Night time is the worst. For you, too?

Hi guys.

I wanted to ask if anyone else here with hemorrhoids suffers the worst at night?

I've been in pain every night now for weeks and I'm getting worried I may never feel good again.

I have an appointment with my specialist tomorrow and I can not wait.

Anyway, just wanted to pop in and ask that question and say hi 🙂

Thanks for reading!

Susana

Hi Susana, I presume you have used prep H or other numbing cream? mine didn't really cause me too much discomfort (had for 20 years) but was losing so much blood I was anaemic and close to having blood transfusions and the amount of iron I had to take made me ill, so I had no real, choice other than the op. Did try 'banding ' first but didn't work.  I had a hemorriodectomy 3 weeks ago where they removed three large hems. If you had said to me even a week and a half ago I would be sitting here comfortably (bm's still painful - and muscle spasms for a while after, but manageable) writing this I wouldn't have believed you. If the pain and lack of sleep is seriously interfering with your life and happiness you may want to consider surgery. It's not something to be taken lightly, and the first two weeks are intensely painful, I will not lie, but I have read many accounts from others, who like you, have suffered so much pain before that it is worth it for a pain free life a month or so on. I'm not at the end of the journey by any means (they've said two months) but the pain now is manageable. Hope this helps. Any other questions please feel, free to ask. Take care Susana. X

      Hi Teresa

You said your bm is still painful just wondering if ur also experiencing multiple bm a day??

I'm just not where I should be 3 weeks post op.  I just need to see the light at the end of the tunnel

Do you take softeners?  If so morning or night??

Hi Sez, unfortunately, yes, I'm still having 3 to 5 per day, often only 10/15 mins apart which is really annoying. Every time I go I'm sure I've done all that's there, but just 15 mins later the urge to go again and sometimes just bits. Saw my GP yesterday as I feel I'm still anemic, so blood test booked, but coincidentally she changed does of my blood pressure pills, and now have diarreah again! Bottom muscles go into over drive. I have been taking  two softness one first thing and one last thing, but now don't know again! It's sooo frustrating, two steps forward and then four back. 3 weeks isn't long. I was told I'd feel a lot better in a month (well I'm not screaming any more) but that it would take two months to feel back to your old self. Nobody tells you your whole system has to,adjust! I'm supposed to go back to work Monday, mmm. I really feel for you Sez it's all so unpredictable, but from what you say I think you are on the 'normal' (hah!) road to recovery! Good luck hon x teresa

Thank you Teresa.  How frustrating for you to get diarrhoea. Hopefully that'll resolved once your body adjusts?

Maybe dial back on the softeners?  It's so hard to know the right dose isn't it

Gosh I hope we both feel better asap 🙂🙂🙂

This experience has been life changing.   I have a newborn to deal with on top of all this.   Great timing... not!!

Usually the pain is worst after a bm for me.   Do you sit on some ice to alleviate the pain ?? Or sitz bath ?

You will feel better one day 🙂 Keep your chin up

It's a horrendous condition to have

    Hugs xx

    Hi Teresa and Sez 🙂

Thank you for the replies. Teresa--I'm glad you are feeling better after your surgery. I hope you feel 100% very soon!

Sez--I do sit on ice and take all the pain relievers. What fun it all is, right? Actually, I might go and sit on some ice here after I type out this reply. Sounds good about now.

I saw my surgeon yesterday and amazingly she informed me that I have one inflamed hemorrhoid that's driving me crazy and she banded it. I don't know why people say the banding doesn't hurt because it does. Pressure and burning, I mean. Sez, I had a bowel movement this morning and I was right to dread it. Ouch city.

At least now I know for sure what is causing my symptoms. I had to wait for my appointment so long my mind started to race with all kinds of ideas.

So now I'm just waiting for the pain to be completely gone. Here's to hoping it is soon.

In the meantime--to my ice block I go.

Again, thanks for the replies. It helps to have people to talk to about these awful things

    Susana 🙂

You could try some of the maternity ice packs you can get from Amazon? Nothing is a miracle cure but anything that helps is worth a go when you're suffering so much discomfort. Good luck.

Hi Susana, glad to hear you have seen your surgeon and had the culprit banded. Hopefully once it goes you will get relief. Like you I waited ages and was sure it had to be something serious. These sites were a lifesaver for me and kept me sane in bad times. I know what you mean about the burning, it's like someones turned a Bunsen burner on down there! Icing didn't help me, in fact made it sting more, but my life saver was the sitz bath, or a warm bath, it was the only thing that seemed to ease the pain for a while. Anyway, fingers crossed you'll feel back to normal soon. Do let us know. All,the best Teresa

    Hi Sez and Teresa

How are you both today? I hope feeling better and better all of the time.

I wanted to say that I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my thread.

Having hemorrhoid pain is not only

physically horrible, but the mental aspect of it all is also pretty bad. The feeling like you may never feel good again, at least for me (and I imagine all of us) is so depressing. Also, this sounds kinda mean, but a few people in my life know what's going on with me and they text everyday--are you better today? How about today? How about now?

And I'm like--stop asking me that!

Isn't that awful. I should be glad they care, but i have no idea when this butt pressure is going to finally be over.

For the time being, I've gotten off social media sites...I find I can't really tolerate much right now.

In other words--I am so crabby.

Bought some herbal cinnamon and chamomile teas today, thinking about putting pajamas on, having a cup, and sitting on my ice block. Perhaps tomorrow is the day I'll feel better again.

And hopefully tomorrow is your day, too.

Oh Susana please hang in there

It does get better I'm sure.   I've felt exactly how you are feeling today.  Recovery seems to be going so slowly. It's frustrating. I just think back to a few weeks ago and it does seem to be getting better In hindsight

It's one step forward 5 steps back I've read

I hope tomorrow is a better day for you truly.

Thank you, Sez. You're very nice to be so positive. I appreciate it.

Have any of you guys had the banding procedure done before? I still have the awful symptoms every night, though not as horrible. Still not good, though.

It makes me second guess if my doctor got it all or what.

It has only been a week. I guess I was thinking maybe I'd feel a lot better by now.

Ice pack and Tylenol AGAIN tonight.

Hope you're all having a good night. It's a pretty night where I live. I've got all the windows open smile

Susana could you be doing too much during the day that it's flaring up the pain in the evenings?!

I wonder why it's so painful moreso in the evenings...

My pain is the worst in the mornings after several bms. Or it could also be some rectal pressure on your veins/nerves causing this discomfort for you

I'm glad pain relief settles it down though

I haven't had banding done but have heard it causes a truck load of discomfort

Im glad your hanging in there  it'll only get easier day by day

      Xxx

Susana, you will feel better I PROMISE! I went through every feeling you are describing, and people texting every day are you feeling better now. So annoying they can’t take the trouble to research what you’ve been through. It’s still early days but you have got through the first five, I never thought I was going to feel better again, but I do! After 10 days I started to feel human again, still in pain, but manageable.  I was too scared to believe it, but every day after (with some setbacks) I got better and better. I would never have believed that I would be back at work a month later (only just) and I am still very tired. The pain will get better (it is still painful to have a bm, but manageable, no longer 3 hours pain after). There is light at the end of the tunnel, hon, you will feel better again. Xx

Thank you both for being so encouraging. It means so much to me--going through this is so much easier if you have someone who understands and can relate. I know I'm driving my poor husband crazy. He just wants me to feel better and I am trying.

How are you both today? Give me updates if you get a chance. I hope you're both feeling good.

You've lifted my spirits! I can't thank you enough.

Hi Susana, it will be five weeks on Monday. My first week back at work (3 days a week). Apart from tiredness, im almost back to normal. Bm’s still uncomfortable rather than painful, and trying to keep stools in between dirreah and constipation is difficult. I would NEVER have believed this a week and a half ago.

These forums also helped me enormously and helped me realise that all the awful pain is normal, sadly. Hope your feeling a bit better. You will, I promise xx
