New to Prozac.....

Hi everyone, As the title suggests I'm new to Prozac, 1 week today to be precise. I would really like to hear some success stories (I find reading positive stories about a drug help me), they don't have to be in depth, just a simple .... 'yes they worked' 'took X amount of time to kick in' 'be prepared to feel worse at the beginning' etc etc. I know it's early days for myself but in the first week I've had one very good day but today feel pretty lousy... awful tight chest at the moment. All replies will be gratefully appreciated.....many thanks Luke

It takes about a good two months to feel better.  I’m so glad I hung on. It saved my life.  I had severe anxiety panic and severe suicidal depression.  I feel so much better. I had every side effect.  It was awful.  But, I’m able to leave my house and work and have a social life again.  Stick with it.  Patience is key. It’s the hardest thing when you are feeling so bad and you just want to feel better.  I’m also doing therapy in conjunction.

      Hi jennifer09197

We note from a recent post which you have made to our forum that you may be experiencing thoughts around self-harm. If we have misinterpreted your comments then we apologise for contacting you directly. But if you are having such thoughts then please note that you are not alone in this, and there are people out there that can help.

If you are having these suicidal thoughts then we strongly recommend you speak to someone who may be able to help. The Samaritans offer a safe space where you can talk openly about what you are going through. They can help you explore your options, understand your problems better, or just be there to listen.

Their contact details are on our patient information leaflet here: https://patient.info/health/dealing-with-suicidal-thoughts, which also offers lots of other advice on how you can access the help you may need.

If you are having such thoughts then please do reach out to the team at the Samaritans (or the other people detailed in our leaflet) who will understand what you're going through and will be able to help.

      Kindest regards

Hi jenn I'm feeling the same as you, I'm on 10mg p, and this is my 4th day, I have all the side effects, did you take anything for insomnia?

Barbie- How are you now? Today is my 3rd week and I am sooooooo tired.

Hi, I dealt with the insomnia.  I take .5 klonopin in the morning with a 10mg prozac.  6 hours later I take 2 10 mgs of Prozac.  I noticed at first I was super wired and anxious.  But, I’m on 3 months and my body has adjusted quite well to it.  I honestly never thought I would get through the side effects.  My anxiety and depression were still there for a good 2 months .  I would notice subtle changes every so often.  But, so subtle I thought the hell would never end.  Around week 8 I noticed a huge difference.  I sleep fine now .  Only take klonopin in morning.  I was so afraid of being reliant on any medication.  But, I can honestly say this saved my life.  Do I like that I have to take pills?  No ... but I was very suicidal.  No attempts just constant thoughts of wanting to end my misery.  I couldn’t see away out.

I don’t even think suicide anymore.  I’m happy, laughing, going out.  I still have anxiety.  Always have .  Since I was 8 years old.  But I am functioning again .   I can work . Not cry all day long, sweat, dry heave, vomit, diahrrea.  I lost so much weight.  When I first went on I lost even more weight.  But, I’m eating again.  I can eat anything I want now.  It’s nice to feel normal or what my normal is again.

I’m 42 and was anti medication for YEARS.  I can honestly say that I am so glad I stuck with it because the alternative would of been a home bound, anxiety, depressed leading to de realization person that is not me and this has really helped me.

It takes time .  So small changes .  I would call my friends crying that I was feeling worse and never getting better.

I promise it does get better you have to wait.  It doesn’t happen overnight.

Much love to all of us that suffer from this.  I have always said I would never wish this on my worst enemy.

      Hang in 💗

Oh and I noticed a marked difference when I finally went up to 30 mgs.  It was like night and day.  Right dosing is so key.

Jen I can't see your first reply because it says it's waiting to get moderated

My riding schedule is like this.  I’m sensitive to meds and Prozac is activating as far as depression meds go.  So I take 10 mgs Prozac at 6 A.M. and .5 klonopin with it.  Then in 6 hours I take 2  10 mg Prozac.  For a total of 30 all together.

If I took all at once it was like I did a bunch of uppers. My body got used to the side effects.  Over time they slowly started to diminish.  I took at the very beginning klonopin twice a day but I don’t need to anymore.

I’m okay, I get most anxious at night I noticed. Hard time sleeping and having weird dreams this week. But I think it might be extra stress. I recently I had to put my dog of 18 years down. So that didn’t help. Hopefully I’ll feel normal soon. I’m not to depressed anymore, unless I think of my dog, but that’s normal. Just the weird dreams and a bit of anxiety.

    HiLuke

I've taken Fluoxetine on and off for twenty years and during the times that I take it I always feel much better and back to my usual self. It does take a couple of weeks to build in your system and therefore you can feel worse before you feel better but stick with it!

    Hi,

Thank you all for your posts. I'm on day two and noticed my anxiety was worse today. I'm glad to know that this normal and will go away with time. Would anyone know of any good self help books I can read to help along with the meds?

I think I'm gonna quit fluoxetine and try something else, I can't take the internal vibration anymore, it feels like if I'm gonna get a seizure, even my brain vibrates, I read that it could be serotonin syndrome which freaks me out, will talk to my doc tomorrow.
