      Hi Jean,

Is today ( 31st) the day you have your appointment with your surgeon? Please let us know what he said!

      Happy New Year! Betty

      Hi Betty

been to see the consultant he said it's still very swollen and warm....I could have told him that myself...... Anyway he agreed it isn't  doing as well as it should be at this stage.

he said he would normally have made me an appointment to see him in 12 months but he will see me in 2 months and if things haven't settled down he will investigate further....I have to ice it every hour  he said the bend was ok and straightening not too bad but something is causing the pain and bruising

i felt like saying derrrr I know that

anyway we will now see what happens at the February appointment brings

       thanks for asking

      Jean

It's good to have it confirmed with action to be taken if nothing changes. Hope it works it's self out soon. Hope you enjoy your New Years evening

      Thank you

Happy New Year  I hope 2015 is a good one for you

      Hi Jean,

Did he not have any idea at all as to what was causing the pain & bruising? Did he suspect an infection? It's too bad you have to wait another month or so to see if things settle down - that's what you've been doing up until the time of your appointment!

Well I hope it does settle down for you Jean and you will get a more satisfactory report in February. It's got to be very aggravating for you.

Happy New Year's Eve ! Betty

      Hi Betty

he just said some knees take longer to heal than others and he thinks most of the pain is from the sciatic nerve being damaged not the knee it's self

i asked the why is it the knee that hurt during the night ...he didn't answer that

i will just have to put up with it and see if it settles on its own,...if not we'll see what he has to say at the next visit,

      thanks for caring

      Jean

I must admit I came away very disheartened but also determined to be a pest if I don't think things are right
    • Posted

That's right - be a pest! It's your knee, not his! Can anything be done for sciatic pain? Fortunately that's one area I've avoided thus far so I'm not familiar with it. Do certain exercises help? Injections? Can they do surgery for it? ( not that you want to go through another surgery, but unless it got so bad it was interfering with normal activity)

So sorry for your pain Jean sad

      Thanks Betty

the sciatica is painful but nowhere near as bad as the Knee pain was

the Surgeon seemed to think it will settle down eventually ...so fingers crossed.....or knees ....lol

i will go back to my writing and take my mind off it ...this is NOT going to rule my life  biggrin

That's good you don't have to worry about insurance etc. I think you should keep asking. Don't hesitate if you're not satisfied with answers. They don't take it personally it will chivvy them up . Ask for another X-ray or even a second opinion

. It's tough, meanwhile you have the pain. Do you still have contact with the pain control nurse. It might be worth seeing if you can get an appointment with them.

did they mention going for a deep tissue massage sometimes that can help with sciatic nerve trouble.

I expect you have tried endless things. Hope you find some relief soon.

      Hello

I haven't really been offered anything ...just painkillers so I looked online for exercises ...but a lot of those involve bending the knees into shapes that mine don't bend at the moment.

i'll get there it's just taking a little longer that's all....as the saying goes ...".all these things come to test us."

at least at my age I don't have the worry of going back to work or any young children to look after which must be really hard .....I'm fortunate there as all mine are grown up.

Onwards and Upwards and A Happy New Year to one and all xx

Hi Jean can I ask did you use that loiton gel and if so did you find it was helpful?
    • Posted

      Hi

yes I use the Gel after I've exercised and it does seem to ease the muscles

and one good thing is it's instant relief ....for me anyway......whether it's the same for other people I don't know

it was reccomended on here so I thought I'd give it a try

i only use it on my calves / thighs and the back of my knee not on the actual scar...

I bought some and used it a few times but didn't find any difference, whether it was because my knee was so tight anyway. I might try it again as when I massage my knee this week it seems to reduce the tightness. My knee keeps giving way now as well si I sam using two crutches again? I thought that by five weeks they might be gone, or small I expecting too much.

I'm still struggling at 16 weeks

went to see my surgeon today and he said it shouldn't still be swollen painful  and bruised  ...... He would normally at this stage see me in 12months but he wants to see me in February and if it's still the same he will do some investigations

i just hope it's easier by then ...I couldn't face another Op

Oh that's not good Jean. I hope you get it sorted asap.  I don't think these surgeons have a clue about after operations.  It's like a workshop for them when they operate.   I think counsellors should be used for people who have this operation as it is complete emotional turmoil for people.

Yes I think everyone goes through the emotional stage at some point

I'm sure my knee will eventually get sorted it's just taking a little longer than other people's

I won't let it rule my life....

I'm trying to stay awake to see in the New Year.... I've been up since 6am after having a sleepless night I hope I make it biggrin

I know the feeling I have been up since 5, only get about four hours sleep at a time. I think we are all living in the twilight zone

I fall asleep ...wake up ....look at the clock ...and if I'm lucky I've had 2 hours.. So I read for a while then catnap again

Last night went to bed at 12.30, woke up at 1.30, loo, back to sleep till 4, nodded off again till 5. Wouldn't it be nice to sleep for 7 hours straight??

This all sounds familiar. Last few days I've been nocturnal. Power napping in the day and wide awake at night. Trying desperately to change itaround before I start work properly

it's hard to force yourself not to have naps I find by the end of the day I'm weepy and a bit shaky. Won't go down to well with the customers in our shop if I'm slumped in the corner at 4pm

I feel like that at the start of the day, don't know whether it's medication. I have been sleeping on the sofa and I tried the bed last night and managed to sta there till 5. I got up went on sofa till 7 and then back to bed. I must have dropped off For half an hour.  This really isn't good. I will have to try and break the cycle

You can always put a ..." DO NOT DISTURB FOR 30MINUTES "notice around your neck  lol

seriously this lack of sleep isn't nice

I think you have to grab sleep when your body tells you too....and let's face it ....who are you hurting by sleeping when you need too....
