New pain at 9 weeks post op

hi hippies

i don't know what's going on but every time I stand up it's like Ive forgotten how to walk and takes me a few seconds to get my legs moving. When I do I seem to get quite a lot of pain in the operated hip area. I'm not sure if I've overdone the stretching in the pool or if I've got rid of my walking stick too early. I've booked a physio appointment for next week to see what they think. Does this sound normal?  It was all going so well 😕

I am 16 weeks post op and I have to steady myself when I stand and start to walk. I also had a tendon repair so that can be part of my problem. Once I get going I am OK. Sometimes I have pain though.

Hi Diane. What kind of tendon repair did u hsve? Was that after thr thr? I ask because i am having serious tendon issues at 7 months post thr.

They found I had a torn Gluteous Minimus tendon when they did my thr . I was having a lot of discomfort in my bursa so they removed it and found the tendon tear.

It takes a good year to fully feel like yourself. Do you have an ice machine? Ice that hip every night! I can't stress that enough! Use that walker! People do TOO much TOO soon!! Give yourself time.

??It's very normal. The brain has to make new connections to communicate movement with the new hip. The bones had been removed and the communication system to the brain also. Give it a few more weeks. Heeling is an individual processasmthe brain process the new joint.

Physio therapy will help you with exercises to help repair the connections muscles tendons as the bone heels and secures the implant. 🎄

    Hopexxx

    hi susan,

yeah,  it is normal ... you are doing more and might be overdoing it , which might cause stiffness and discomfort after resting ..

Pain however is a sign of something not right -- what kind of pain is it? and where do you feel it ...

great deal of the recovery takes place in the first two months, but complete return to normal takes longer. Bone around the metal parts is growing. keeps changing and remodeling for 1 to 2 years after surgery - this is why you might feel deep aches at times -

Have you had your post-op appointment with surgeon yet?

Please come back and le us know ho you are getting on, okay ..

    love to hear from you

    big warm hug

did the pain pill help?  Maybe the hot weather makes you swell up ..

I don't like it when the weather is too hot , but I live in Holland now and cold weather is very unpleasant for hardware in the hips -  I  feel cold all the time ....

Let us know what therapist said okay?  Probably all part of the healing process, sweetheart ...

      how are you doing otherwise?

      big warm hug

Yup Susan same here .. 9 weeks , stand up , have to get going like a motor that has stopped and it hurts !

Thanks hippies I knew I would get an answer here. The pain is only on standing not when sitting. I reverted back to painkillers and took some ibuprofen which seems to have helped. I'm back on the stick to keep the weight off it. I'm wondering if the problem is that I started swimming again and was doing frog legs with the breaststroke. I checked with the physio and she said it was fine but I looked on another site and it said no frog legs! I'll stop doing it and just do water exercises to see if it helps.

One step forward and two backwards sigh

Do you have a lot of pain? I couldn't be sure what pain I had after a few weeks so reduced the meds just in case I was masking it! Lol and behold the pain just wasn't there so I weaned myself off 😊

could be that, Susan ... might be too early to do the frog legs and breast stroke -  your body is letting you know in a subtle way, so you'd better listen to her eek-

Using a walking aid is also a very good idea -

no harm done .... sometimes we need to ush ourseves a little bit to find out where we are ...

how about : 2 steps forward, one step back

If you are taking less pain medication each week and you are faithfully doubg your exercises, I would think somewhere in the 12 week range. It takes longer for weight bearing joints than it does for ahand or wrist.
