Hello, Here is some background really quick. I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia about 7 years ago. Recently I had been diagnosed with severe grade 3 gerd. I believe I have LPR due to my symptoms I have every single symptom and not really any for gerd. I have tried changing my diet but everything hurts. I feel that no matter what I eat... I do not get relief. I never want to eat anymore... and when I dont eat or skip a meal I also feel awful! So sometimes I just eat what I want. I have no idea what to do my GP doesnt know what to do. She just sends me to a gastroenterologist and they just throw antacids at me whixh I have told them has made me feel worse. All I need to know is if someone else out there is going through the same thing. I am really scared of getting

I totally sympathize with you i am suffering same but am on medication and don't have stomach pain or anything but i also have laryngeal reflux and that's my main problem at the moment so trying to change my diet you can get food advice off internet basically you just have to eat non acidic foods and dont drink alcohol or coffee but i bought camomile tea other day is suppose to be good and an anti inflammatory and good for stress but still keep going doctors to persuade them to do something else.keep trying or swap your doctor till you get results.i will keep in touch.

Hi Maureen can I ask what are your laryngeal reflux symtoms ? I've had the severe need to clear my throat now for 12 months especially in the morning that subsides but I still get bouts during the day. Then about 2 to 4pm I get hoarsness like my voice doesn't sound the same and a feeling I'm getting a slight sore throat. I also get a lot of stomach grumbles as soon as I eat imediatley after..I also get a lump in the throat feeling..I'm on alkaline water , no tea or coffee except camomile but doesn't seem to work so for ( 2 months in) I've got to see an ENT in august just want to know what it is so I can learn to live with it instead of worrying daily...any advice welcome cheers pete

I know that it's not a good idea to "self diagnose", but a person gets to that point when they can not get educated answers from educated doctors.  I became really ill in 2012 (near death) and a lot of surgeries were performed over a four month period.  While recovering in one of the four hospitals I was admitted to, I became so frustrated that I could not taste my foods or everything tasted sour or bitter and I just wanted help.  I never received an answer while hospitalized.  Now 23 months later I'm still suffering from the same symptoms - sweet foods tasting bitter, certain foods tastings like cardboard and it's getting to the point where you're right, you do not want to eat.  I've tried to eat healthy, but kept having extreme pain right beneath my breast area (burning and the feeling of being stabbed) whenever I ate.  Even a simple salad of lettuce, tomatoes and ranch salad dressing would send my body into a frenzy!  I did my own research and I truly believe that I have a severe case of GERD, plus LPR.  Due to not eating (fear of eating), I've lost 100 pounds since 4/2013 just due to not eating.  I'm now an amputee (part of the 2012 illness), my cardio exercises are very limited so it's not like I'm on a "diet" of calorie counting and exercise...it's just NOT EATING!!  In the last 45 days I've had five severe flare ups!   One was after roasted chicken and green vegetables and one was after an egg white omelet with mushrooms and tomatoes.  I can understand the skin on the chicken and the tomatoes, but now I eat the same thing over and over again that doesn't cause pain, but still "one bite at a time", hoping for a pain free eating experience.  I'm thankful that I'm getting smarter about my condition.  But it's unfortunate that I had to do most of it all by myself when I have health insurance.
