new to ED

Just want to see what information I may gain from this subject. I am 72 and in very good phyisical health. Had laser prostate surgery last June for BPH not cancer. All had been functioning normally soon thereafter. Now one year later my libido has taken a nosedive and I am not my usual horny self. I have been thinking that after fifty years of mariage maybe I'm just bored with the same old routime. My wife is not at all the adventureous type so cranking up the heat is out of the question. I am taking an antidepressant but the med is actually known to enhance sex and not the opposite as is usually the case. So I need some advise as to how to proceed with this problem.

James , I too am in my early 70's and have enjoy sex with my wife of 50+ years . I have been on consistent testosterone treatment for the last 10 years which I feel has helped my sex drive stay in high gear. As you know the aging male's testosterone levels starts depleting,  in a lot cases , in their 50's and 60's .. I would suggest you have  your T  levels checked out by your urologist .. Getting your  testosterone at the right levels will definitely change your life ..  I will add that I have check ups on a regular basis for my Testosterone and PSA levels .

Thanks for the info. I did have my testosterone checked about two years ago and it was okay. Maybe I should check it again.

Getting you endocrine levels checked definitely sounds like a good idea, especially since you've had prostate surgery.  Which antipressant are you taking?

Mirtazapine seems to have both increased libido and decreased libido as listed rare side effects, though there don't seem to be many hits if you google "Mirtazapine erectile dysfunction".  If your libido dropped shorftly after you started taking the Mirtazapine, then you might be one of the people where it doesn't help, or the prostate surgery might be causing problems, or it could be something else.

There's a forum here for Mirtazapine btw:

I'd talk to your doctor about getting your endocrine levels and blood pressure checked, and if everything seems fine, you could consider one of the ED drugs.  Plenty of men a lot younger than you take them.
