Newly diagnosed

I have been suffering for many years with chronic pain and was recently told that I had osteo arthritus.  I asked my GP to refer me to a pain management clinic and got an appointment within two weeks!  Couldnt believe it and furthermore saw the specialist today who confirmed that the reumatologists were wrong and I had fibromyalgia.  I am so relieved that someone has finally recognised what I have been suffering and that I am not crazy!  Doesnt help the pain knowing but does help with coming to terms with the condition.

?Does anyone know if you can apply for DLA?  I am no longer working as I felt that the fatigue and pain were just too much and now at home.

    Hi Jennet,

I know what you mean about being given a name for something, even if it doesnt take away the pain.

If you are going to apply for PIP, then please please please read everything on how to complete the forms.  PIP is not like DLA and you have to show how the illness affects your life.   ie bathing,  I sent in seperate sheets of paper detailing the things that I can no-longer do and the help I need, why I need help with showering, dressing/undressing, food preperation, eating, mobility etc.

Any questions, please just ask, there are some really helpful and knowledgeable people on here. x

Thank you,yes it does affect my daily living I have had to give up work because of the fatigue etc. and was putting myself and others in danger by nearly falling asleep whilst driving so I knew this was the final straw and that I had to do something about this.

Hi jennet I have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia but also have back problems. I have also had to give up my full time job as it was just too much. I have recently applied for pip and have a f2f with Capita on 4th of January which I am petrified about. I have heard lots of horror stories about how hard it is to get the benefit but don't know if you don't try so go for it x

Hi,I so hope your f2f goes well, last year I was on DLA,hifpgher rate of both, had assessment by Atos and had all but lower rate care removed,I had to return my4th mobility car!the embaressment of it all was to much to bear.i became withdrawn, depressed, and suffered panic atracks..the fact the assessor lied so much,my tip is ask for home visit, and take someone with you,ask them to take notes, ask the health care person what their profession is/was.i was told don't make chit chat, answer the question a

nd say nothing else.good luck xx

Hi Mandy, did you have other problems apart from your fibromyalgia? It makes you laugh how they can turn you down twice then give it you for the same thing a third time

I have server depression a disc crumbling and another disc squashing on the nerves. My hands and fingers go numb. The doctor said I had gout. Then another doctor sent me for Mri once again so the result were sent to a rheumatology doctor. That is when I was diagnosed with fibromalgia so I put I for it again and they passed me has I have everyday pain

      a crumblingdisc is not fibro.

      compressed nerves is not fibro.

      Something else is going on.

      You need a neurologist

and you need a spinal orthopedic
