Newly diagnosed- itching??

Posted , 92 users are following.

Hi, I was diagnosed with genital herpes type 2 a couple of weeks ago. My first outbreak was horrific but the sores cleared up within 5 days on aciclovir. Now I've got really intense itching in my vagina and all around my bum, has anyone else experienced this? I've been doing quite a bit of research but itching doesn't seem to be mentioned as a symptom after an outbreak. It's driving me crazy now and really getting me down as I'm so uncomfortable, I'm so scared of having another outbreak as the first was so painful.

Thanks

To help your body fight the herpes virus you need to take these supplements L-Lysine 1000mg 3 x daily, Vitamin C 1000mg daily, Zinc 30mg 2 x daily and B-complex 50mg daily. The itch is absolutely terrible and there hasn't been noticeable relief from any treatment I have tried. Coconut oil will help slightly however the itch is the bodies was of dealing with the virus by releasing histamine and therefore not a topical issue. Try not to touch the itchy areas as this will only cause more irritation and histamine response. Go to your MD and start Valtrex or whichever anti-viral they prescribe. I'm researching this horrible virus and will hopefully have more information soon. This really does suck....but hang in there.

Try using apple cider vinegar with warm water and dab with a cotton ball on the skin before going to bed.

Hi all. I know this is an old thread but I wanted to share a couple things that work really well for me with this intense itching. I soak a cotton pad in witch hazel and put four to five drops of tea tree oil on it and then apply it to the itchy areas. It will burn some but it will stop the itch enough to continue normal activities. On the worst nights I will wake myself up scratching and get up to do this. It does really help. Oregano oil will do the same but it burns so intensely that I usually have to rinse it off within a couple minutes. I also use the allergy numbing spray, CBD, ice and Epsom salt soaks. But the tea tree oil is really my go to. I hope this helps someone! Take heart and know the symptoms will pass.

Oh my gosh I'm so glad I found this thread! I was diagnosed about a month ago. All symptoms have subsided (thankfully) except for this WILD ITCHING all over my butt and genitals. Nothing seems to help... I haven't been able to sleep well for so long. It's even affecting me at work. I thought it might be worms too haha, or a sign of a new outbreak. I'll definitely get some coconut oil cream today! Thanks for helping me feel like I'm not crazy smile

It is not a topical solution. Any oily creams only makes it worse for me. The body is releasing histamine to fight off the virus that is why it is itching so you will need to take antihistamine tablet too.

    Hi everyone!

I’ve just been diagnosed with HSV 2 (two weeks ago) and I felt like my life was over. I’m 23 and fear everything I love doing is going to be a trigger. Reading this forum helped me gain some perpective and I hope in our lifetimes there will be a cure (theravax vaccine looks promising!) I had itching about 5 days after finish aciclovir for my first outbreak and assumed it was another ob so I took another course. Maybe I was wrong but oh well.

Anyone from the uk having problems getting a doctor to prescribe daily antiviral meds? I don’t want to wait till I have 6 outbreaks in the first year to get some bloody drugs !

    Peace and love xxxx

      Hi!

Sorry to hear you felt like your life was over!! Though I know how you felt, the first outbreak is horrific at best.

Regarding your comment about getting the prescribed drugs..

I was diagnosed around a year ago and had the 5 day course of aciclovir to clear up the first outbreak. Since then I just wanted to forget I had it so didn't ask for the daily meds and in all honesty for a few months I did forget, I had no symptoms at all. In the last six months or so I've had quite a few minor ones and then one fairly major one again a couple of weeks ago which spurred me to go and get the daily meds and they were incredibly easy to get from my local sexual health clinic - the doctor more or less offered them to me without even having to ask.

You might just have to wait a bit to convince them you really need them as some people barely have any outbreaks after the first and you might be one of those lucky ones! If not, just make sure you tell them how much it's effecting your mental health and your employment and they should find it difficult to say no.

Best of luck! It gets much better I promise you!

Aw thank you so much for your lovely message! Yeah I also don’t want to infect my partner maybe that will help convince the doctors! To be honest I think I’d rather go straight on the daily meds but we’ll just have to see what they say. Glad to hear you didn’t need meds and barely had any outbreaks !!!

      Xxxxxxx

    Hello everyone!!

I was recently diagnosed with HSV2 and 1 but I’ve never had a HSV1 OB. When I was diagnosed with HSV2 I was currently I guess having an OB but I don’t recall having the actual sore completely form but I do recall that before I even started having problems down there I felt itching and a lot of it and burning when I’d urinate but I thought it was a test infection and this went on for a few months until I finally said this isn’t normal getting this many year infection until I went and got checked and blood work done and was diagnosed with it 2 weeks ago but she also said I did have a test infection as well and I did get that treated. They Dr. did give me Acyclovir 400mg to take 4 times a day for a week and while I was on the medication all of this symptoms went completely away. But not recently I’m having itching and burning sensation plus irritation once again and I don’t know if that means I’m having another OB yet again? Will this always be happening? Will I forever have to me on the meds daily? How do I know when I’ll be completely back to normal and when will I know when the OB has gone away or dormant/suppressed? Cause I’m getting pretty down feeling these symptoms will never go away. Any help or advice????????? P.s I’ve read that having this or an OB causes women to have  frequent yeast infections as well and that causes the itching/inflammation/irritation/burning sensation when peeing or in general? But idk... I just need help

Hello, i came across this forum and thought i could share some insight...

It is possible that some of you are describing Erythema Multiforme which is a rare but recurrent self limiting inflammatory reaction most commonly triggered by herpes simplex virus 1 or 2.

The herpes infection usually precedes the skin eruption by 3–14 days.

Typically in erythema multiforme, few to hundreds of skin lesions erupt within a 24-hour period. The lesions can be anywhere, specifically confined to the genitals but can found on the palms of your hands to the soles of your feet... there may be an associated intense itch or burning sensation.

The initial lesions are sharply demarcated, round, red/pink and flat, which become raised (papules/palpable) and gradually enlarge to form patches.

Antiviral medication will not work at this point. Topical antihistamines and topical steroids help. In severe cases, oral steroids may be necessary.

Symptoms should resolve within 2-3 weeks but can last as long as 5 weeks. Go see your doctor, teach them about it. Unfortunately, this immune mediated reaction is not studied enough so many health care providers are unaware.

This can be prevented by taking prophylatic antivirals to prevent the subsequent trigger of erythema multiforme after HSV 1 or 2.

    Anyway hope this helps.

Hi Robyn, but if the itching and burning is not associated with any active skin lesions do you then think it is Erythema Multiforme? Everthing looks fine, but the itching is persistent with nothing visible on the surface.

Zinc and castor oil barrier cream will stop the itchiness immediately.

Not sure if its available in your country but the one I use is called Skin Basics, it is 75mg of zinc and 500mg of castor oil.

I also take a lot of extra vitamins and wear comfortable underwear. Good luck and I hope this helps someone

Hi Katie, I'm having the exact same problem, though I didn't to in to the doctor to confirm I had HSV2 at the time. My blood tests show I have no antibodies to HSV2 so if it was that it's a recent infection, but the constant itching, and also somewhat of a numbing all around my vagina, anus, but also inside of my thighs. My GP also gave me a medication for thrush but didn't see evidence that I had it and it's done nothing for the constant itching. I cannot sleep because of it. I also have had shooting pains down my left leg, during the time when I had the sores, but also since that also hasn't gone away. Since I didn't get confirmation at the time that it was HSV2 I'm not 100% sure, though it seems more likely than shingles. However, I cannot find anyone besides you now that seems to be having the problems as I'm having so maybe others have also dealt with this?
