Hi all. After lots of visits to GP followed by a series of falls I eventually was referred to Rheumatologist.last Friday. On 2 nd of August 5 days later he has started me on 20 mg PRED a day. He says I'm young as I'm only 55.... got a great Dr.I could have cried because I felt he'd listened to but this is my first post and I dont know much about it?

Hi, and Welcome: Even if it's not a great reason to be here, you have come to the right place for information and advice. I have had PMR for 16 months now, and when I started I had no idea about PMR or Prednisone until I came here. Eileen is great with information and also a lot of good support here.

As for you age, lot of rubbish, some Dr's and Rheumy's need to study and update their information.

I have spoken to many ladies on the PMR support page on facebook and they are in their late 30's etc. Some had been told you are to young to have PMR to find out a year later they do have it. This make me so mad.

I am late 60's so I accepted that I had it.

I wish you well on your journey and many pain free days:

Same I am 54 started at 20 my pred. Two months ago down to 10. I work out 4  days a week.  Stiff in the morning and at night but don't want to go higher in the pred.. start a no meAt or breAd or sugar.   Exact wine 😊This is very new to me but I read everything. And now joined this site ....I hear this will burn it self out. Very few people as young as us get this !!!!

It does usually burn itself out - about 75% of patients are able to stop pred within 2 to 6 years. Some of us take longer - and about 5% seem to have it for life.

And " Very few people as young as us get this" is wrong - there are a lot of people on the forums in their 50s and a few in their 40s. But there are unknown numbers out there who haven't been correctly diagnosed and fobbed of with "fibromyalgia", "depression", "somatism" and just "don't know". I know - at 51 I was one of them. If they aren't looking for it - they won't find it.
