If this isn't too much information: you could try glycerene suppositories. You have to wait half an hour but you can sit on the loo seat so not far to go.

And as Patricia says - that stuff they give you for a colonoscopy is amazingly effective but definitely overkill in your case.

    Hope it resolves soon.

Michael, as I stated in my text, you needed to take a full bottle before a colostomy.  This is not a usual dose.  The average person suffering from this problem would take a capfull and not the full bottle.  The usual reccomended dose as stated on the package will give good results after one or two doses, even if you haven't gone in a week.  With a colonoscopy you are not looking for a good bowel movement, you are looking for a full bowel cleansing.

?Sorry that I wasn't clear on my last text.

Hi Brittni,  It happen to me as well.  It's totally because of the opioids.  I also took stool softners, and nothing happening.  I drink looks of fluids, and still nothing.  It was day 13, and still nothing, so I finally took a over the night laxative, and it worked.  So, on day 14, I started to have relief.  I only took 1 pill, and I didn't have any kind of cramping, it didn't make me run to the bathroom, however, it did take a couple of days to get rid of it all.

    WARNING!!!!!

Just to get your attention as there have been many responses. I had severe constipation post op and didn't have a motion for two weeks.

The massive strain it took to finally get things moving again has given me an Inguinal Hernia

Don't let it come to that.

I was in so much discomfort from the operation I just kept ignoring the fact that the stool softeners weren't working.

Inguinal hernia will require another operation. A comparitively minor one but still something to avoid.

Dulcoease always works for me. It is very gentle and you may have to wait until the next day, but worth it. Take one three times a day. Also drink lots of water, that helps.

    Good luck xx

So sorry, the pain killers make this process more difficult but love those meds.  Coffee works for me but I guess you need to hydrate really well. A week and a half seems like a concern. I am not sure what your diet intake has been. I hope this too shall pass. Sorry not much help. I know you are getting lots of good ideas here... glad you asked.  Best of luck

I am now 9 days after a RTHR.  After 4 days I started to get worried since the Doc had prescribed me two different anti-constipation meds and still nothing had happened.  I found that prune juice did the trick the best.  I also blended up high-fiber fruits and vegetables (apples, celery, chia seeds, grapes, kale, etc.) with yogurt to make shakes.  I drink one of those shakes daily and 8-16oz of prune juice and I seem to be almost "regular."
