because of previous missed appointments she didn't have an inhaler what you're supposed to use during the spirometry cos she didn't think I'd show up ha, she said my results could of been mild, but moderate anyway, but I don't get breathless, I'm an able person, might be cos I'm 32, in years I'll probably find I'm knackered makin bacon an egg on toast :-) :-)

Spoke to a lad at work recently, his wife's little sister has cystic fibrosis, she has 20% lung capacity and is on the transplant list, saw a picture of her, good looking girl, she's a few months short of being 16, makes you think!

Hi, I'm 64 and was diagnosed with Copd two and a half years ago. l posted previously because at my last copd check my results were better than the previous year. Saw my GP today and he confirmed that they are better so the COPD is still mild. The best thing you can do is to stop smoking and see your gp. l know its not easy to stop, l stopped 10 years ago by cutting down until l was smoking one a day !!!!. Then gave up. This illness can be managed but you have to give yourself the best chance, by stopping smoking and getting the proper medication from your doctor.

There's a 5:37min clip of allen Carr on YouTube, it's about the easyway to stop smoking, go and watch it, I know you've quit for 10 years, but he'll remove your desire to smoke, search for allen Carr! His book is good too!

I just watched that Allen Carr video and all I have to say I WOW!!

I liked what he said about the nicotine patches and gum and how can you help someone's addiction by supplying them with the same drug but in a different form...so true!!

Hi. I'm 51. Diagnosed with COPD. Had trouble climbing up hills, even running errands. I take the blue preventer and the orange cortisone inhalers. It helped but I was freaking out - hearing myself breathe. I never smoked (but I've heard that stopping halts damage). I got something done that I feel has turned back the clock in years. ora at lightyourlives dot com.

I go to the gym now pretty much every day. I walk several fast-paced miles per week. I no longer cough all day. My Pulmonary Specialist is amazed. I want to help others feel better. I got my life back.

    That's very commendable Lowry1234.

Taking control of what goes into our bodies is the key to feeling better and you're taking advantage of that. Well done!

I felt compelled to take it a step further and use something else that's changed my life. I went from laying in bed most of the day to life as it should be. I see the COPD numbers out there and love to share ways we can all live better. I realized I really DID have things I still wanted to do in life.

Do you feel like that too?

    Hi

I'm the same have copd but not on record.

im 45 and have had it 2 years, gave up smokimg and run 5 miles evefu day and since this ferl so much better.

Keep away from common cold thow, got one at christmas and woke during night totally blocked up a big cough and was clear again all that extra mucas from cold. That was a frightening experience. But I'm afraid of being diagnosed by the doctor as it then will go on record, and then all the forms we fill out during are lives ie life insurance for a morgage that question . Your health . Or going for a job who will employ anyone with copf. Ive read a lot about copd and its come a long way specially in America, and its not a beath sentence. Good luck to u all
