I am getting REALLY FRUSTRATED with this situation I do not believe that there is a problem, I am a diabetic with an under active thyroid problem, I have NOT been able to get hold of any orlistat since the beginning of this year 2012. IT IS DISGUSTING. There is something that they are hiding from the public which is NOT RIGHT.

morning guys - just to let you all know i have had an email from lloyds pharmacy about a new fat binder pill, its called XLS-medical.

its around £60.00 for a months supply, reviews - some good, some bad.

At that price i dont think i will be buying them unless there is 100% guarantee, and by the sounds of it there isnt.

wanted to let you all know incase any of you wanted to try them ??

Also had an email from TEVA UK, they dont think they will be able to keep up with the supply of orlistat/xenical, the demand is too huge !!

Not what we wanted to hear eh !!

Most of you now on the Board will not even remember me but I did lose almost 2 stone 2 years ago....at that

time Orlistat was no problem to get, indeed I went back to my GP some months ago and was given another prescription which I got at the local chemist. they only had half a month's supply left after my prescription was filled.....that was very early in the year. I did start on them for a week and lost 5 lb....but then I had to do some very hard work at home decorating and to take Orlistat and live on quite little protein and do hard work was just not wise for me so I went off - indeed I have not used up my other 3 week's supply but am about to start again....realising that this may be the last chance ever have to get on the straight and narrow. I hope by the time the three weeks is up I will have re-trained my palette to better things and somehow got my stomach back to eating little and often. It seems to me that possibly we are going to have to do without this medication for quite some time so I'm giving myself a talking to.....3 weeks blueys and then I'm on my own....and yes, it is the fear of bowel accidents which keep one from eating too much fat. I wish it were different for us all but we'll just have to buckle down and do our absolute best until the blueys are back in stock. Money is the bottom line here...the NHS has abandoned us - short sighted as they'll be picking up a bigger bill if they don't get a supply on board sooner rather than later.

I was on Orlistat for approx 15months and lost 5 stone and went from a size 22 to a size 12 and because i kept up regular exercise a major OMG exercise is like a no go area lol but i dont it and looked fab. Granted now i have put weight back on by just being a greedy cow and have an addiction to food lol. I went back to my local pharmacy and was pure gutted to find that they didnt have it in stock and the problems surrounding it. I have had no side effects what so ever. Not even the running to the loo unexpectidly. Im really hoping it comes back soon as it is a life saver for people suffering obesity. Hopefully not much longer. :s look forward to other updates. Take care peeps and be mind strong. Put the cake down!

Well done Claire - you've had a good experience all told. Keep going and keep that weight off....says she who hasn't taken her own advice. I agree with you about the exercise...but I only walked - I'm not an exercise freak - vertigo keeps me upright always so walking suits me best...and obviously I haven't even been doing that so I really deserve to be the weight I am.

Hi Amanda, you have to be really careful with what you are eating. The Orlistat is to help you lose the weight but you can not be on it for the rest of your life. I was taking Orlistat from Sep'11 and I have lost 2 stone without doing any exercise, so to be honest the problem is just what we are eating. I know its difficult the get it from the pharmacy right now because of manufacture problem but we have to try to control ourselfs and eat less junk food and sweets to not put any more weight till the Orlistat is back. Dont feel offended by my message because I know how you feel and I understand frustration.

I managed to get my prescription of Orlistat today from a little chemist in my town of Wakefield. The Pharmacist said they got a delivery last week and as of today they only had 3 boxes left, 2 now I've just got mine! They also said that other pharmacies should be expecting deliveries also but supply would be limited as most of the stock is already owed out to people with outstanding prescriptions. My advice is to keep trying the smaller pharmacies as Boots etc. are still saying out of stock.

    Good luck smile

@plum84 - its ok im not offended by your message, its fine. I spose i always saw orlistat as my crutch really and now ive not got any im in a panic really, im really craving crap at the moment ?? i just want to eat junk, i really need to get my ass back to the gym but am really lacking motivation, my get up and go has got up and gone !! im feeling soooooooooooo tired, i know that comes from being a mum of 2, that isnt going to change so i need to change and get my ass in gear, ive bought some multi vitamins to see if that gives me a boost of energy !!

@leahlove - im so chuffed that you got your script, well done, i think thats going to be the trouble for a while, so many people are owed them that as soon as supplies filter threw they will be out of stock again, oh well fingers crossed an all that !!

    Hi Amanda001 ..

I do feel for you and understand totally where your at. 2 years ago I had orlistat and lost 2 stone in 8 weeks ..lovely for a nice dress for my sons wedding ..but then GP only let me have it for 4 months and since then weight is gradually creping back on even though I am careful with what I eat the extra weight makes me feel slower and sluggish too.

Unfortunately I have various health problems that make exercise difficult but do take a briskish walk each day.

Some days I just cant resist some extra savouries no matter how hard I try (dont have too much of a sweet tooth) but try to make them low calorie snacks.

Ive stopped chocolate completely and only eat bread at the weekends ..I rarely have an odd glass of wine perhaps once a fortnight ..I trim fat off everything and use skimmed milk in my tea/coffee and a sweetner.

My breakfast is a crispbread scraped with marmite ..and lunch chopped iceberg lettuce with small weight watchers Tuna..a meat and veg meal in the evening..

I just think some of us have a slower metabolism and the orlistat helped things pass through more quickly which helped me a great deal without any nasty side effects.

My gp again prescribed orlistat a few weeks ago and told me that I can be on it for a year at a time but like you Im so frustrated that I cant get it now..

Hi Amanda smile I dont know if you ever try the cabbage soup and diet coming with it. But before I got Orlistat I tried this diet and I can only say is working to lose weight. I lost 1 stone in week time. My GP told me that cabbage soup is not the solution for the weight lose for long time so finally I got Orlistat. This diet is good to try yourself if you can manage without junk food and sweets. After few days on this soup you forget about sweets and you would feel like you have more energy. On the second or third day you may feel so so hungry and even going mad but is only 7 days. You just have to try and not cheat smile I send you a link

Hi all, I'm having the same problem. I'm a bit annoyed as I'm disabled and have to rely on my mom to come and pick me up to get prescriptions etc. Surely the surgeries you go to should have an idea of the problem if it's nationwide? I can't exercise so I have trouble losing weight and I was finally looking forward to something positive! I don't eat a lot of rubbish but if I do it all helps. I'm getting ready to write a list of all the smaller pharmacies so I can call them on Monday. Fingers crossed ey?! Hope everyone has better luck :-)

    Hi Fliss

Are you eating enough carbs? You say sometimes you can't resist extra savouries yet in your post you appear to not be eating anywhere near enough. Recommended 6 (for the sedentary person. 9 for an active adult) so that's between 6 and 9 pieces of bread (or pasta, potatoes, rice etc). It's essential that you do, or your body doesn't lose weight. You also appear to eat very low fat diet. It's important that you have some fat to feel full. I have repeatedly tried to eat a very low fat diet and cut down on quantity of food but it doesn't work. Now I'm eating more than ever and the weight is coming off at two lbs per week. Plus I no longer think about food and what I 'shouldn't' eat. I eat 6 to 9 carbs and sweets an treats daily too. This is the first time in years and years that I feel I'm making progress.

    Good luck.
