New mouthgaurd for tmj and ear clog

Posted , 2 users are following.

i have tmjd and it is annoying. I got a new mouthgaurd and now my ears clogged. I think it is related thats why i got a mouthgaurd initially but they wear down. They are soft so they dont hold very long. Anyway it is spurring ear issues, weird sensatioms in ear and clogging and im at wits end. I have had this before and it did go away but unsure why this is haporning all over. And it is making me a xious because it feels so weird and makes weird tinnitus. And the ent is useless leaving me with myself to wait it out. So draining.

The maxillary surgeon just says it can happen give it ten solid days and should improve. Any change on bite messes things up. Its sporadic when the tmjd gets bad as well.

I just feel broken.

Bite can not really cause the ears to clog. Could be allergies see doc and have ears checked,

Yes great idea looking at your ear also may be a cold or connected to pressure from weather.

I have TMJ and have an appt to see a Tmj specialist next week. I have felt like my ear both hurts and at times it has a full like feeling. I just assume it's all related. I'll just have to see what my dentist had to say about it all.

Yes it messes up the ears awful! Cloggs them, tinnitus. I hate it. And it takes a while even with the mouthgaurd to calm down,i have had it before. It just makes me feel terrible. The eustatian tubes get pushed from the over exterted jaw muscles.

Good luck.if you dont have anxiety too it does make you get it because of the discomfort. I havent done the botox though because my specialist has tmj as well and didnt feel it was a good idea although other people request it. It lightly paralyzes the muscles. Doesnt sound like something i could handle haha, its weird im not under stress either, just some very bad habit my body likes to clench.

I am a clencher from way back. haha. But I have never gotten TMJ from it. And I can not keep a mouth guard in my mouth. I've tried all kinds. And of course I'm under a lot of stress right now. And I am so mad at my dentist that I had an appointment with because he cancelled on me two days before our appointment. So now I have to wait another week while I'm in pain. I looked around for another dentist and there is only one other and he is booked solid for even longer. I hope his work is good because him cancelling on me really bites. Hahaha get the pun!

Omg this mess is making spasm in my ear at times. Mycoclus something from the jaw. I did find the same thing in another site but i cant seem to,properly register for it so i just read thru it.  I was very stressed because ten days ago i awoke with this dry eye syndrome and i cant even make tears so ive been clenching away im sure asleep poorly coping with that niw causing this. I would be a lot calmer of doctors where more proactive. They dont fully explain much and send me on my way. And they really dont always know what to do. And im the one in this body trying to guess who to see. Very difficult. My gp tends to say i dont know thats not my feild and the ent says im not sure i do ears, and yes ear is effected but younhave the jaw and the maxiallary surgeon is like thats so awful im sure it will calm down it can get bad and they dont know eye stuff. Wow that was a mouthful. So bottom line is im anxious iver all this and it is frustrating and a bit scary. No one told ke i needed to go to medical school to be my own keeper. Mhm

you meed to see a orafascial dentist. Or a maxillary surgeon. A regular dentist isnt so good to help you at all. Although im seeing a maxillary surgeon and well still issues. I was good for ten years  with them though. This is tmj 20 years after diagnosed.anyway, for splints  They make different kinds. The soft splint for lower teeth would stay in place. I dont know which you use. And they do botox, which inthink is extreme that paralyzes  the muscle enough that you can clench, some will go overboard and redo your mouth and whiskt they do all that im sure the tmj would sky rocket. I wish i knew how to calm it but obviously i dont  because mine a bit angry in there now. Its stress related but also physical anatomy mixed together. My husband grinfs his teeth away..he recently got caps and he gets nothing, no tmj, no pains hes all good. So i didnt get so lucky like that.

They just need to have a place that cares for the whole person. Theynused too. It was a hospital but here i live they are trauma centers and that wont do much for me.

I don't know if it's true but I've been told internist are good for caring for the whole person. Personally I have a wonderful GP. If I were to complain it's just that he refers me to specialist too much. But if your GP is saying he doesn't know and is not referring you to the proper specialist then it may be time for you to look for a new doctor because he's not doing his job. He is the one who should be looking out for your total care. He is the director of your health. All information about your health should go through him. When one specialist has used all of his knowledge then you go back to your GP and he suggest another avenue to take. Good luck on all of this I know how frustrating it can be.

Thank you i completely agree. I would love a gp who was more complete. Hard to find here. My friend has one who really thinks things through and helps her. Not all doctors stink but theres a good percentage that are lazier and it can make or break the patient at some point. I have been contemplating going to a hospital just so costly. I have never done that except to give birth or get stitches. But at least maybe theyd guide me. Cant go today we are in a blizzard though. Ear spasms thump twitch thing is maddening. I was already nervous that i suddenly developed dry eye syndrome. Tmj wouldnt effect the eyes. My ent, although well schooled tends to go with allow the body to heal itself theory. Thats what he said with the eustatian tube dysfunction after i had the flu in december.

I very much appreciate your replies. Thank you very much for taking out your time to help me. It is frustrating. Google seems to think all doctors are very prudent and diagnosticians lol.

You know I have dry eye too and it's not really that big of a deal or shouldn't be. My eye doctor told me to take 1100 mg of Omega 3 daily and that fixed me right up. Unfortunately for me I had to quit taking the Omega 3 because I got another disease that I had to start taking predisone for and he told me not to take the two together. But managing dry eyes are no big deal under normal circumstances.

I have issues with the fish oils i have tried. I have health issues aside from this, im seeing a rhumatoid dr tomorrow to rule out some auto immune thing. The dry eyes waxes and wanes. I think too many issues going on at once and i set off tmjd kinda badly, i just want it all to go away now and my jaw and such to be normal again.  Frustrating

I'm with you. It really sucks when you have multiple health problems and then it gets difficult to treat one because of the other and so on it goes. I'm sorry your having this issue.

Uodate. They send me to a rheamaroid dr where i spent two hours being examined and scanned and took 19 viles of blood. Results are in two weeks. Too intense for me and taking all that blood i felt looking way too deep but i am not a doctor. Saw a maxillary surgeon again who refitted the. mouth splint and gave me a script for tmd physcial therapy. Which i start today. And oddly the rhematoid doctor noted to go to the ent saw ear wax imoacted. Mhm the ent wrote me off just last month as fine. That bugs me if it all is that simple and maybe my ent is a jerk. But today i now go back to note to remove the ear wax imoaction and hooe he does so accordingly. If he says im fine and is the only one who cant see the wax then i need a new ent. The other doctor said it is there.

A tiny vent here is now im anxious as im going back to the same ent who rushed me out the first time. And i have been argueing with him in my mind as i await the appointment, how cruel this would all turn out that he could have cleaned my ears out and i never would have been so miserable for the past few weeks. Hopefully today he will do his job because bopping doctors is expensive, time consuming and more waiting to get in. Mhm

I think you're right about your ENT. He is worthless if he couldn't even find wax buildup in your ear. My son had this problem for years as he was growing up. I used to have to take him into the doctor on a regular basis to have his wax removed because it would affect his hearing. And in between doctor visits I would put his head in my lap and pour hydrogen peroxide in his ear let that sit for a couple minutes and then over the bathroom sink we would pour water in his ear to help wash out the wax the hydrogen peroxide had softened and then the water would rinse out the wax. He hated it he said it hurt to do. But that treatment was recommended by his ENT so it might be something you might need to do for a while as well. But definitely ask your doctor about it first. And if you have a sweet young man whose lap you can put your head in that's even better. LOL
