New man on the forum

Hello all

Just thought I would introduce myself, I’m Richard aged 38 married with 3 kids and seem to be one of the few men on this forum, but I have yet to be diagnosed with Fibro or M.E.

It started in June this year after a RTA, I went to the docs after the terrible pains in my limbs wouldn’t go, feeling tired and achy, depressed. The doc ran loads of blood tests and I was diagnosed with Underactive thyroid and high cholesterol.

I was a bit shocked at this because I’d never had anything wrong with me before, but I looked it up and thought, oh well sounds like the pills will sort me out and I’ll go back to living a normal life. But I don’t seem to be getting any better, in fact I would say I’m now worse.

I’m currently on all sorts of meds which include the usual, Levothyroxine, Tramadol, Amitriptyline and Simvastatin for my cholesterol. It’s a wonder I don’t rattle when I walk! (That’s when I can walk).

My doctor now seems to think I have Fibromyalgia or M.E, but like many on this site I’m having to go through all the tests, which seems to take time. The docs been really good and does seem to have some knowledge and understanding of this condition, after all I’d never even heard of it until he said that he suspected that’s what was wrong with me.

Looking back before the RTA, I had been under a great deal of stress with work and personal life but being wrapped up in it all, I think the adrenalin must have kept me going. I can now see that I already had some of the symptoms, feeling low, tiredness all the time, lethargic, loss of memory, emotional (I hate to admit this but I could cry at the most stupid things)

I just feel rubbish all the time, my legs and arms are the worse, aching constantly and I’m unable to sleep properly due to the pain being so severe that I can’t get comfortable. I can’t walk for more than 20 metres without having to stop and rest.

To date I am now waiting for an appointment to see a rheumatologist after being discharged from Physiotherapy and seeing at Orthopaedic surgeon who both said that I needed to see a rheumatologist and that they suspect Fybro.

I can’t believe how my life has been turned upside down in such a short period of time, 12 months ago and had lots going for me and was really active with walking my 2 dogs and running a paranormal group had a great job and family life, now all my spare time is sat feeling sorry for myself in pain and tired.

Work has been really good with me and understand that I can’t get up sometimes in the morning so have allowed me to work flexi time to fit in when I feel well and have made loads of adjustments for me so I can carry on working.

My poor wife has been great and understands that I feel rubbish and knows when I’m having a really bad day. However the worse thing is that I feel such a fraud sometimes. I seem to have bad days, then I have what I call wave days, these are days when I’m up and down. One minute I feel fine and think thank god I’m cured, (you know like just after a cold) but then the next minute I’m in great pain again.

I seem to suffer from the pain in my legs constantly which effects my walking, but I feel worse when it’s in my arms too, I can’t even hold the phone to my head on my bad days, all I want to do is just lay down. I then get depressed which seems to make it worse, so I end up going to bed and writing the day off as a bad one.

Anyhow, I’ll sign off for now has I seemed to have gone on a bit, just glad to know that there are people who understand how I feel.

Richard

    Hi Linda

Thats good news for you! About time they recognised you need some help and so you get some me time. Would get my knitting needles out but nothing to knit for at the moment. Might do some crocheting instead lol. Think your right about our toes getting ready for the cold damp months. Someone told me we were going to have a heatwave in September. Don't know when though as still waiting.

Going up to Preston on Friday and take my sons belongings in our van and deliver to his new house for his final year! It has gone so quick. He will be doing another year at Uni somewhere so he can apply to be a teacher. Depends where he can get in.

Spending one night on a site in Preston where we usually go and then going on to Burnley and staying two nights there. Been looking on line at hydrotherpy baths and there is a showroomm in Bolton so thought while we are that way go and check it out.

Hope you are all doing ok. Richard I do hope you felt well enough to go to work today and not do too much.

Lizzy hope you are feeling better today and nothing has come off the cold feeling you were having yesterday.

I've read all the posts, but by the time I'd got through them all, I'd forgot what to reply to and who. I suffer right bad from short term memory when I'm not good either. I read it but it just doesn't go in!!!!

Hope everyone is ok and are knitting well  ? I'll post more when I'm a bit better.

    Hi Tess

Yes thanks got letter done. Just notifying my Gp about my specialist appt. Thought I should rather than him getting a letter from the specialist and not knowing anything about it. Couldn't face going & telling him in person as I feel I'm always there at the moment and I think he thinks theres nothing wrong with me.

Laura went back to school yesterday, Peter on wednesday, Vicky next monday and Alison is off to Spain for a week and then back to Loughborough Uni for her 2nd Year. So next week the house is going to be very quiet.

Half way through knitting a scarf my fingers seem to be working Ok so thats good news.

Went for a walk round the local lake last night it was such a lovely evening and I felt better for it, maybe I should be walking later on in the day rather than in the morning. I walk 3 miles most days. I daren't stop I think its whats keeping me mobile.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hi Lizzy

My eldest son did his degree at Loughborough Uni and did Computer Course.

Its good that your fingers have been alright for the knitting. Was a lovely warm night. Stewart and I sat outside on our garden swing until twenty to eleven. Did have the patio heater on though to keep warm.

Your right about the walking keeping you mobile. I feel the same and try and walk somewhere most days and also doing my exercises help. Really don't feel like doing them some mornings but have to force myself.

Linda, Di, Richard, Brian, hope you all ok today.

    Hi Everyone

A friend today asked me if I wanted a go on there walk/jogging machine this morning, well it started off as one of those days where you feel normal so I decided why not. Well I know why not now  Oh why did I do it  I was only on it for 6 mins at a gentle pace. :x My hip is now agony. sad sad

So what sort of day has everybody else had.

    Hi Lizzy

We all do things we shouldn't then pay for it later! Hope your hip is not giving you too much pain now.

I have had a busy day trying to fit all Chris belongings into the motorhome on top of our things we will need while we are away. Was like doing a jigsaw trying to fit all his bits and pieces in to take to Uni.

Like you I am going to have a quiet house next week. We come back from being away on Monday! Then on my own for four nights as Stewart is on his night shift. No Chris to keep me company, will have Claire's rabbit for one more night and then she is back from hol next tuesday at 7 in the morning. She has gone to Gran Canaria where she is getting a lovely tan she tells me. She rang tonight to check up on the rabbit.

Well Stu has taken Chris into Peterborough to go clubbing with some friends so he won't me back much before 3am. Got a key but know doubt will wake up when I hear him come in.

Well going to my bed soon as feel really tired today.

    Hello Everybody.

I hope you all had a good week last week. Wishing you all a good week this coming week.

Tess hope it all went well moving your son back to Uni, My daughter went yesterday and her Granparents are visiting her today they only live 2 miles away from her accomodation.

Di I hope you are feeling better and that you are managing to do more things. Wishing you a good time for your hols. May I ask why are they doing a sleep test? My mum had one a few years ago as she had convinced herself she had that sleep thing where you just drop of to sleep at any time. It turned out to be the menopause, four years she suffered before a nice young lady doc said I think it could be the menopuase would you try HRT and she was so much better after that.

Linda are you managing to unwind from your hetic weeks, I hope so.

Richard I hope life is treating you well?

Ses and Lindy hope you are OK.

    Take care all.

    Hi Lizzy and everyone,

No unwinding for me I`m afraid, Lizzy :!: Got home Fri afternoon to no electricity, we are now on a generator waiting for EDF to repair the fault somewhere between our`s and next door sad Had to rush around clearing the meter cupboard and making all the trailing cables safe for Ray to move around :!: To top it all I have the drive to Mum`s today to take her to the Dr. On the plus side the tips that GP gave me last week for taking the Amitriptyline to help my sleep pattern seem to work, getting about 6hrs a night now instead of 4/5 still waking several times but going back to sleep again smile

Hope everyone is doing ok and you have all had a good weekend.

    Hi Lizzy,Linda, Di & Everyone!

Got back this afternoon and read your posts.

Linda why does it always seem to happen to you. Hope they get your electric sorted out soon. Its good the amypitripline is working for you with your sleep. Sorry to hear you had to take your mum to the doctors. Is she ok?

Lizzy yes got Chris moved in ok! We then went on to Burnley and stayed for two nights. On the Sunday went to look at some baths. Then went into North Yorkshire for a walk. My legs do ache today though! Going away again next Monday to Cornwall and Lands End. Going to have to set out early in the morning for that one. Stewart was given back his seven days holiday he took the day before he burnt his arm.

Di I hope you have a restful time in the cottage. You deserve a break with what you have been through. Hope your sleep test goes ok and you do manage to nod off!

Richard & Brian hope you are both ok.
