Newly Diagnosed with AV - Issues with Replens

Posted , 15 users are following.

I have been dealing with what feels UTI symptoms since early April.  7 courses of antibiotics later, a very painful cystoscopy, a yeast infection, BV, and now AV (and a 15 lb weight loss that I did not want).   During this entire time I have been using replens with the hope that some of the pain and burning would ease up a bit. But it didn’t. It turns out that the replens has been making things worse.  I have been having this very unusual white tissue like discharge  in addition to swelling, redness and severe burning. Turns out it is the replens!  Anyone else experience this? And any suggestions on a more natural product that has been successful at treating or at least reducing this horrible pain.  Anyone using Bioidentical hormones for AV?

I found something online called estrocare 25 described as a phytoestrogen cream containing red clover, vitex/chaste tree, borage oil, dong quai, natural vitamin E and black cohosh. Has anyone tried this one? There is no info on how often to use it or how to use it.

Yes that would be good because everything I use along with estriol sounds encouraging until I use it.  Estriol cream is all I use

Just returned from the naturopath. Ovestin (or Estriol) needs to be compounded here (which I am having done) and that is what this doctor normally uses. It will be a low dose to start since I am very sensitive to everything.  The doctor is adding aloe and calendula to the Ovestin cream to help heal/soothe the tissues damaged by the replens. Not sure what the Ovestin will cost but I guess I’m about to find out. As well, she suggested a vaginal and oral probiotic and gave me a lavender herbal blend to use in a sitz  bath. I also have the UTI issues so she has recommended a few things for that as well.  Lastly, she confirmed that organic coconut oil is safe to use so that was the first thing I went to when I got home.  Feeling more hopeful today.

Thanks Yolanda. If you have been using the Replens for days or weeks with no issues then I don’t think you need to worry. I hope it works for you.

Take care because aloe stings me and I think someone else mentioned on here that it stung her too.

julie, how are you doing with the probiotic? I got a once daily women's formula. It seems to cause a little stomach disturbance, so I've decided to alternate between swallowing them and inserting them as the product says you can do either. Have been trying to prevent an infection from returning. Inserting can be tricky for me as the capsule catches against the skin so a lot if coconut oil is required.

      Hi  Beverly,

I have tried a few probiotics. Some were actually too strong and caused stomach upset.  I have noticed it is best to take with a meal. The vaginal suppository probiotics caused major “wind”.  Neither have relieved any symptoms. But they can’t hurt so I will at least continue with the oral probiotics for now.

If you are taking probiotics you also need to take prebiotics. You need both for a healthy system. probiotics are living organisms, while prebiotics are indigestible fibers that provide nourishment for the probiotics—much like fertilizer for a garden. The probiotic suppliments I take also contain prebiotics which are necessary for the probiotics to work properly.

The probiotics I purchased were rather expensive but I did not see any mention of prebiotics on the label.  How frustrating.

suki, is that what they call raw probiotics? Woman at the health food store told me that just meant it supplied food for the probiotic and wasn't necessary. Right now I am alternating how I am using them. One day ingesting, next day inserting. Seems to be working fine. The slight itch that was returning seems under control. My goal was to build up the good bacteria and avoid taking another round of flagyl to kill the bad bacteria.

It was just the suppliment capsules I get. You could also try eating fermented foods such as live yogurt, miso, kimchi, kombatcha, sauerkraut, etc.

suki, I do eat yogurt, miso and drink kefir daily. Kimchi & sauerkraut are not for me. I was drinking kombucha last winter with no discernible effect.  Kefir does wonders for my digestion, but have noticed no effects from the others. I love miso and have used it as a soup for years.

Out of desperation this past winter I tried using a child's syringe to insert kefir vaginally to see if it would lessen the itch. Instead it created more discomfort & discharge as did multi-gyn.

The flagyl worked immediately. I am using the probiotic to build up natural defenses against a return of the infection.

Im not sure about kombacha. It is supposed to contain good bacteria but none of the claimed benefits have been empirically proven. It is also very acidic so I am not sure what effect this would have on urine and whether it would make the tendency to have uti’s less or more likely.

Suki, I'm not suffering with UTIs. (I know, it's very difficult to keep  straight who is who.) I have started taking probiotics to hopefully prevent the return of an infection which had coincided with pre-existing AV and newly diagnosed LS.

So far so good with the probiotics. Flagyl cleared the infection, but I began to feel a slight itch so decided to try the probiotics.

I tried kombucha out of curiosity to see if I would experience any health benefits from it. My sister has GERD and had a very positive result. Kefir is my miracle solution for IBS.

I have eaten yogurt for many years, but can't say that I have experienced good health as a result. I haven't had a yeast infection in so I long I can't remember, so it's possible the yogurt has benefited me in that regard, but it would be impossible to prove.

You know Yolanda I was getting on fine until I started using baby bath to wash with again. It started by having to get up to bathroom about five times each night and the UTI feeling and not having a UTI.

Yeah that was me also thinking this soap or that soap, Dr told me in my case possibly viral and he is testing for that if possible, cause it's a mystery for him too, my grandson had molluscum rash but rash isn't pimples just redness who knows
