Been treated for acid reflux cough for years and years. Been really bad this week, and now physically vomiting. I can feel the cough coming up and it is so bad, also very wheezy..... Totally exhausted. Doctor, not very sympathetic, now suggests it may be asthma ....after all these years. Also wants to send me for a camera exploration into my stomach. Any thoughts anyone? Any help?

I had an episode of reflux aspiration many years ago. I woke up and could not breath. It took me almost a minutes to get air out and back in. Some people inhale the acid reflux and get lung inflammation and a cough. It is all very serious and needs to be addressed immediately. You can experiment and sleep upright in a comfortable chair for a few nights and see if you improve. Your bed needs to be elevated 8 inches, you can use old books. I discovered a way to strengthen the lower esophageal sphincter. It is described here:

Go for the endoscopy. It will tell you if you have a sliding hiatus hernia which would explain the stomach contents (usually acid) coming up into your lungs. I have that and it is horrible. I have coughing episodes that make me vomit too. Afterwards, I am wheezing too. I have found that taking my anti-depressant and other medications earlier in the afternoon has alleviated this problem 90% of the time. I still sleep upright. Milk products are hard on me too.
