New to Prozac.....

Hi everyone, As the title suggests I'm new to Prozac, 1 week today to be precise. I would really like to hear some success stories (I find reading positive stories about a drug help me), they don't have to be in depth, just a simple .... 'yes they worked' 'took X amount of time to kick in' 'be prepared to feel worse at the beginning' etc etc. I know it's early days for myself but in the first week I've had one very good day but today feel pretty lousy... awful tight chest at the moment. All replies will be gratefully appreciated.....many thanks Luke

Heya I think been on Prozac for 2 month. started at 10 then went to 20. My depression was better but I was still getting a little anxiety at night. So my doctor bumped it to 30 recently. I still feel anxiety at night a bit, and I felt depressed tonight too. Is this normal?

Hi Luke. I'm almost 6 weeks in now. And it's definitely making one hell of a difference. Was slow to kick in, as we all want instant results, right? But at the beginning I felt overwhelmed like never before. Cried, felt trapped, thought the darkest of thoughts and there seemed to be no way out. Today I'm not dancing round the house, but the improvement has been enormous. Massive. Stick with it, and each day you get through is a day closer to feeling an improvement. Use the positivity in this forum. There are some great people here. Take care and hang in there.

    Hi Luke,

like you I am quite concerned , and very anxious regarding the initial, and prolonged? effects of taking Prozac.

However, before I texted this message to you I read the many posts , from these wonderful people who replied to your message.

These posts have helped me so much , mainly with progressive unknown aspects of this drug.

I have been on Prozac 20 mg for 2weeks followed by 40 mg for the last 3 and half wks. What I didn't realise is that when you increase the dosage you mess with the Serotonin balance , hence, 20mg to 40 mg.

This has happened to me and I thought I was really losing my mind, literally:

    Symptoms and progress::::

Yesterday was a bad day, but today has been up and down but, better than yesterday . The last few wks have been horrendous, but, now know the increase effectiveness. Like you I needed answers from everyone and everybody at the beginning and even from a few days ago!

The more you read replies from people who have actually taken, and are taking Prozac, then that really covers most questions ...side effects, dosages, support? from the medical profession??!! (not too helpful in my view because 'they' have never took Prozac!!

You will get better, and the advice and insight from this forum is excellent...... I have noticed that I can now type a bit more (only slightly!) with a calmer approach! however, 10 minutes ago I was crying with bad anxiety and depression.

Its impossible to totally analyse ourselves because we cant be objective, but my partner just told me that I am getting a bit better because I dont stay in bed most of the day like I used to, and I have actually planned things......and done them!!

I still feel very anxious and depressed, but what you really must think Luke is that Storms dont last forever, and, by keep reading this particular forum over and over again.....You will , without a doubt get better....Gill

I am new to prozac too. I started 10 mg. 4 weeks ago and two weeks later I started 20 mg. I haven't seen much improvement yet. I would love to hear some feedback about this drug (fluoxetine) too.

sorry I'm a bit lost here did you write this not long ago ,,,or 4 odd years ago ?

A lot of these posts are old. I assume many people drop by because they are nervous about what they are going through with the activation syndrome of Fluoxetine. They come here and post, then after the activation period winds down and the medicine starts working, they drop off because they are living life again. At least that is what I like to think 😃

Longtime prozac user here and I feel like it was a Godsend in a lot of situations. It is not a cure-all but is a very helpful weapon for me. It is very important to figure out the best dose as that it can make so much difference.
