After each time you pee? This increases my suspicion that LS is an auto-immune reaction to our urine.
  • Posted

Yes I agree it could be an auto immune to our urine as sometimes my urine feels lime it is burning and the LS flares up

Hmmm. So - if it is that LS may be an auto-immune reaction to our own urine, would that then mean LS is actually related to and caused by some elements of our diet? So far, haven't been able to pin down what I might be doing wrong in my day to day diet. My doctor thinks I have a very healthy one - loads of vegetables, fruit, moderate portions of meat and fish. Not a sweet craver but prefer savoury - like cheese and spices as flavourings. I ave always enjoyed milk and dairy which I thought were good for me. However, lately I have wondered if dairy might cause constipating. As small anal fissures are a large part of my LS related irritations, even small slightly hard stools cause some bleeding.

Will we ever find our way through this LS maze of unanswered questions? Sorry - ou can tell I am feeling a bit down now - having my second flare-up withing 4 months. All of you are such brave ladies and your input so supportive.

      hi helen

sorry to hear of your anal fissures. i think your explorations into diet are worthwhile and that dairy might be an inflammatory agent for you at the moment...tho you may be able to go back to it.

another way of looking at this is maybe that our bodies are helpfully sensitive and guiding us away from things that have been contaminated with anti biotics and GMO's.

if you've given up grains quiting dairy might be helpful too til you gut is repaired   by resting from the sources of inflammation ....whereafter raw milk and raw milk products including cultured cheeses might become acceptable.

I'm also just setting out on omitting dairy. enjoying herb teas and so on. would be happy to exchange mutual help.

i started putting up recipes....see juicing and paleo section...if you start exploring you may come up with recipes to share?

      hope to follow your recovery

Yes flare ups are horrid I hate it when it happens

I am vegetarian don't eat dairy eat sheeps cheese goats butter and goats milk

Lots of fruit and veg and love pasta which is auto immune

But I don't think our diet has a great deal to do with L S

Have you heard of Double Base Gel for washing and using as a moisturiser

My Gyneo lady put me on to it I am in UK

I find since using it I am more comfortable

She also suggested I take Omega 7 capsules which are good for inner and vaginal moisturising

I have been taking them for 2 months now and find a bit of difference they have buckthorn in them

I also, have vitiligo which is auto immune also and a collapsed bladder supported with a pessary

But I really have no need to complain as others are much worse of than me

Also my gyneo lady said don't use softener in wash don't use chemicals when cleaning

So I have gone back to Soda Chrystals vinegar white and lemons but imam old enough to remover all these things

You can put soda Chrystals in the washing machine for your white wash and it acts as a softener also

And she said never wear trousers tights pads or knickers and I have followed all her instructions

This from a person who always wore trousers. Now she wears skirts petticoats no knickers and it is very comfortable try it

I'm not bad enough to go commando in skirts just yet, but I did return to sewing my own clothes last year, with loose trousers top of the list. Then I sewed a dozen pairs of cotton panties. They fit so well I don't notice they're there. Between this and my treatment I'm no longer squirming on the sofa.

You who have other serious auto-immune disorders with serious known digestive connections have a strong motive for making major dietary changes. My experience for many years with psoriasis is that vaguely suspecting various foods and worrying excessively about every bite you take (while doubting the necessity) can act as a big stressor. The fact that my psoriasis can be totally in remission during a period of junk food indulgence is enough to prevent me going beyond a healthy (high fibre, mostly organic) diet very light on sweets, meat, dairy, and alcohol.

Thanks, Morrell. Right on! I needed to hear that. That's good enough for me - I am going to 'stop worrying and learn to love the clobetasol' - back to enjoying my food without guilt!

    Thank you Morrell,

A person just has to live life. After taking out the basics (alcohol, sugar, gluten and perhaps a few other items) that's what will have to do. It is too often totally mysterious what caused the next flare up. So LIVE!

One thing I have started doing is: increase the amount of Licene I take. It seems to 'cool' the flare up down. In short - I continue to try to make it more liveable.

I'm reading all these posts and have had a thought. I know that citrus fruits make my Ls worse. I now wonder if our urine gets too acidic is it that it is burning us which is why it only affects the external parts of our body. I know I only have to be caught out when I am away from home without the necessary paraphinalia to keep myself pristine down there that I am immediately aware of a flare up.Just a thought............ question

My friend who is a nurse said before I was diagnosed with LS that I may have acid urine and said to take vitamin B which I found my urine was a lighter colour afterwards so could be something in that diagnosis as well.

Hi Holiday girl,  Thankyou for that information.  I will give B vits a go as they seem to be good for most women's problems.  I will try to take note of the urine colour.  I have also realised that when I have a flare up morning urine hurts more.  Probably as it is stronger.

I use the coconut oil because it make the LS feel much better and it is a natural antibiotic and does not stain my underwear .. for comfort I wear my underwear inside out....my break outs are not as bad now because of all this....

    Dear Nismo09,

Thank you so much for your post.  What is Sitz bath?  What type of coconut oil are you using?  Any particular brand?  Do you need to warm it up first?

    Many thanks.

Any coconut oil works... if it is cold pressed... I get mine from Costco ...they have the best price .....Sitz ibath s a small tub that fits on the tolit.. I use dried sage that I grow in my yard... a good two hand fulls, bring to boil  let set on low heat tell it looks strong  then strain most of sage out of the tea....I only do this once or twice a week  just to keep from a break out .... have not had a bad one for some time now ....I do the coconut oil because it is a natural antibiotic and keeps the skin from getting dry. this works for me...
