Newly diagnosed- itching??

Posted , 92 users are following.

Hi, I was diagnosed with genital herpes type 2 a couple of weeks ago. My first outbreak was horrific but the sores cleared up within 5 days on aciclovir. Now I've got really intense itching in my vagina and all around my bum, has anyone else experienced this? I've been doing quite a bit of research but itching doesn't seem to be mentioned as a symptom after an outbreak. It's driving me crazy now and really getting me down as I'm so uncomfortable, I'm so scared of having another outbreak as the first was so painful.

Thanks

I know exactly what you mean by the itching.  That's how I found this forum - I googled "Does herpes itch?".  I'll tell you what has been a huge relief:  Bentonite clay.  That's the only thing.  Not lemon balm, not tea tree oil, not tinctures.  I take cold showers and put bentonite clay all over the itchy sores and, within minutes, it feels cool and calm - no itching!  It's the only thing that has given me relief!  Try it!

Hello everyone, I know this is an old thread, but it describes how I've been feeling lately. About a month ago I had vaginal redness, irritation, itching, and swelling and some red bumps near my vaginal opening. I had what I thought was a yeast infection. Used Monistat for 7 days and it cleared up. I had a dr Appt that had already been made right around the time I was feeling better, and she said she couldn't find any bacteria, yeast and that everything looked normal, and that you can have red bumps with a yeast infection, which she thinks I had, but had taken care of with the monistat prior to my dr visit. I was tested for chlamydia and ghonnorea, both negative. I couldn't do a blood test for herpes bc it hadn't been three months since the last sexual encounter with my new partner. We used condoms most times, except for about two times specifically. He told me he was clean and I believed him. I'm really disappointed in myself for trusting him with my body and health as I'm worried I may have contracted a life-long disease. Now, a month later, I am having some vaginal itching again, and some discharge, seems clear to grayish, if I had to guess. I thought maybe I had another yeast infection bc I can't really find any sores, but I do see a red patch with a couple bumps like before, a month ago when I had the yeast infection. I also see some very tiny tear looking fissures inside my inner labias but I don't see anything resembling an ulcer or sore. I don't recall ever having fever, muscle aches, tingling sensations, pain in leg and buttocks. I did experience some anal itching with the last occurance, but she mentioned that can happen with yeast infections. This is basically driving me crazy and I can't do a blood test for another month and a half. I know I could go get a swab test done, and I think I will just to get some answers until I can do the blood test. Anyways, I was hoping that maybe someone could give me some helpful insight on what they think this could be. Thanks so much in advance!!!

      Hi Jamie

You should ask your doctor for a prescription for antiviral meds. It will help shorten your outbreaks and also when you feel another one coming on. In the mean time epsom salt baths and lemon balm ointment (you can find it on amazon). I've used balmex diaper rash ointment also for servere itching . Please know you are not alone in this and in time the outbreaks will be less occurring. I'm 50 years old also and found out 5 years ago I have herpes. The first couple of outbreaks are the worst so hang in there. I've been having one maybe two that last less than a week a year now. But as soon as I feel some discomfort I start the antiviral meds and that shortens my outbreaks to 3-5 days.

      All the best , michele

      Hi Jamie,

What country do you live in?

You need some antiviral medication (I live in the UK and was given aciclovir). Doctors know very little about it and I found the GUM clinic at our local hospital to be the most helpful as they specialise in this sort of thing. Please try and find someone else to help you.

I promise you it is not the end of the world. I was absolutely devastated when I first got diagnosed, the pain is horrendous and I felt so depressed even though I had full support from my partner.

The pain does get better and the outbreaks less frequent. I won’t even think about the fact that I have HSV2 for weeks or months at a time it’s just a part of my life now and it’s a very minor part.

Let me know you’re ok and that the suicidal thoughts have gone please!! Xx

Hello, I know this is an older post, I was just diagnosed with herpes last month, which was my first ob and it was HORRIBLE. Now I'm just stuck with the itching feeling I have all over my body and my vaginal area that is driving me nuts. I'm still trying to figure out how I got it if I've only been with my ex, which I was with for 11 Years and my current partner this past year sad I've read through this entire blog and identify myself so much and need this itching to go away. My sex drive has been completely low due to my symptoms and just feeling nasty, when I know who I've been with but don't have a clue how I ended with this. I work at a Family Practice office and I told my doc about the itching and if I could go on something to prevent future bad ob and showed her a comment on here and looked at me like I was crazy. Only those of us living with this annoying discomfort know how it feels. I did some research on Pinterest too and since I'm an essential oil freak and thankfully have oregano oil and coconut oil I mixed them together and applied it in my vaginal area. I feel so much better already. It also suggested applying 1 drop of oregano essential oil under the tongue daily, which I just started too. I'm hoping this will work and keep you guys updated. Good luck to us all smile

Yesss, I had 1 blister last week but didn’t bother me at all. I must say it BURNS like crazy when you apply the oregano in the vaginal area but so worth the results afterwards. The itching and symptoms went away like 3 days after I started applying it.

Ok. I’m currently having an outbreak and I put diaper rash cream that has zinc in it on and i haven’t felt a thing all day. No burning it just hurts to wipe

Yes I’ve had it for over 15 years and still everyday I feel burning down there and just a very uncomfortable feeling. I am depress and won’t stop researching for the best vitamins. I have taken vitamin C, A B zinc and olive leaf extract as I’ve read so much good results, but as for me nothing helps. I don’t take any suppressants cause I have read too much negative about them. I don’t know what to do anymore.

This thread has been so useful! Both my husband and I recently experienced our first outbreak after having HSV for who knows how long! We've had extremely different symptoms: He started with a cold, then sore throat with swollen puss tonsils, fever for a few days, then after some antibiotics and steroids because the doctor thought it was strep, blisters on pelvic area...after antivirals the blisters went away but seemed to have a new OB with just a couple blisters and no other symptoms scepter a risk dual cough. Currently back on another 7 day dosage of antivirals.

As for me, started with slight irritation inside vagina, then after intense intercourse about 3 days later (I had no clue anything was wrong) it became painful and I noticed sores. Took blood and culture test and both were negative. I had terrible aching of sacrum area (butt bone) and upper thighs. Ibprofin greatly helped with that pain. The sores are gone but now the intense itching in between butt cheeks, and around vagina. It's been about 3 weeks from initial outbreak and itching began afternoon meds were finished although  still had some antibiotics to finish up.

My husband was tested about 13 days after beginning symptoms of outbreak and blood test came back positive positive for HSV 1&2. He's devestated and wonders how how long it may have been dormant  and/or where the heck it came from!

We are both very concerned about spreading the virus unknowingly to our kids (sharing drinks or something of the sort). This so incredibly frustrating!

Thank you to everyone who has shared

THis forum has really helped and I'm  hoping that our story is that of fewer outbreaks, less pain and discomfort, and effective management!

Hello, I know that this is an old thread but I have been driving myself insane researching since being diagnosed with herpes 2 last week. I have never experienced pain like this, I am in a new relationship and have not told him. It appears to be clearing up after using a lot of home remedies such as coconut oil and apple cider vinegar but I am now getting this dull ache/tingling feeling in my left butt cheek. I have read that it could be another outbreak but I am hoping it isn’t as this one has been hell.

Just need a little bit of advice. Thanks x

I absolutely had those symptoms but it was during or even towards the 2nd half of the outbreak.... from everything I read, first one is the absolute worst... read my thread to see if if answers any questions. Happy to share however I can!
