I'm 55 and no weight problems.only been stopped smoking 5 days. cold turkey .doesn't seem to be bothering me too much.more worried if the stress of stopping is increasing my bp

When I mentioned to a consultant that I had stopped smoking six months before he said that in seven years my risks for heart disease and lung cancer would have reduced to almost the level of not having smoked.

Strange but exactly seven years later I was found to have BP of 210/110 :-)

It is defo strange! I stopped smoking 3 years ago and was diagnosed with hypertension 12 months after quitting. I am now on 4 different tabs for BP and 1 for cholesterol a day. Although I am glad I stopped smoking can't help thinking that I've not been right since, although could also put it down to getting older!

Well done for giving up Kevin xx

Smoking must have relaxed us! The money I save on smoking I use to buy a better quality wine. Perhaps the wine puts my BP up.

Hi Kevin ,hope the no smoking stays  can only give it your best shot .

I've been on Ramapril ,it will give you a cough ,so don't worry ,I had to stop those ,now on Losartan 50 mgs ,they seem to be the most used one ,so many on BP tabs these days ,I've heard teenagers are on them now as well ,that's mind boggling to me .Hope you go on okay ,stress caused mine to start ,at the age of 64 ,so age related maybe .

Good work Kevin.you are in the withdrawal stage, and actually this will increase your bp for most people. Continuing to smoke would have no benefit. As you continue toward healthy lifestyle you can look at caffiene and salt reduction. Also some cardio exercise like walking, even.People who dont smoke can develop high bp ,especially if it is hereditary. So we have to deal with what comes our way.I quit smoking.got to say it was tough.I had high blood pressure and so I brought it down.
