Hi, I'm here because I have suspected glandular fever.

Last Monday night I more or less collapsed into bed freezing, I had to sleep in my clothes and slippers and couldn't move at all, I've never felt exhaustion like it. I thought I was just over tired.

The next morning couldnt move from vbed at all, nor have I been able to stay up all day since.

My glands are up in my groin, neck, behind my ears and armpits ( I can feel the pain there on and off) and my doctor today confirmed they were all up.

I've had a fever on and off.Sore throat (but not too bad, just sore).

For me it's the exhaustion and gland pains. I also have pain under my ribs, which is something I've never had before.

If I walk to the kitchen to make tea, or attempt to have a bath I'm so exhausted afterwards that I feel like I'm going to die. I get so dizzy and unsteady too sad

I was just wondering if this does sound like glndular fever or just flu? I'm having bloods done on friday.

I've had plenty of flus before, but they've never felt like this sad

Hey , I think I may have mono as well but really been unsure . I think it started in november I had a bad headache with a slight fever with a little cough but I'd went away next day but I got a headache more times after but no fever . But in December on 10th I was okay until my mom's birthday , I had consumed alot of alchohol and ended up being to intoxicated to where I was falling , heavy breathing I vomited at least 5 times that night .since that is when I really started feeling unwell I woke up one morning around 19th after being depressed and breaking down the night before .when I woke up I had a cold sore which is normal for me around different seasons and when I'm stressed and serious fatigue and just not feeling good at all laying down all day and I'm 19 and very active but along with that I had major gas followed by muscle twitching all over my body and I mean from my neck to my feet no appetite at all blurry vision loss of balance sometimes even thinking slow and confused I noticed my eyes got a little yellow tint and I had been having gas really bad like every minute to which I thought something was feeding on my energy and vitamins it was horrible feeling , then I noticed I lost weight as well at least 10 pounds when I looked in the mirror I was so scared .. by New year's I was getting back to normal but when all my symptoms stopped I noticed my tounge is white and gets thick when I smoke or if I drink and still is its been a full month I I never had a sore throat and I still have fatigue from time to time I haven't been able to gain my weight back but I have my appetite .going to buy some vitamin b12 and others to try and get myself back together

      Hi Johnnie,

Sorry to hear you've been feeling this way, and thinking about you and hoping things feel a bit better soon. If you've not already, I would definitely see your doctor and ask him to do a blood test for mono because that should be able to rule in or out if that is causing your problems, and of course it's just good to see a doctor anyway when you're feeling that way and have lost weight.

Of course I know it's never easy to stop these things, but smoking and drinking can only make things worse if it is mono or any kind of virus. I know when under stress it might be hard to stop completely, but even if you cut down a bit if possible, give yourself the best chance.

Hope you feel better soon and definitely see the doc and ask for a blood test.

      Take care

I do agree with craig, you need to do a blood test, it could be a liver disfunction as it can give just the same symptoms... I tested positive for mono on late November, I'm recovering though it's so damn slow, I have had a white since a few weeks and it kind of scares me cuz I've 4 red bumps on the back of my tongue too!

      I hope you're doing good.

Hey everyone, I meant to post on here on Saturday but I forgot 😳 I was going to say on Saturday that I felt better, but on Sunday I woke up with a bad gland, I thought maybe I was coming down with a cold. It's Thursday now and that same gland is back hurting like mad again sad I feel tired again too and dizzy. I'm meant to be back at work in 2weeks too but I don't know what's going to happen.

Is it usual for gland pain to go for a few weeks and then come back with the tiredness and dizziness again? rolleyes

      Hi Shabby,

So sorry to hear the gland pain and tiredness and dizziness is coming back like that. Yes in my experience is it definitely normal for that to happen - it's such an up and down virus, you can think you're making progress for a few days sometimes and then those kind of symptoms or a different symptom will come back and hit you.

Just want to reassure you that this is normal and that eventually it all fades - good way to think about it is that every mini recurrence like this is helping your body get under control of the virus and gets to the stage where those things don't come back at all.

Thinking of you and remember you WILL make a full recovery, and don't panic if it doesn't come back right away - if you need to take more time off work then please do, don't want you rushing back too soon that can cause a set back.

Hey Craig, sorry for the slow reply. I've been feeling pretty damn rubbish. I really thought I was getting well. I thought I'd be back at work in the next week or so, I just get so tired easily, and my gland in the left side of my neck comes straight back. I've had enough of it now. I've also had to claim ESA benefits here in the UK and soon if I've been on them for over 13weeks I'll have to go to assesments and things. I just feel so stressed out from it all. I wish I could just get back to work all of this is so stressful rolleyes

Thanks for saying about the mini reaccurance things, I'll bear that in mind everytime it happens.

I just feel so confused why if I exert a little I feel dreadful for the next 4 days afterwards. I can sleep for Britain too :s

I know I'll make a recovery one day, it's just taking so long. I feel like everyone thinks I'm lying. How long does this affect other people I wonder?

      Hey Shabby,

I totally understand, I get it I live in the UK too and the things they are doing to people on benefits is awful - but remember just to focus on your recovery, let other things take care of themselves and do your best not to let it stress you out, hard as that is I know.

I can understand why you are feeling so low and uncertain of the future Shabby, I really can. It's an awful time going through glandular fever, people who haven't experienced it don't understand just how debilitating and life changing it can be.

But please please do keep your mind focussed on the underlying message that you WILL get better, despite all the symptoms of the present time. Be assured that it's normal to go through the phases of sore glands and exhaustion, sometimes for longer than we hope, but your body does get a grip of this eventually and nullifying it and you will most definitely get back to good health then - keep your mind and spirit focussed on recovery Shabby, ask God to help I believe He was the one who made my recovery happen when I was at my lowest.

And don't worry about people not understanding. It's normal, most people don't get it or think if you look alright then you should be alright. If only that were the case! Don't let them worry you Shabby. Hang in there and remember there IS hope today - take it from someone who also thought life would never be the same again, but I was amazed at the level of recovery I was able to make given time (thanks to God).

Take care and thinking of you

HI craig, thank you so much for all your support, sorry for being late I've been pretty busy and my cellphone decided to leave me in the darkness too lol too many bad things all together!!!

Anyways, yes I eat healthy as much as possible, I've been taking lysine and vitamin C D3 and prebiotics... I've been able to work with more energy...when I come back home from work I make a warm herbal tea then start doing some yoga poses and stretchings... Believe me, it makes me feel better and it releases all my stress and anxiety.... I still have a white coated tongue, don't know why...

I hope you're doing good too!!!

      Hey Nicky,

Thanks for the message and it definitely sounds like you're doing all the right things. Well done you on taking action with vitamins and yoga and stretches and everything - it's great to hear. That's the important thing finding a positive routine and good things that help with your stress and anxiety and recovery, so keep it up and I know and still fully believe you will get there my friend! Worth asking the doc about the white coated tongue, but if you're feeling better then that's a positive sign and it may just be something that will fade in its own time.

Take care and thinking of you, hang in there and remember all the remnants of the virus and symptoms will disappear fully in time! I'm doing not too bad thanks to God's help!

      HI craig,

I hope you're doing good, as for me, I'm doing okayish, just like what you said, a few okay days and then a noish day..

But it's getting better even though so slowly, I've two to 3 tender lymphs in the back and lateral part of my neck on the left side! I've had some gi issues too, when I find enough time I'll go visit my doctor but I know that I will probably annoy her lol last time she said it's weird it should go away maximum after a month... Unfortunately the majority of the practitioners have no clue.

I've been feeling dizzy and fatigue sometimes too but never like the very first 10 weeks!!

      Take care!!!

      Hey Niky,

Yes it's so frustrating the ups and downs, the good days and then doing more and then feeling like you pay the price for it by feeling rubbish again! Just wish it was easier!

The tender lymph nodes definitely are quite unpleasant, remember they will go away though and it's essentially your immune system responding and working if you like when they are sore I think.

You're right so many practitioners don't have a clue or really understand, they write you off after a while and don't get it!! Thinking about you and remember you definitely will get through this and recovery, I absolutely believe that Niky, hang in there, this will pass.

Take care and better times ahead

      HI craig,

Thanks again for all those nice words! I believe in you and I'm sure that sooner or later I will be fine!

      I'll keep you updated!

      Thanks again!

      Hey Niky,

Yes please do keep me updated, really want to see you making progress and feeling better. Remember 4 months in it's still pretty normal to be feeling like progress is minimal, but that doesn't mean to say you're far away from recovery either, the next few months should see some improvements for sure and I definitely believe by the summer or certainly later in the year you will be feeling much like yourself again.

Well important thing is to believe in God's words not mine Niky but I really strongly believe you will get better, no doubt about that in my mind whatsoever. Thinking of you and just hoping today can be a good one for you.

Take care and thanks for the kind words too!

Hi everyone, I think I've had a major relapse or something. I feel like I was on the first day of this virus.  Ugh. I'm also now suffering from a little hairloss and I've developed eczema on my face (I've never had it before). I'm eating healthy, taking supplements and maybe I'll have to take it easy for a bit longer.

I get so exhausted at times it physically hurts really bad.

      Hi Shabby,

So sorry to hear that, it may be a relapse or some other kind of small infection or virus, maybe worth getting checked out by the doctor anyway. Yes do take it easy Shabby, try not to worry I know it's been such a stressful and traumatic time for you, just hoping and still fully believing in a full recover for you - there IS hope and you WILL feel better, just hoping it will come quickly for you.

Take care and thinking of you

Hi Craig, I want to see a doctor but I don't want to see the one I have been seeing, she shouts at me and says 'what do you expect us to do' and things like that.

I've been taking it easy the last few days. If I wake up around 9am and have slept all night, I find that if I don't sit and lie down in bed that by 6pm I'm exhausted. I find that after 7pm aftering eating dinner that I need to go lie down for a little sleep or just shut my eyes. Then I'm asleep by 12am. Today I slept until 2pm so I'm awake a little longer.

The weird thing is I get like a weird head, like its full of cottonwool and Ican't think. I feel like I'm about to have a seizure or something:s

Hi Nicky, how are you feeling now? How long have you had GF for now? I think I've had it around 14weeks now. I had a really good spell of feeling ok, but I feel terrible this last week. Im not sure if its because I didn't sleep all night one night and had to go out the next day rolleyes

      Hi Shabby,

I understand it's so hard to find a good doctor, I struggle with that too and I know so many do. Sometimes they can be so lacking in people skills and compassion, and I think those who don't have those skills as well as the medical knowledge are not good doctors.

Yes I understand too about the exhaustion, if possible even try and take a nap for an hour or two during the day, if that's not possible take a nap whenever you can fit it into your routine. I still take a nap after work around 6pm too so I think it's perfectly normal! Don't worry Shabby, this is the worst phase you're going through right now and you won't have to experience another 3 months like this - it might still take a bit of time but you will definitely get better from here on in I believe. Take heed of Nicky's words good advice!!

      HI shabby,

I've been sick since the 2ND week of November.... 15 weeks if I'm not wrong!

I'm doing a bit better, can't exercise or anything tho, pretty weak and forceless!

you know, mono has a sinusoidal going, it comes up and goes down, all you can do is to supply your body with vits, prebiotics and herbs ...

Though you need to eat fresh veggies too, cruciferous are the best, broccoli cauliflower kale and etc, eat 2 3 cloves of raw garlic, and do not forget the coconut oil!

I hope you feel better soon, don't forget to go walking even for a few minutes!

      Hey craig,

Dropping by to say hi and ask how you doing!

I'm doing OK, I got more good days nowadays and feeling likely I'm getting my forces back even though I still don't feel like I'm perfectly over this virus.... My throat never gave me issues but it's been 3 months since I've this itchy feeling in my throat... My eyes are itchy too sometimes and they burn... Sometimes I get a mild fever that goes away after a few hours....

What a pain in the *** this virus I'm so overwhelmed.

Good to hear from you and it's good to hear that you are feeling some progress, sorry to hear you're still struggling with a few elements just want you to know that can be perfectly normal and everything will disappear and settle down in time - I truly believe that for you so don't want you to worry at all!!

Hang in there and let me know how things are going.
