No more crutches!

I just left my appointment with surgery after 5 weeks post surgery, bimalleolar fracture, 9 screws and a plate. So the surgeon said throw away the crutches. By the time I left there and stopped in at the PT, then to the store I could walk without the crutches. It hurt and was tight but slowly became easier. I start Pt next week and by the end of next week I will know if I can start working again. He wants me to see how next week goes for me. I am icing it now. It feels great to stand and walk!!!!!!

Shantell,
I have been up walking in my boot for almost two hours, I went to the grocery store and couldn't find things. When I got home I iced and rested it. I was afraid I over did it but it is just fine. In fact this morning I actually stood up barefoot. I can't lift my heel up at all to walk properly though. So I keep the boot on for walking. I was going to start gentle stretches today with a towel just to try to strench my heel down a bit. Only very slowly though, not causing pain. I start PT on Tuesday. I feel very encouraged this morning. I hope you get good news next week! It's nice having somebody go thru the same thing at the same time because other people don't know exactly what it is like.

I think I will be doing it twice a week. I only have about 12 or so times left on my insurance so I can't go too often. No the boot is fine. But I thinks it rubs a little. I just put a compression sock on my foot today.

So just from the walking, light stretching, and an hour in a pool stretching some more, I can now lift my heel up about 3 inches off the floor! Just from a day ago. It's not so easy trying to lift the toe. But the increased range of motion is progress I am grateful for. I have to try to prevent my insicion from being rubbed by the boot though.
